Where is Omokgyo Gopchang Mokdong Main Branch, and what are its hours?

Omokgyo Gopchang Mokdong Main Branch sits on the 1st floor at 226-13 Mokdongdong-ro, Yangcheon-gu, Seoul, about a 3-minute walk from Omokgyo Station. Hours are Mon-Thu 16:00-22:40, Fri 15:00-23:00, and Sat-Sun 12:10-22:40, with last order around 22:00. There's no dedicated parking lot, so nearby public parking is recommended.

I was hunting for a good gopchang (grilled beef intestine) spot near Omokgyo and ended up at Omokgyo Gopchang Mokdong Main Branch. It's close to Omokgyo Station, so getting there by public transit was easy, and apparently they've been keeping the same recipe for 30 years.

Walking in, the inside was bigger and cleaner than I expected, and since it was dinnertime, plenty of people were already eating. Guess that's what happens when you've been a beloved gopchang spot in Omokgyo for this long haha

Side dishes at Omokgyo Gopchang: house-made green onion kimchi
Omokgyo Gopchang's basic banchan (side dish) spread was packed with dishes that go well with gopchang. Here comes the basic table setting!

What really caught my eye was the green onion kimchi! It's made and aged in-house, and while it's tasty on its own, it's even better grilled together with the gopchang fat.
This sundubu-jjigae (soft tofu stew) was also super savory and delicious haha

Omokgyo Gopchang menu and the 100-won golbimmyeon noodles
Omokgyo Gopchang's menu had a good variety — garlic gopchang, ox gopchang, mixed gopchang, plus daechang (large intestine) and makchang (rectum).

They say Omokgyo Gopchang sources domestic beef and Hanwoo (Korean native beef) slaughtered the same day, then trims and pre-cooks it in-house.

We drove so we skipped the soju, but honestly the gopchang made me crave a shot for the first time in a while haha. If you order both a grilled dish and a hot pot, they also sell golbimmyeon (mixed cold noodles) for just 100 won!

Let's find out how to eat gopchang the right way

What does the 28,900-won traditional handmade garlic gopchang taste like?
The traditional handmade garlic gopchang is 28,900 won. It's Omokgyo Gopchang's most famous menu item — each piece of gopchang is stuffed with whole cloves of Seosan yukjok garlic (a variety known for its six-clove bulbs), and it's only sold in a limited quantity each day. They've apparently sold over 150,000 servings total, so if it's your first visit, this is a must-try haha

Here comes our gopchang! It arrives pre-cooked, so it only needed a bit more grilling before we could dig in.
And they give you a fire show like this

You can tell just by looking how packed with fat it is haha. I started with the garlic gopchang I'd been curious about,
Oh wait, before that you have to eat the yeomtong (beef heart) first haha. Dip the yeomtong in chives and sesame oil sauce!
Now, finally time for the garlic gopchang! With whole garlic cloves stuffed inside, biting into it released both the nutty flavor of the gopchang and the aroma of garlic at once. The garlic cut through the richness of the gopchang really well — the combination was better than I expected! The gopchang itself had no off smell, was chewy yet tender, and was packed with fat inside, which was very satisfying.
And that green onion kimchi that had been grilling away this whole time! It was seriously a standout. Green onion kimchi cooked in gopchang fat cuts through the richness perfectly when eaten with the gopchang — one bite of gopchang, one bite of kimchi, and I just kept going haha.

Bibim guksu, the cold noodles to eat with gopchang
Eating gopchang for a while, you start to feel the richness build up haha. That's exactly when bibim guksu (spicy mixed noodles) comes in handy, so we ordered that too! The sauce was sweet, tangy and spicy, and it paired really well with the nutty gopchang.

One bite of gopchang, one bite of bibim guksu, and your palate feels completely refreshed! It was a great in-between dish for when eating gopchang alone starts to feel too rich. If you're someone who always orders naengmyeon (cold noodles) or noodles with your meat, I'd recommend getting the bibim guksu alongside it!

Couldn't resist (?) and ordered more gopchang lol. We're serious about our gopchang..

That satisfied face.. hehe

Ox gopchang for 27,900 won and the verdict on Omokgyo Gopchang
The golden ox gopchang is 27,900 won. The basic gopchang here is great too (whispering)
Turns out Omokgyo Gopchang has even been featured on TV before, and after visiting in person, I could see why it's been beloved for so long. Above all, the garlic gopchang stuffed with whole garlic cloves — something you rarely see at a regular gopchang place — really stuck with me, and the combination with the house-made green onion kimchi was excellent!

On the way out after finishing our meal, there was even Febreze available to get rid of any gopchang smell that had soaked into our clothes haha. Smell is always a concern at gopchang restaurants, so I appreciated that they thought of a small detail like this. There was also an instant photo booth in the store, so we got to take a souvenir photo after eating 📸

Close to Omokgyo Station for easy access, and clean inside — today's find seems like a solid spot for a date, a gathering with friends, or a work dinner in Mokdong! If you love gopchang, I'd definitely recommend trying the garlic gopchang haha.
