Exterior of Suseong Susan located right by the beach

Located right by the beach next to the Buyoung Apartments in Sinho-dong, Gangseo-gu, 'Suseong Susan' is a place I found while craving a good, cool mulhoe 💙

Open ocean view right in front of Suseong Susan

It's right next to the sea, so you can eat while looking out at an open ocean view. Watching the water, you can even see fish jump right out and splash back down. A raw fish restaurant sitting right beside the sea like this — of course the sashimi is fresh, haha 😆 There's no way it could be bad.

There's a dedicated parking lot right next to the restaurant, so anyone driving can park comfortably 🚗

Inside Suseong Susan: a wide hall that fits groups

Stepping inside, it was bustling with customers. The interior was bigger than I expected, so it's good for family meals as well as group visits!

The inside has a clean, pleasant atmosphere, making it comfortable to eat. Since it specializes in mulhoe and sashimi bibimbap (raw fish rice bowl), a lot of people come in for lunch too. It's a great spot for a clean, satisfying meal 😊

Sign inside Suseong Susan about amberjack season

From November to February is amberjack season, when you can enjoy plump, fatty amberjack, and apparently Suseong Susan only uses top-grade wild amberjack raised without any additives! I came for mulhoe this time, but I'll have to come back in November for the seasonal wild amberjack 😆

Suseong Susan menu and how to order

Tablet ordering device on the table

✔️Ordering is easy with the tablet on the table 📱 The menu is laid out clearly so it's easy to take your time and pick what you want.

📌The menu has clean, satisfying options like mulhoe, sashimi bibimbap, and abalone porridge 😊 You can also choose your sashimi types to taste and add extra sashimi, which is great if you want an even more generous portion.

What comes with the 3-way mulhoe and sashimi bibimbap combos

Full spread of 3-way mulhoe combo and sashimi bibimbap

📍We ordered the 3-way mulhoe combo and the 3-way sashimi bibimbap combo. Once you order, the table fills up like this — and it's not just mulhoe and sashimi bibimbap, a whole abalone sashimi comes out too, making the spread much more generous than I expected 😆💛

Suseong Susan table set with side dishes

The mulhoe and sashimi rice bowl setups are almost identical except for the noodles! With side dishes filling the table too, it's plenty for a satisfying meal. It was the perfect spot for a simple yet filling summer specialty of cool mulhoe and sashimi rice bowl for lunch 💛

The side dishes are all neatly arranged too. Braised fish cake, stir-fried mushrooms, abalone sashimi, acorn jelly, braised soybeans — a nice variety that made the table feel abundant 💛 They were all well-seasoned and tasty, so I found myself picking at them even before the main dishes arrived.

Warm seaweed soup served with the meal

The soup is a warm seaweed soup. It's clean and light, so it paired well with the main dishes!

Why the sashimi arrives separately, like a sashimi set meal

One slightly unusual thing about Suseong Susan is that the sashimi doesn't come mixed into the mulhoe or sashimi rice bowl — it's served separately! It comes as a 3-way sashimi combo, and the portion is quite generous. You can enjoy the sashimi on its own first, then add the leftovers into the mulhoe or rice bowl later, so it felt like enjoying a full sashimi course in a variety of ways 😆

Whole abalone sashimi served on the table
A firm, springy piece of abalone sashimi

The abalone was so fresh that the first bite gave a firm, springy texture that was just perfect. No fishy taste at all — fresh, and the more you chew it, the nuttier it gets. The abalone sashimi was delicious 💛

Tasting the three chewy sashimi types

The sashimi came as three popular types: milchi, halibut, and rockfish. Since it's live fish, the texture overall was firm and chewy, and it was fun tasting each type one by one — the sashimi itself was fresh and clean-tasting 🤤

Icy mulhoe broth and free noodle and broth refills

The mulhoe broth has a sweet-and-sour, savory flavor with a touch of spiciness that really wakes up your appetite 😋 Instead of adding regular ice cubes, they freeze the broth itself into an icy slush, so even as it melts, the flavor doesn't get watered down — you get a burst of coolness that chases the summer heat right away!

Add the noodles and the generous sashimi on top, and the chewy fish with the cool broth make for a true summer specialty ⭐️

And the best part — noodles and broth can both be refilled for free!! 👏 At first I thought the broth portion seemed a bit small, but as the icy slush melted, the broth amount gradually increased. So rather than adding extra right away, I'd recommend eating a bit first and refilling only once you feel like you need more broth.

Not up for cold food? Order the sashimi bibimbap

If you're not a big fan of cold food, ordering the sashimi rice bowl is a great option too. The visual on the sashimi rice bowl is amazing too 💛 Piled high with sashimi and vegetables, it's mouthwatering just to look at.

The seasoning sauce comes on the side, so you can adjust the amount to your taste. Warm rice loaded with chewy sashimi and plenty of vegetables, all mixed together with the sauce — it's a totally different but equally satisfying charm from the mulhoe 💛
