Yeonsu café for Brain-Booster smoothies and blue ice cream: Ugly Tongue

In short

Ugly Tongue is a café in Yeonsu, Incheon, where I ordered a Brain-Booster smoothie and blue spirulina ice cream. The ₩16,000 smoothie felt pricey, but I was impressed that it was made without ice, and the ice cream was smooth; parking must be in the J Block building.

While stopping by Songdo, I visited Ugly Tongue (어글리텅), which sells smoothies with a range of concepts. I found the menu categories interesting: beyond diet, they included names such as brain activation and stress relief. I ordered a Brain-Booster smoothie and the blue spirulina ice cream I had been curious about.

There are several buildings and parking lots nearby, so we mistakenly entered the Centrial building parking lot. When visiting Ugly Tongue, you need to park in the J Block building. If it is confusing, it may be helpful to ask about parking validation when paying.

The smoothies were divided into Anti-aging, Immune, Brain Booster, Diet, Circulation, Relax, and Body Build (protein smoothie). These are the menu concepts presented by the café. Since I had only tried diet smoothies before, I found the variety of choices interesting.

There were also many choices of tea aromas and flavors. Options included teas with spicy aromas or sweet-and-tart flavors, Assam black tea with a dark-chocolate aroma, savory tea, and tea combining peppermint and green-grape aromas.

How much is the Brain-Booster smoothie, and what is in it?

The Brain-Booster smoothie I ordered was ₩16,000. I felt it was not inexpensive compared with a typical smoothie.

The ingredient information listed banana, strawberry, avocado, almonds, walnuts, oat milk, cinnamon, maple syrup, lion's mane mushroom powder, and more. It was a smoothie made with many ingredients.

I also watched the preparation process, and I was impressed that they filled it with fruit and ingredients without adding ice. In the process I saw, I did not see syrup being added separately. However, maple syrup was included in the ingredient information.

What did the blue spirulina ice cream taste like?

The blue spirulina ice cream was ₩6,000. I ordered it as well because it was described as using Sangha Farm milk.

I heard that the blue color comes from spirulina. Based on its color alone, I expected a so-called “healthy” flavor, so I was even more curious about how it would actually taste.

When I tried it, the ice cream was smooth and tasty. The chocolate set on top had a dense, fudgy texture that went well with the ice cream. The smoothie price felt burdensome, but looking through the differently themed menu and trying an unusual ice cream stayed with me.
