Busan mulhoe restaurant where you pick the sashimi: Suseong Susan
In short
Suseong Susan is a mulhoe (icy raw fish soup) and hoe bibimbap (raw fish rice bowl) restaurant in Sinho-dong, Gangseo, Busan. A 2pm visit to Suseong Susan found every table taken, so there was a short wait before ordering the 3-kind sashimi mulhoe at 20,000 won (large olive flounder, spotted flounder and mullet) and the 2-kind half-and-half mulhoe at 19,000 won, both with the sashimi served on its own plate plus abalone sashimi on the side. With a vegetable-packed icy broth, somyeon noodles and a bowl of rice included, the meal filled two people up without a single sashimi refill.

Where is Suseong Susan in Busan?
Suseong Susan is a mulhoe (raw fish cold soup) specialty restaurant in Sinho-dong, Gangseo, Busan. It's a great stop if you're coming into Busan from Changwon or Geoje!
I'd occasionally seen a banner reading "mulhoe restaurant SS Susan" — turns out this was the place.
The building has "수성수산" (Suseong Susan) written huge on it, so you can spot it from far away haha.

Why this Sinho-dong mulhoe restaurant is full at 2pm
I visited around 2pm thinking it wouldn't be crowded, but no — completely packed. Guess I was the only one who didn't know about this Gangseo, Busan hidden gem.

After a short wait a table opened up, and once seated I looked around — the walls were covered with framed autographs, apparently from celebrities 🙄 must be pretty famous.

Suseong Susan menu and prices: choose your sashimi
True to a mulhoe specialty restaurant, the menu is mainly mulhoe and hoe bibimbap (sashimi rice bowl) — and the fun part is you can pick your sashimi mix 😃
- 🐟 3-kind: large flounder + spotted flounder + Pacific herring
- 🐟 large flounder + spotted flounder, half-and-half
- 🐟 large flounder + Pacific herring, half-and-half
- Or just large flounder only, or just Pacific herring only — like that!

(Aside from the hantae/cuttlefish mulhoe) the priciest option, the 3-kind sashimi mulhoe, is ₩20,000, and the 2-kind half-and-half is ₩19,000! Both come with rice and somyeon included 😊 The hoe bibimbap is also ₩20,000 for 3-kind and ₩19,000 for half-and-half.
There was a banner next to me showing the owner posing with fish caught straight from his boat — that gave me a lot of confidence the sashimi would be super fresh 🥹 Apparently November–December is bangeo (yellowtail) season.

What comes with the mulhoe: side dishes and beef seaweed soup
Finally the mulhoe arrived and wow, I was shocked by the size! It looked like way too much. Would I even be able to finish it all 😅

With side dishes, rice, soup, and today's seafood (abalone) all laid out, it really felt like a proper full spread 👍 I assumed the seaweed soup would naturally be fish-based, but plot twist — it was beef seaweed soup. It was delicious too 😋

Even before adding the sashimi or the rice into the mulhoe, the bowl was already this full 🤤 So much cabbage and vegetables — felt like I ate a week's worth of veggies at Suseong Susan.

Sashimi served on its own plate, not in the broth
This was the first time I've seen a mulhoe restaurant serve the sashimi separately — that says a lot about how confident they are in the quality. And honestly, the color of the sashimi is just different 👍👍👍 (I ordered the 3-kind mulhoe)
He got the 2-kind, half-and-half! Not quite a full custom option, but being able to pick which fish types is a nice touch 😄 (though I honestly don't know my fish types well)

Frozen mulhoe broth with free self-refills
Enough admiring, time to eat. Mix it up~~~ The broth comes frozen, so it slowly melts and turns into liquid as you eat. And this broth is self-refillable too!

They also add in the good-looking sashimi. (Didn't expect it to fall in one by one like this, do-re-mi style, but okay.)
Look how fresh that sashimi is! Seems like they also do daebangeo (large yellowtail) in winter — guess I'll have to come back for that too.

Seafood of the day at Suseong Susan: abalone sashimi
Today's seafood, abalone sashimi, went in too. That chewy abalone texture is just so good 😋 I'm usually not a fan of sea squirt or gaebul in seafood mulhoe, but abalone is amazing. So glad abalone was today's special seafood 😁😁😁

Grabbing a big bite with the sashimi, you can really tell the fish is fresh!! The vegetables stay crunchy too, so the texture combo is amazing 😉

Even without adding extra sashimi, there's already plenty, and mixing all the different types together was great. The broth was also spicy-and-sour enough to be tasty even for someone who's not great with spice 😋😋

Finishing the mulhoe broth with somyeon noodles
Right as I was about to finish, they added somyeon (thin wheat noodles) to round it all off nicely 😁 The noodle portion was just right — enough to enjoy without overdoing it! With the rice already included too, I ended up completely stuffed.

Is Suseong Susan worth a visit? Final verdict
Loaded with vegetables, sashimi so fresh, broth nice and tangy — Suseong Susan really lives up to being a Gangseo, Busan favorite 😁 There's a reason it's always packed. I'll have to visit again before summer ends. Definitely coming back!
