Sundae gukbap hangover meal with a baby in a sofa seat: Boseung
In short
Boseung Hoegwan Bangi Branch is a 24-hour pork and sundae gukbap (blood sausage soup) restaurant in Bangi-dong, Songpa, Seoul. After a night of drinking, the writer ordered spicy sundae gukbap for ₩12,000, pork jowl gukbap for ₩13,000, and fire-grilled pork for ₩8,000, sharing them with a 17-month-old baby in a sofa seat. The spicy broth was great for a hangover, and the milky pork jowl soup was gentle enough for the baby.

Boseung Hoegwan is one of those places I used to hit for round two with friends — gukbap (Korean soup with rice) and soju after a night out. Let me introduce this 24-hour Bangi-dong favorite properly.

Boseung Hoegwan is THE sundae gukbap spot in Bangi-dong. There was a time my high school best friend and I would stop by for round two, gukbap and soju, shouting that it was our hangover cure. This time, I dropped by with my son Hajun after a while. It's close to Jamsil Seokchon Lake, the Lotte Hotel Sofitel Jamsil, and Lotte Mall.

Parking and getting there
There's parking for a few cars right in front of Boseung Hoegwan Bangi Branch, but since it's near my house, walking is actually the easiest way to get there. Push the stroller along the lake path and you're there in no time.

What does Boseung Hoegwan's broth taste like?
The broth at this Bangi-dong gukbap favorite really has its own character. It's deep and rich, with zero of that pork smell you sometimes get. If you like it spicy and punchy, you'll definitely be coming back to Boseung Hoegwan.

A sofa seat with our 17-month-old
Going to a restaurant with a 17-month-old now means scanning for a sofa seat the moment we walk in. He's graduated from the high chair to a regular chair, but a sofa seat is so much more comfortable when there is one. And of course, native-born Korean Hajun instinctively reaches for the diced radish kimchi the second he spots it.

Spicy sundae gukbap for the hangover
I'd been drinking with my in-laws the night before, so I ordered the spicy gukbap to nurse my hangover. Boseung Hoegwan's spicy, rich broth is genuinely great for that — it snaps you right back to life. You can adjust the spice level, and heat lovers will be into it.

The sundae gukbap comes loaded with lean meat and barely any fat. Unlike the market-style sundae guk (blood sausage soup), this version draws plenty of younger customers too — even the MZ generation crowd eats here.

Pork jowl gukbap shared with the baby
Hajun's dad prefers clear broth, so he ordered the pork jowl gukbap. It's a milky, rich pork broth loaded with perilla powder. The pork jowl was super tender, so even our 17-month-old ate it well. Hajun loved the milky broth, so he shared it with his dad.

I was running on too much alcohol and too little sleep, but the moment I started eating gukbap, I felt my energy come back. Longtime neighbors know I'm a self-confessed gukbap addict. Gukbap is love, every single time.

Fire-grilled pork on the side
These days, when we eat out with the baby, we try to always order some kind of meat on the side. They had fire-grilled pork, so we tried it. It's grilled with that smoky char, and the baby ate it well, and so did we with plain white rice. Fire-grilled meat pairs surprisingly well with gukbap.

Piled on plain rice, Boseung Hoegwan's fire-grilled pork goes down so easily. The portion is about one serving.

Our baby woke up late from a nap for this meal — a wise little eater who takes after his gukbap-addict mom, following along happily today too.

A gukbap spot tourists find too, near the Sofitel
Since the Sofitel hotel is nearby, this restaurant sees plenty of foreign tourists as well. As a chain, Boseung Hoegwan keeps its food quality well managed.

After eating well, we wandered around Seokchon Lake with the baby to help digest. Seokchon Lake seemed busier than before on the weekend. Autumn seems to be arriving, and the leaves are starting to change color. Wishing everyone a happy dining life.♥
