Guwol-dong lunch spot: pork ssam bap set for two at Chagane Ssam Bap

I've been watching the old Infinite Challenge "Infinite Company" series as my YouTube lunch buddy lately, and the scene where they pick lunch and end up with ssam bap (leaf-wrapped rice) kept stuck in my head haha. While trying to figure out what to eat for lunch in Guwol-dong, I suddenly craved a big spread of meat and ssam vegetables, so I went to Chagane Ssam Bap, a well-known spot in Guwol-dong 😋

If you want a proper, filling Korean meal even just for lunch, I'll introduce this decent Guwol-dong restaurant :)

Where is Chagane Ssam Bap, and what about parking and hours?

Chagane Ssam Bap is located near Gil Hospital in Guwol-dong. It's a good spot to visit for office workers' lunch or a hearty Korean meal in the area, and there's a separate parking lot on the left side of the restaurant, so it's convenient to visit by car!

There are quite a lot of tables, so it seemed good for group gatherings too! Ssam vegetables, sungnyung, and water are all self-service.

What I liked most about Chagane Ssam Bap was the unlimited ssam vegetables! When eating ssam bap, it's often a shame when the vegetables you're given at first run out, but here you can grab as many as you want 😍

There's not just one kind but a variety of ssam vegetables to choose from, so even with just one piece of pork, the taste changes a bit depending on which vegetable you wrap it with!

If you're someone who normally loves ssam, this unlimited self-bar alone would probably be pretty satisfying. That said, rather than grabbing a huge pile from the start, it's better to take a little at a time and add more whenever you run out :)

Eating it as a full spread with various side dishes really felt like a proper home-cooked meal. Even though I came for lunch, given the menu, it seems like a great place to visit with family or parents for a Korean meal too haha.

The ssamjang has mud snails in it, and they also serve warm seaweed soup, so it's more than enough for a filling meal!

How did the spicy pork taste with ureong ssamjang?

I usually love stir-fried pork (jeyuk bokkeum), and it's tasty just with rice, but the combo of putting a piece of pork on ssam vegetables with ssamjang is just the best. 😍 Wrapping a mouthful of pork and vegetables together, the crunchy texture of the vegetables blends with the flavor of the pork in a way that keeps you reaching for more. If you like Korean food, I think this is a filling combination that pretty much everyone would enjoy!

One bite with pork plus ureong ssamjang added on top. Even just putting rice and pork on the ssam vegetables is delicious, but ssamjang is something you can't skip with ssam bap. At Chagane Ssam Bap you can taste ssamjang made with mud snails haha.

Rather than eating pork on its own the whole time, being able to combine it with various ssam vegetables meant I never got tired of it, right to the end. Making a big wrap and stuffing your mouth full is also part of the charm of ssam bap ~

If you're looking for a good Guwol-dong restaurant or a hearty Guwol-dong lunch spot, I'd recommend trying the pork ssam bap set at Chagane Ssam Bap! A spoonful of rice with jeyuk bokkeum and ureong ssamjang, wrapped up big in fresh vegetables ~ it was a satisfying lunch where I got to eat plenty of vegetables and fill up my stomach after a long time :)
