Dongtan Korean restaurant with baby chairs and a salt-free egg roll

In short

Yangpuni Kimchi Jjigae & Samgyeopsal is a Korean pork and stew restaurant in Bansong-dong, Dongtan, Hwaseong, near Gaenari Park and E-mart Dongtan. Visiting at about 2pm on a Saturday with a 15-month-old, the writer ordered the samgyeopsal kimchi-jjim (pork belly braised in kimchi) set for two at 28,000 won and asked for the set's egg roll to be made with no salt and without onion or green onion, which the kitchen did. With a baby chair and baby dishes set out in advance and soju at 1,900 won, Yangpuni works just as well for a meal with a baby as for an evening work dinner.

I was at E-mart Dongtan and got a craving for Korean food, so I searched for good spots nearby and found this place. 😋 The reviews were great, so I went in with high expectations. I visited around 2pm on a Saturday.

What the dining room and self-serve bar are like

The dining room at Yangpuni Kimchi Jjigae & Samgyeopsal had a comfortable amount of space between tables. On one side there's a row of tables separated from the rest, which looked great for group gatherings or work dinners!

The self-serve bar had all the side dishes laid out neatly.

The restroom is inside the restaurant, which I personally love.

A lot of places these days use Chinese kimchi, so I appreciated that this one uses domestic kimchi. No matter how good a kimchi jjigae place is, it bugs me a bit if the kimchi is Chinese — but here it's domestic!!!!! 👍

👶 Is Yangpuni easy to visit with a baby?

I went with my 15-month-old, and Yangpuni Kimchi Jjigae & Samgyeopsal had a baby chair and baby dishes set up before we even sat down. I asked whether the egg roll for the baby would be freshly made or just reheated, and they said they'd roll it fresh as soon as we ordered.

Thick egg roll made without salt

I asked if they could make it without salt, and they said of course, and even asked first, "Should we leave out the onion and green onion too?" That kind of thoughtfulness meant a lot.

Baby chair and baby dishes set up in advance

They also had the baby chair and baby dishes set up in advance, so we could eat comfortably.

Our 15-month-old ate really well too. ❤️

🍳 How did the salt-free egg roll taste?

Even without any seasoning, it was genuinely more delicious than I expected. It was made fresh and warm, so the flavor really came through.

The outside was golden, the inside was fluffy and moist, and it was thick enough to chew softly with a satisfying bite.

It also went really well with the kimchi jjigae.

🍲 Samgyeopsal kimchi-jjim set for two, 28,000 won: what you get

What I ordered was Yangpuni's samgyeopsal kimchi-jjim (pork belly kimchi braise) set for two (₩28,000). The set comes with samgyeopsal kimchi-jjim plus a choice of egg roll, bulgogi, or spicy stir-fried pork.

Full spread of the samgyeopsal kimchi-jjim set for two

The moment the kimchi-jjim arrived, it passed the visual test instantly!!!!! You can eat it right away, but they told us it tastes even better after another boil, and it stayed warm the whole meal.

Pot of samgyeopsal kimchi-jjim simmering

Simmered a long time in same-day vegetable stock with Grade 1 domestic raw pork and domestic kimchi plus a house sauce, the flavor is deep — you can really taste it.

It's not just aggressively spicy — it's pleasantly sharp with a subtle sweet-and-savory balance that keeps you eating. If it had been dinner, soju would've been non-negotiable.

The pork was also cut into big, generous pieces, so both the meaty flavor and the chewy texture were great.

Kimchi-jjim with large chunks of pork

Most restaurants serve plain white rice, but here you get black rice with mixed grains. It felt like they cared about health too, which I liked.

Bowl of black rice with mixed grains

They also give you a separate big bowl for mixing rice — add broth, meat, kimchi, and even gim (dried seaweed) and mix it all together... and it's seriously a whole bowl of rice gone in seconds. 🤤

I've been trying to cut down on white rice lately, but that project failed hard this day...

Rice mixed with broth, kimchi, and gim

The broth and kimchi were so good the rice just kept going in. The portion was also huge — even for two people, you could probably add extra noodles and easily feed three.

Generous leftover kimchi-jjim and side dishes

With pork belly, tofu, egg roll, and seasoned black beans, there's plenty of protein too, so it made me think it'd be fine even as a cheat-day meal out. (Rationalizing hard right now...)

Full table setting of the kimchi-jjim meal

I found myself wanting to try the samgyeopsal (pork belly) next time — grilling it with kimchi this good sounds amazing. After tasting the kimchi, I'm pretty sure it pairs perfectly with pork belly, so I've already decided what I'm ordering next time haha.

🍻 Why Yangpuni suits a group dinner with 1,900-won soju

Soju is ₩1,900 at Yangpuni Kimchi Jjigae & Samgyeopsal, and now I get why it's packed in the evenings. Given how prices are these days, that's a genuinely surprising deal. With kimchi jjigae, duruchigi, and samgyeopsal all on the menu, it's a Korean restaurant that pretty much any Korean would enjoy without complaint.
