Goryeo Mulchong Kalguksu during our visit

I went to Goryeo Mulchong Kalguksu, a kalguksu spot in Vision-dong, Pyeongtaek! I was running errands in Pyeongtaek and stopped here for a meal haha — the food was great, but honestly the owner and all the staff were SO friendly that it made the whole meal that much better.

Where is Goryeo Mulchong Kalguksu, and what are the hours and parking?

Goryeo Mulchong Kalguksu, a kalguksu spot in Vision-dong, Pyeongtaek, is located right across from the NC Outlet in Vision-dong! It's open from 10:30 AM to 9:00 PM :) There is a break time, so keep that in mind — though there's no break time on weekends~~

There's an entrance right next to the restaurant that leads up to the parking lot! The entrance and exit share the same street, so you have to drive slowly and carefully! Still, having a parking lot in the building at all is a huge plus!!! Thanks to that I parked easily and happily went in for kalguksu!

Lunchtime at Goryeo Mulchong Kalguksu: a 43,000-won order for two

The Goryeo Mulchong Kalguksu space in Vision-dong, Pyeongtaek was huge! I visited during the busy lunch rush, and sure enough there were tons of customers! There was even an inner room haha. I sat in the big open hall and enjoyed my meal!!! There was a tablet at the table, so I ordered right away.

  • My husband: goldong noodles with perilla oil, ₩12,000
  • Me: Goryeo Mulchong Kalguksu, ₩12,000
  • Pear-leaf medicinal herb bossam, ₩19,000
  • Total order: ₩43,000!!

After ordering at Goryeo Mulchong Kalguksu in Vision-dong, Pyeongtaek, I looked around the restaurant a bit~and this place is really serious about their food! The owner takes pride in building the most complete meal possible from the most honest ingredients :) They say the owner personally taste-tests every menu item every morning~small shifts in temperature and humidity affect how fresh and flavorful ingredients are~~ Once the hot weather starts, they apply even stricter food safety standards for ingredient management!! Tasting the broth, checking the bossam for any off smell, checking the moisture in the dumpling filling — they really seem to run this place with a lot of care!! A trustworthy bowl of Goryeo Mulchong Kalguksu!!

There's a drink station for dessert! And at Goryeo Mulchong Kalguksu in Vision-dong, Pyeongtaek, there was even sikhye (sweet rice punch) in the fridge by the entrance.

How to eat mulchong kalguksu: the 5-minute hourglass

There's a whole guide here on how to enjoy the mulchong kalguksu properly!! I read it beforehand haha — since you're eating it anyway, might as well eat it right~ At Goryeo Mulchong Kalguksu in Vision-dong, Pyeongtaek, the noodles need to boil for exactly 5 minutes, so each table has an hourglass to help time it!! Great idea! Haha

After the kalguksu, fried rice for dessert is a must!! They give you one bowl as standard, and you can get free refills if you want more haha.

Bossam (boiled pork wraps)!! Haha they said they honestly boil grade-1 Korean pork belly just twice a day, at 10 AM and 4 PM! They add Pyeongtaek's famous "pear leaf powder" too, which completely eliminates any off smell haha. When I tried it, there really was zero off smell, and the fatty part was so chewy and delicious.

The bossam is kept warm on a tealight warmer system so you can enjoy it hot down to the very last piece! You can pair it with salted shrimp, anchovy sauce, and radish kimchi!! How could that combination not be delicious?

Goldong noodles with perilla oil, 12,000 won: eating them wrapped in gamtae seaweed

Goryeo Mulchong Kalguksu in Vision-dong, Pyeongtaek — goldong noodles with perilla oil, ₩12,000

This was my first time seeing perilla oil noodles that look like this haha. The staff explained in detail how to eat it :) The combination of nutty perilla oil, ground perilla seeds, chwinamul (aster greens), and cold noodles was really great.

As instructed, we set the gamtae (dried seaweed sheets) aside on a separate plate, cut the noodles with scissors, and mixed them well with the perilla oil and broth! They even give you disposable plastic gloves, so mixing is easy haha. After mixing well, wrapping it in gamtae really maximizes the perilla oil aroma :)

Goryeo mulchong kalguksu, 12,000 won: single servings available too

Goryeo Mulchong Kalguksu in Vision-dong, Pyeongtaek — Goryeo Mulchong Kalguksu, ₩12,000

My kalguksu order arrived :) It's the perfect dish for a rainy day haha. I wondered whether it might only be available for two people or more, but you can actually order a single serving too!!

The visual is really good haha — this Goryeo Mulchong Kalguksu has domestic Gochang dongjuk clams and Tongyeong mussels in it! You all know both dongjuk and mussels are good for you, right? I love shellfish so I was really happy to eat a lot of it lol.

After picking out all the shellfish from the Goryeo Mulchong Kalguksu in Vision-dong, Pyeongtaek haha, I dropped in the noodles! The noodles here are handmade in-house~apparently you're supposed to enjoy the springy texture of the shellfish first before adding the noodles! And boiling for exactly 5 minutes seems to be when it tastes best.

I liked that the seasoning wasn't too strong! If you feel it's too plain, you can add salt, pepper, chili paste, and more from the self-serve bar!! I added some napa cabbage kimchi from Goryeo Mulchong Kalguksu in Vision-dong, Pyeongtaek, and it was so good!!!

After enjoying the kalguksu, once I was getting pleasantly full, I finished up with the four-seasons fried rice! You can't skip fried rice for dessert haha. The rice here is special too! They use top-grade Super Ohnyoung Koshihikari rice to cook it! They really seem serious about every single ingredient! I cleaned the bowl completely!!

This sikhye was given to me through a review event. It's made with Pyeongtaek's specialty Koshihikari rice, carefully fermented for 7 hours! It was the perfect thing to finish with :) The owner and staff at Goryeo Mulchong Kalguksu in Vision-dong, Pyeongtaek were so, so friendly that I came home feeling great about the whole meal!! I'd love to go back again.
