This time, eight of us—five adults, two elementary schoolers, and one young child—visited Gatjidong Noeun Branch in Daejeon. Freshest dish of the meal: tomato green tangerine salmon udon with mini sake-don set, 19,800 won

The freshest dish that day was the tomato green tangerine salmon udon with mini sake-don (salmon rice bowl) set at ₩19,800. The tartness of tomato and green tangerine paired with salmon gave the udon a different charm from a typical hot-broth udon, and the mini sake-don came alongside it, letting us enjoy salmon two ways—on noodles and on rice.

Spicy gyudon 10,800 won or plain gyudon 9,800 won, when spice tolerance splits

We ordered the spicy (辛카라이) gyudon twice, at ₩10,800 per serving. It's a beef rice bowl with a special spicy sauce added, giving it a bolder, sharper flavor than the regular gyudon. The two spice-lovers in our group both chose it, while those who wanted something milder went for the regular gyudon at ₩9,800—sweet, salty beef over rice that was easy to eat comfortably.

Gatjidong mixed pork cutlets, 15,800 won: pork, cheese and chicken katsu on one plate

The Gatjidong mixed pork cutlets came to ₩15,800. It let us try regular pork cutlet, cheese pork cutlet, and chicken katsu all on one plate—perfect for when it's hard to pick just one. The crispy coating combined with different meats and cheese made it easy to share with the kids, alternating bites.

Salmon-loaded salad, 13,800 won, the easiest dish to share

We ordered the salmon-heavy salad for ₩13,800. Plenty of soft raw salmon sat on top of fresh vegetables, playing a refreshing role among all the rice bowls and pork cutlets. It's a good add-on when a group wants to share vegetables and salmon together rather than only ordering mains.

Sunchang soy sauce shrimp jang rice bowl, 13,800 won, mixed with the egg yolk

The Sunchang soy sauce shrimp jang rice bowl was ₩13,800. Plump shrimp soaked in the deep umami of Sunchang soy sauce blended naturally into the rice. Mixing the salty shrimp jang with the rich egg yolk made for a satisfying bowl—a good option for anyone wanting a rice dish different from the pork cutlet or gyudon.

Free kids' furikake rice and the self-service bar at Gatjidong Noeun Branch

They prepared a free kids' furikake rice bowl for our youngest child. Even a kid who has trouble with strong flavors or spicy dishes could eat comfortably, and services like kids' seaweed and tableware were also offered, which was especially practical for families with young children. The restaurant also has a self-service area for rice, soup, and broth, which was convenient with such a large group.

The seven paid dishes we ordered that day came to a total of ₩94,600. With eight of us each choosing what we wanted, sharing the salad, and getting the kids' rice covered too, it was a satisfying setup for a family meal with a wide range of ages and tastes.
