Mokdong ramen restaurant with crispy pork intestines: Gyedan Ramen
In short
Gyedan Ramen Mokdong Branch is a ramen restaurant in Yangcheon, Seoul, located in the SBS Mokdong basement. I ordered the 12,000 won standard motsu ramen with fried pork intestine and added spicy seasoning halfway through. Verdict: the warm, crispy topping made this a ramen bowl I would order again.

A brand-new ramen spot that had not even been open for a week! Gyedan Ramen’s main branch is in Ilsan, so it was hard to get to, and I was so happy to hear one had opened in Mokdong that I made it over pretty quickly!! It is close to Omokgyo Station and Hyundai Department Store Mokdong, too. The easiest way to explain the location? It is in the SBS basement! It felt like a spot that works equally well for office workers eating alone and families having a meal.

The exterior was neat, with a glass front that lets you see the atmosphere inside before you even enter. It is a newly opened, popular-looking spot, and the clean, warm-looking interior made me want to head right in~

There are four-person and two-person tables, six solo-dining seats, and even high chairs. I think it would be fine to come with a baby, too. Once inside, the ceiling felt fairly high, so it did not feel stuffy, and the soft lighting made it feel cozy. Ramen shops often go all in on a Japanese local feel, but Gyedan Ramen Mokdong Branch had a coziness I really liked. The staff were kind as well, which made the atmosphere feel even warmer, haha.

Ordering motsu ramen for the fried pork intestine
The menu was simple: two kinds of ramen, two mini rice bowls—chashu rice bowl and tamago rice—and a few add-ons. I had planned to try the basic Gyedan Ramen, but I saw fried makchang (pork intestine) among the toppings and ordered the motsu ramen instead. For just ₩1,000 more, I could try fried pork intestine, after all. Since it was my first visit, I chose the standard broth rather than the rich one.

You order on a tablet and pay in advance. Standard motsu ramen was ₩12,000, and cola was ₩2,000.

My motsu ramen arrived. It was a bowl of ramen where your eyes go straight to the pork intestine on top.

Warm, crispy fried pork intestine
I tried the fried pork intestine I had been curious about first. If you are the type to cook your makchang extra crisp even at a pork-intestine restaurant, try the motsu ramen~ The food arrived within five minutes, and the pork intestine was warm and crispy—so good.

And of course, I ate the chashu and egg for a protein boost, too.

The milky broth, simmered from pork and chicken bones for 14 hours, had a deep flavor. Since it was dinner, ramen that was too oily and heavy would have felt like a lot, but this broth had the deep taste of sagol (Korean beef-bone soup), so it was just right even in the evening~ The standard saltiness and richness suited my taste.

The noodles were cooked just right, and the textures of the bean sprouts and wood ear mushrooms went together nicely.

Adding spicy seasoning halfway through
There is spicy seasoning at every table. I was already enjoying the ramen as it was, but I added some out of curiosity and preferred it with the seasoning. Try adding it after you have eaten about half. It gives it a pleasantly spicy kick.

Loading up a spoonful and taking a big bite. I loved the texture of the wood ear mushrooms.

I actually ordered cola to drink midway through. But after adding the spicy seasoning, the heat somehow made it feel refreshing, so I only ended up drinking half the cola. (I still finished it instead of leaving it, haha.)

I think I would order the motsu ramen again next time. The fried pork intestine on top was the real kick.
A Mokdong ramen restaurant for solo meals and family dining
Gyedan Ramen Mokdong Branch is a new ramen restaurant close to Hyundai Department Store Mokdong, Omokgyo Station, and Mokdong Station! Personally, I loved how cozy the interior felt. I looked it up and saw good reviews for the tamago rice and milk tea too, so next time I will order milk tea instead of cola for dessert~~ Motsu ramen, with its rich broth and fried pork intestine topping, feels even more suited to weather that is gradually getting colder. It is a good restaurant where you can comfortably stop by for lunch, dinner, or a solo meal, so I recommend it.
