A Paju mandu restaurant after a weekend family outing

My family and I enjoy going for drives every weekend, and this time, after looking around Paju Book City and Heyri Art Valley, we visited Bubyeokjeong Pyeongyang Mandu.

It is close to Paju Premium Outlets, so it was a great place for a meal after shopping. There have been lots of customers every time I have visited, and we had a short wait this time too. But once we had finished our meal, we were satisfied enough that the wait did not feel like a waste at all.

The signature mandu (Korean dumpling) hot pot came with plenty of vegetables and large dumplings. The broth was clean yet deeply flavorful, and every bite of a dumpling released plenty of juices. The wrappers were nicely chewy and the filling was generous, so it was delicious right to the end. I could immediately see why so many people recommend it as a great mandu place in Paju.

At the end, we waited for the sand timer to run down before eating the kalguksu (knife-cut noodles), and they were wonderfully chewy and tasty.

Children’s mandu soup that kids enjoy too

Choosing a menu is always a concern when dining out with a child. The children’s mandu soup here was not overly seasoned, so my child enjoyed it. The dumplings were soft too, and even my picky eater finished almost an entire bowl. That made it even more satisfying as a family dining spot.

What makes freshly handmade mandu special

On one side of the restaurant, you can watch the staff shaping mandu by hand. Seeing the process made the freshness and care behind them feel real. Perhaps that is why the texture and flavor of the dumplings were even better. It was a detail that showed this place’s distinctive appeal.

The free misutgaru (roasted multigrain powder) slushie served after the meal is not to be missed either. Its nutty, refreshing flavor cleansed the palate nicely. It tasted like a childhood memory, so both adults and children loved it. It is a small service, but one that really raises the overall satisfaction.

A meal the whole family enjoyed

After the meal, everyone in the family said, “Let’s come back again next time.” In the end, we packed up mandu to enjoy at home too. They tasted just as good at home, which made us even more satisfied. Having experienced firsthand why it gets so busy every weekend, I definitely wanted to return.
