Where is Omokgyo Gopchang Mokdong Main Branch, and what are its hours?

Omokgyo Gopchang Mokdong Main Branch is a beef intestine restaurant just 223m — under 5 minutes on foot — from Exit 1 of Omokgyo Station. It's open 16:00–22:40, with last order at 22:00.

If you're trying to figure out where to have a Mokdong dinner, I went straight to Omokgyo Gopchang Mokdong Main Branch, under 5 minutes' walk from Omokgyo Station. A perfect location near the station for a group dinner!

Open-air-style seating at Omokgyo Gopchang

Group seating for company dinners: open-air tables and indoor rooms

Omokgyo Gopchang Mokdong Main Branch is slightly connected to the outside, so it has an open-air feel and a nice sense of openness. Further inside there are well-arranged group tables too, making it perfect for company dinners or gatherings.

There was a distinctive piece of decor that caught my eye — garlic! You might wonder why on earth there's garlic in a gopchang restaurant. The answer: whole-clove garlic gopchang. They say they use whole garlic sourced directly from garlic farms in Seosan. A combination of gopchang (beef intestine) and Seosan six-clove garlic, grown in fertile local soil and known for its outstanding flavor and aroma — how could that not be delicious?

Omokgyo Gopchang menu and how to eat the gopchang

The menu even tells you how to eat it right. I quickly went through the recommended way to eat the garlic gopchang and ox gopchang.

  • Garlic gopchang → scallion kimchi and oil-salt dip: dip the garlic gopchang in the oil-salt sauce and take a bite with the scallion kimchi grilled together on the gopchang plate
  • Ox gopchang → scallion kimchi and spicy special sauce: sizzle the scallion kimchi together, then take a bite with the spicy special sauce

Since it was during a review event, we got a serving of Omokgyo cheese fried rice for free.

Included side dishes: tuna salad and sundubu-jjigae

Side dish salad with tuna

It's a salad, but it has tuna in it, so it has some chew to it and was a side dish my hand kept reaching for.

Sundubu-jjigae (soft tofu stew) is included in the basic table setting. It's the kind of spread that practically calls for a drink — satisfying whether you're a soju person or a beer person.

Direct-fire searing, the fire show and refillable scallion kimchi

Direct-fire pre-grilling plus a fire show! They put the beef gopchang, already pre-grilled over direct fire, onto the grill plate and showed us a fire show where the flames shot right up. I think that's their secret for chasing off any gamy smell one more time. It's fun to watch too, so it'd be perfect for a group dinner!

Flames rising during the gopchang fire show

After the fire show, they finished cooking the gopchang on the grill plate. They walked us through everything from the fire show to the menu explanation, and were very kind about it.

They made room and put the scallion kimchi on the grill too. The house-made scallion kimchi is the real kick of Omokgyo Gopchang!

Garlic gopchang vs ox gopchang: how the two taste different

Let's start with the yeomtong (beef heart) — fresh and chewy.

Both the garlic gopchang and the ox gopchang had plenty of gop (fat/intestinal lining) and were delicious, so I'd recommend both. The garlic gopchang has whole cloves of garlic inside, but it's not the crunchy texture of raw garlic.

As the garlic cooks thoroughly on the grill, its savory umami adds to the gopchang's characteristic nuttiness — a taste with the aroma and gentle sweetness of garlic layered lightly on top. Absolutely no gamy smell, and with the smoky char and garlic aroma coming together, it was the kind of flavor that kept my hand reaching for more.

The ox gopchang was richer than the garlic gopchang, with its distinctive gop aroma coming through more, giving it a deeper nuttiness. We didn't notice any gamy smell in either.

Wrapping it in scallion kimchi is genuinely a special treat, so we got a refill of the scallion kimchi.

Finishing with 7,000-won dongchimi noodles and Omokgyo fried rice

The Omokgyo dongchimi noodles at 7,000 won had just the right seasoning and were perfect for cleansing the palate — highly recommend the pairing! After eating hot gopchang, knocking back that broth felt like it settled everything down inside.

They say a true Korean's dessert is carbs. We finished up with Omokgyo fried rice.

We didn't add cheese, but the seasoning was a touch spicy, so I think adding cheese would make it even better. Adding the cheese is highly recommended!

Why Omokgyo Gopchang works for a company dinner in Mokdong

If you're looking for a Mokdong dinner spot, how about Omokgyo Gopchang with its garlic gopchang? A lot of people have tried regular gopchang, but garlic gopchang isn't something every gopchang restaurant sells, so it's honestly hard to come by. The thing is, Omokgyo Gopchang in Mokdong actually has garlic gopchang made with six-clove garlic! Especially since the garlic gopchang comes in limited quantities, it'd be a shame not to try it. Grilling the house-made scallion kimchi with it makes it even more of a treat.

The assorted platter, where you can try several different cuts, looked popular too, so next time I'm going to try the assorted set myself.
