Group BBQ dinner with unlimited dongdongju in Gojan-dong, Ansan

In short

Gogit-ri 88beonji Ansan Gojan Branch is a charcoal-pre-grilled pork restaurant at the entrance of the outdoor tented dining alley in Gojan-dong, Ansan. On a Saturday evening the writer ordered the 500g assorted platter A and doenjang sul-bap (soybean paste soup rice), plus unlimited dongdongju (Korean rice wine) that comes with the set menu, and checked out the terrace and outdoor tent seating. With room for about 40 people inside alone, it looks like a solid spot for group work dinners in Gojan-dong.

Gojan-dong dining alley set up with outdoor tents on a Saturday evening

We visited around 6 pm on a Saturday, and by evening the whole alley fills up with outdoor tents and gets pretty lively. If you're driving, you get 2 hours free parking at Deoksan Parking Tower, so keep that in mind 👍

The place and vibe — 40 seats inside, a terrace, and outdoor tent seating

Once inside, the place was bigger than I expected. The main hall alone seats about 40 people, and the tables are roomy enough that it didn't feel crowded.

Storage space inside chairs for coats and bags

There's storage space inside the chairs where you can tuck away coats or bags, which made for a more comfortable meal.

Terrace seating with four-person tables

There's also a separate terrace area. About 6 four-person tables!

With this much seating, the place looks big enough to handle a large group work dinner or gathering.

Outdoor tent seating with plastic chairs

And outside, there's outdoor tent seating too! Plastic chairs and all — exactly the classic outdoor tent vibe haha

Evening atmosphere of the lit-up tented dining alley

Once evening hit, the lights came on and the place got packed with people. This whole alley is lined with outdoor tent seating, so it has a pretty great atmosphere for grilled meat and a drink outside on a nice day 🍻

Menu and prices — assorted platter A, doenjang sul-bap, unlimited dongdongju

We ordered the assorted platter A (500g, ₩45,000), which lets you try several cuts at once — pork belly, pork neck, and skirt meat all on one plate. On top of that, I added doenjang sul-bap (₩7,000), which I can never resist at a Korean BBQ place!

Unlimited dongdongju included with the set menu order

And if you order the set menu, dongdongju is unlimited. You just scoop out as much as you want yourself — can unlimited dongdongju really taste this cold and good? Even I, a total lightweight, had a glass that day haha

The side dishes also come in a good lineup to pair with the meat.

There's a variety of dipping options too — Maldon salt, makjang (spicy fermented soybean paste), salted pollack roe, and soy sauce.

Here, the meat you order gets pre-grilled in the back over charcoal before it comes out.

Pork pre-grilled over charcoal

When the meat is thick, waiting for it to cook can feel like it takes forever, but since it's already pre-grilled, we only needed to finish it off a bit more at the table before digging in.

The flames shooting up were something else 🔥 And since it's pre-grilled over charcoal, you could taste a subtle smoky flavor even while eating.

The pork belly, pork neck, and skirt meat were all on the thicker side overall. No gamey smell at all, and even though it was thick, it wasn't tough — really enjoyable to eat.

Thickly grilled assorted meat

The pork belly had a good balance of fat and lean meat, savory and juicy in the best way.

While we were grilling the pork neck, the owner pointed out the nabisal (butterfly-shaped muscle cut), saying it's the tasty part —

and the texture was slightly chewy with a burst of juice when you bit into it. Loved it 👍

Cross-section of the juicy nabisal cut

My personal pick, though, was the skirt meat! I tend to prefer leaner cuts over fatty ones, and out of the three, the skirt meat was the softest and most to my taste.

Kimchi and skirt meat grilled together on the grill

They also grill kimchi alongside the meat until golden, and simmer up some salted anchovy paste (melchujeot) to eat with the meat. Between the sauces and the grilled kimchi, there's enough variety that you don't get tired of it, even by the end.

Doenjang sul-bap and an extra order of skirt meat

And then, my beloved doenjang sul-bap. Whenever I see it on the menu at a Korean BBQ place, I basically have to order it haha

This place's version has a bit more broth than most, so it doesn't dry up quickly while you're eating — good for scooping up spoonfuls right to the end.

An extra serving of skirt meat aged for 2 weeks

By this point I was definitely full. But I couldn't stop thinking about the skirt meat, so I ended up ordering another single serving haha. They said it's aged for 2 weeks, and you could really tell — the texture was noticeably soft.
