I visited Gang Galbitang, a galbitang (short rib soup) spot near Seomyeon in Busan known for its thick, sturdy rib bones and a clean, deep broth. As a proper local favorite, even the side dishes here were delicious.

Parking at Blue Parking Lot (399-8 Bujeon-dong, Busanjin-gu), a minute's walk from the restaurant, gets you 30 minutes of parking support when you spend over ₩20,000 (one car per table).

Inside Gang Galbitang Seomyeon: bar tables and the self-bar

Inside there are bar-table seats for solo and two-person diners, plus tables for groups. The space is cozy, so it's better suited to small gatherings of about 8 than large parties — a solid Seomyeon restaurant for that.

Gang Galbitang has a self-bar where you can help yourself to extra water and side dishes.

After the meal you can also grab an iced coffee for dessert — they even have an ice machine set up!!

What we ordered at Gang Galbitang Seomyeon and what it cost

There are several galbitang-related menu items — boiled beef shank for ₩28,000, galbi noodles for ₩13,500, and gang galbitang for ₩14,000. I ordered galbi noodles and gang galbitang, added jungmyeon-somyeon noodles, and also ordered an extra bowl of rice.

You order at a kiosk, but when older guests come in, the staff takes orders at the counter too. Galbitang is a dish older diners especially love, and a lot of them struggle with kiosks, so it was nice to see counter ordering still available.

And since we came with a baby, they even set us up with baby dishes.

How were the galbitang broth and the rib bones?

Lots of people make a habit of eating galbitang — fighting heat with heat in summer, or warming up the body in winter — and I'm one of them. Galbitang is total soul food for me... and since every Korean knows exactly what galbitang should taste like, the bar for a good galbitang restaurant is pretty high.

So my expectations were already high before visiting Gang Galbitang, hearing it was a true local favorite near Seomyeon — and I got it, I understood why it's beloved. The savory broth, full of rib aroma, passed the test right away.

The galbitang comes in a ttukbaegi (stone pot), so you can eat it piping hot down to the last spoonful. It's plated neatly as a single serving too, which would make it great for a lunch gathering. Using the tongs and scissors provided, I pulled the meat off the ribs and was amazed at how tender it was.

And the ribs were seriously generous — honestly, they could've called it Extra Gang Galbitang instead of just Gang Galbitang. The meat was braised so tenderly that it slipped right off the bone?! Imagine how it melts in your mouth once it's in there — it just melts, melts~

Dipping it into the sauce that came alongside cut through any heaviness in the meat nicely. And the side dishes served with it paired really well with galbitang too — I especially rarely see chosukjam (Chinese artichoke) in regular restaurants, so having it here was a real sign of a place that knows its food!!

Eating a piece of that well-pulled meat together with the noodles had its own charm, different from rice — though rice is still my top pick.

Taking a bite of the well-cooked noodles in that hot broth, the meat stock had soaked in so well it was delicious. Honestly, even just the noodles alone felt like they were doing my body good.

After the hearty meat and thin noodles, mixing in rice at the end felt like the ultimate nourishing meal. Both the gang galbitang and the galbi noodles were excellent, each in its own way.

Is Gang Galbitang Seomyeon worth a visit with a baby?

If you're looking for a great gukbap (soup with rice) spot near Seomyeon, I'd recommend Gang Galbitang — the generously piled sturdy ribs, the standout galbi noodles, and side dishes including chosukjam all came together so well. If you want a heartfelt meal near Seomyeon, Gang Galbitang is the one to try.
