As the weather turns chilly, I keep craving something hot and soupy. Picking a restaurant to take the kids to can be tricky, so on a day I was looking for something easy and unfussy, I headed to Hanchon Seolleongtang near Kkachiul Station. There's a mountain right by the restaurant, so the air felt clean and the neighborhood was quiet — a comfortable first impression.

How to get to Hanchon Seolleongtang Kkachiul Station Branch, and parking

Hanchon Seolleongtang Kkachiul Station Branch is on the 2nd floor at 37 Kkachi-ro 74beon-gil, Ojeong-gu, Bucheon, not far from Kkachiul Station. There's parking available too, so getting there by car wasn't a hassle at all.

Since the neighborhood is right by a mountain, the air felt clean, and walking up to the restaurant felt a bit like a stroll.

Before we even went inside, something out front caught my kid's eye. There's an arcade machine and a rabbit feeding corner set up in front of the restaurant.

My kid was so fascinated by feeding the rabbit that they wouldn't leave the spot for a while, and stopped by again for one more round of feeding on the way out after the meal. It felt like we came for a meal and got a bonus playground for the kid too — if you're visiting with children, don't miss this corner. ❤️

Inside Hanchon Seolleongtang Kkachiul Station Branch, the tables are spaced generously, and you order from a kiosk at the table. Sitting with my kid never felt cramped.

Stepping inside, the neatly arranged tables caught my eye first. It seemed like a spot that gets a lot of families, with generous seating gaps, so sitting with my kid felt relaxed rather than tight.

Ordering is done through the table kiosk, and the menu photos were displayed large, which made it kind of fun to pick out what to eat together with my kid.

That day we ordered Tteokguk Seolleongtang (rice cake soup with seolleongtang) for 12,000 won, Kids' Seolleongtang for 7,000 won, Spicy Seolleongtang for 13,000 won, and small Galbi Mandu (rib dumplings) for 6,000 won. I liked that there's a separate kids' seolleongtang made mild and non-spicy for children. The prices were reasonable for a seolleongtang specialty restaurant, too, so feeding the whole family wasn't a big financial burden.

Side dishes and free rice and scallion refills

The side dishes were kkakdugi (cubed radish kimchi) and napa cabbage kimchi, both mild and clean-tasting, which went nicely with the seolleongtang broth. My kid even rinsed a few pieces of kimchi lightly in water and ate them — since it wasn't too salty, it wasn't off-putting to a kid's palate either.

How the tteokguk, kids' and spicy seolleongtang tasted

Starting with the Tteokguk Seolleongtang — it arrived with a heap of rice cakes piled on top of the milky broth. Taking a spoonful, the broth was, despite its milky color, surprisingly mild and clean, without being greasy, so I kept going back for more~~

The rice cakes were chewy and well cooked, and slurping them down with the broth left me feeling satisfyingly full. It was an easy bowl to finish in one go.

The Kids' Seolleongtang came in a smaller size right for a child, and the broth was clearly milder and non-spicy. The meat was also cut into easy-to-chew pieces, and my kid mixed rice right into the broth and cleaned out the whole bowl, haha.

My kid usually doesn't go for soup dishes, so I was genuinely surprised watching the spoon keep moving that day. Good good.

The Spicy Seolleongtang lived up to its name, with a fiery broth as the highlight. The base is the same as regular seolleongtang, but with red chili powder added, the broth turns spicy and punchy.

One spoonful was spicy enough to bring a light sweat to my forehead, but that just made me want more, so I kept spooning up the broth. If you like spicy food, I'd recommend this over the regular seolleongtang.

Galbi mandu (short rib dumplings), small at 6,000 won

The galbi mandu (rib dumplings) were cooked moist, and the texture hit first with each bite. Opening one up, the filling was packed with minced short rib meat, juicy enough that it went well with the dumpling skin when chewed together.

It's a great side to alternate with the soup dishes, so my chopsticks kept drifting back to the galbi mandu naturally.

Instant coffee after the meal is basically the unwritten rule, right? Haha. If you're looking for a seolleongtang restaurant that's easy on the wallet for a family meal, I'd recommend Hanchon Seolleongtang.

Especially having a separate kids' seolleongtang, plus the arcade machine and rabbit feeding corner out front, meant a lot of kid-friendly touches — as a parent, that was a welcome bonus. The mountain nearby keeps the air clean, and stepping out for a little stroll after the meal wasn't bad either :)
