Weekday snow-ice mango bingsu on a Paju drive: Fruit Forest Paju

In short

Fruit Forest Paju Direct Store is a fresh fruit bingsu (shaved ice dessert) café on Dolgotji-gil in Paju, Gyeonggi. On a weekday afternoon the writer ordered the fresh mango snow-ice bingsu, digging into soft snow ice, sweet fresh mango, and a mango syrup on the side. Open until 9pm with plenty of parking, it makes a great dessert stop after a Seoul-area drive.

When I start craving something sweet these days, it's specifically bingsu (shaved ice dessert) loaded with fruit that I want. This time I went to Fruit Forest, known in Paju for its fresh fruit bingsu. The menu I tried that day was the fresh mango snow-ice bingsu! I already love mango and get mango bingsu fairly often, but this time I wanted to have a really good one, so I made the trip.

To cut to the conclusion first — if you love fresh mango, this is a place you'll genuinely enjoy. I think how well the ice and the mango come together matters a lot in a bingsu, and the combination of soft snow ice with sweet mango here was really great.

A good location and hours for a Paju drive-course dessert

This is the exterior of Fruit Forest, a Paju bingsu spot. There seemed to be a lot of other good restaurants along the way, too. If you're driving out near Seoul, grabbing a meal somewhere good and then stopping by Fruit Forest for bingsu sounds perfect! I'd definitely recommend it as part of a Paju drive course. It's one of the few Paju dessert spots that stays open fairly late. Fruit Forest is open daily from 10:00 to 21:00, with last order at 20:30!

Is parking easy?

The parking lot is quite spacious too — I visited on a weekday so there was plenty of room, but for a place this popular I imagine parking could get tricky on weekends. But honestly, that's how good this place is... I fully admit it, haha! Anyway, let's park with ease and head up to the store.

As soon as I got upstairs, fresh mangoes greeted me. Honestly I'm not great at prepping mango myself, so half the mangoes I try to ripen at home end up wasted, haha. The mangoes you get pre-cut on overseas trips are always so generously sized... anyway, mango someone else has prepped for you just tastes so much better! I was already excited before even eating. The little sign saying they were ripening nicely was also too cute, haha.

Fruit Forest's fresh fruit bingsu menu board

Bingsu prices start from ₩28,000

This is the menu board at Fruit Forest, a Paju bingsu spot. Prices starting from ₩28,000 might make you go 'whoa, that's a bit much for bingsu?' — but that's just because we've gotten used to franchise bingsu prices made with frozen fruit. At a place like Fruit Forest that uses only fresh fruit, the price makes total sense! And having already tried it, I'd rather come here than pay ₩20,000 somewhere random... it's genuinely that good relative to the price. There were so many fruit bingsu options I agonized for a while, but I went with the best-seller, mango! Especially since mangoes welcomed me right when I walked in, haha.

Refrigerated corner displaying melon and other fresh fruit

A fruit display that makes you curious about the melon bingsu too

The other fruits were displayed just as fresh, and it made me want to try every single kind... For the melon, it's not the thick hard-skinned type but a thin-skinned one — honeydew melon, maybe? Either way, that melon is genuinely delicious!!! Now I'm really curious about the melon bingsu too, haha.

Interior with customers even on a weekday

A busy vibe even on a weekday

The interior was quite spacious, but even on a weekday there were enough people that it was a bit hard to take photos; a place this good is probably packed on weekends...! If there had been no seats, I was ready to get it to go and eat it in the car, haha. It's seriously that delicious.

So how does the fresh mango snow-ice bingsu taste?

The fresh mango snow-ice bingsu I ordered arrived! The sauce-like thing on the side is basically mango syrup, and they said you can drizzle it on as you eat. Honestly, it's sweet enough that you don't even need it. But it tastes even better with it...! I genuinely wanted to take it home and eat it straight with a spoon... they even give you a side plate, which was a nice touch.

I only tried the mango bingsu at Fruit Forest, but it was so, so, so good that I'm now convinced the other menu items must be delicious too — a genuinely great Paju restaurant. Summer's about to end, but this is the kind of taste I'll probably be craving even in the dead of winter!
