Today I'm writing about a delicious tonkatsu meal I had at Jeongseong Katsu Chuncheon Toegye Branch (정성카츠 춘천퇴계점), in Toegye-dong, Chuncheon. When I'm trying to decide on lunch or dinner in Chuncheon, tonkatsu sometimes pops into my head — and if you're someone who loves that combo of crispy breading and juicy meat, this place is worth a visit.

The atmosphere during mealtime
This time I visited Jeongseong Katsu and ordered the gosuma cheese katsu set and the special pork loin katsu set. Walking in, there were quite a lot of customers already there — makes sense for a popular spot. Since I visited during mealtime, the restaurant was pretty crowded, which told me a lot of people in Toegye-dong, Chuncheon come here for tonkatsu.

Still, the overall vibe of the place was clean and well put together. Rather than feeling too casual or cluttered for a tonkatsu specialty restaurant, it had a comfortable feel that seemed suitable for all kinds of visits — family meals, lunch, or even a date.

How was the gosuma cheese katsu set?
First up was one of my orders, the gosuma cheese katsu set. Tonkatsu with cheese inside always looks delicious just by itself, and the combination of crispy fried pork and cheese worked really well together.
When eating tonkatsu, if the breading is too thick or too oily it can get heavy fast — so for a cheese-filled menu item, the balance between the fried coating and the cheese really matters.

The gosuma cheese katsu let me enjoy both the savory richness of the cheese and the crispy texture of the katsu at the same time, and I ate it happily. If you like cheese tonkatsu, this one is worth trying at least once.
Especially if you're eating out with kids, ordering cheese katsu means they can eat comfortably too, so it seemed like a good option for a family meal.

The special pork loin katsu set: flavor and texture of the meat
The other item I ordered together was the special pork loin katsu set. Personally, when I visit a tonkatsu specialty restaurant, I tend to try the more basic loin katsu, and this special pork loin katsu really let me experience the flavor and texture of the meat itself.

The outside was fried crispy while the meat inside was cooked juicy, so I could enjoy both the crunch of the breading and the tenderness of the meat together.
The breading matters for tonkatsu, but in the end I think the flavor and texture of the meat itself matter most. This special pork loin katsu had a good flavor coming through when you chewed the meat, and I ate it happily.
If you find it a shame to only order one menu item, I'd recommend ordering two different dishes and sharing, like I did. The cheese katsu and loin katsu go in different flavor directions, so eating them together meant I could enjoy a variety of tastes without getting tired of either.

Using Korean pork and award history
Jeongseong Katsu says it uses 100% domestic Korean pork (handon) and makes a principle of starting to cook only after an order comes in. Eating the tonkatsu, I could feel this is a place that takes the combination of crispy breading and juicy meat seriously.
Also, as a tonkatsu franchise, Jeongseong Katsu won the Grand Prize in the Tonkatsu Franchise category at the 2023 KBS N Brand Awards, and ranked first in the Customer Satisfaction Best Review category at the 2025 Korea Summit Brand Awards.
What stood out most to me was how many customers were actually eating there when I visited. When you're looking for a good restaurant, how many customers are in the place is quietly an important indicator. Since I visited during mealtime and it was crowded, I could really feel that a lot of people come here in Toegye-dong, Chuncheon.

Which menu should you pick?
I think Jeongseong Katsu Chuncheon Toegye Branch is a great choice for anyone looking for good food in Toegye-dong, Chuncheon, a tonkatsu restaurant in Chuncheon, or a lunch spot in Chuncheon.
It's a solid option especially if you want to eat tonkatsu in a clean space, or if you're looking for somewhere to eat with family. It's not too far from Namchuncheon Station and it's close to the residential area of Toegye-dong, so it's convenient for people living nearby, and if you drive, the free underground parking is a nice bonus.
This visit I ordered and tried the gosuma cheese katsu set and the special pork loin katsu set. If you like the savory richness of cheese, I'd recommend the gosuma cheese katsu; if you prefer the natural flavor and texture of the meat itself, I'd recommend the special pork loin katsu.

Ordering both together and sharing them let me compare their different appeals side by side, which made the meal even better. If you're craving good tonkatsu in Chuncheon and looking for a place to have lunch or dinner in Toegye-dong, Jeongseong Katsu Chuncheon Toegye Branch is worth a visit.
This was a place where I could properly enjoy crispy tonkatsu and juicy meat for a satisfying meal. I'd recommend it to anyone in Toegye-dong, Chuncheon looking for a spot for a family meal, a date, or lunch :)
