Yeonsu Station sashimi spot: 35,000-won flounder sekkoshi, Veteran

In short

Veteran General Fish Market Incheon Yeonsu Branch is a large sashimi restaurant on the 3rd floor of Yeonsu Plaza, a one-minute walk from Exit 4 of Yeonsu Station in Incheon. On a cool evening the writer ordered dodari sekkoshi (thin-sliced flounder cut through the bone, 35,000 won) and maeuntang spicy fish stew (8,000 won), wrapped the chewy slices in perilla leaves with pollack roe, and grilled kimchi pancake at the self-bar. Between the springy flounder and the fiery stew, Veteran General Fish Market Incheon Yeonsu Branch is a solid place for sashimi and a drink.

I was also tempted by the assorted sashimi and the raw shrimp, but this time I ordered the dodari sekkoshi and maeuntang. If you write a review, you can get 2 dried persimmons, 2 abalone, or 4 pieces of fried shrimp bread as a service item, so keep that in mind:)

The pollack and seaweed soup that comes as part of the spread is amazing for a hangover haha

The mixed sashimi salad piled with flying fish roe is also a great drinking snack haha

Flounder sekkoshi, 35,000 won: how chewy is it?

The dodari sekkoshi at Veteran General Fish Market Yeonsu Branch is ₩35,000, and it's served on a stone plate lined with ice underneath, so you can eat it cool from start to finish. After a little wait, our dodari sekkoshi arrived, generously portioned so you can really enjoy the fresh sashimi.

Taking a glossy bite of the dodari sekkoshi, the chewy, springy texture spreads a nutty flavor through your mouth the more you chew. The freshness of the sashimi comes through, just as the look of it suggested.

Good side dishes make the drinks go down smoother haha

Dodari sekkoshi pairs perfectly with perilla leaves. The portion is generous, so I piled a big handful of sashimi in a perilla leaf wrap, topped it with pollack roe, and the flavor just exploded with savoriness.

Oh no, this is too good. I love assorted sashimi too, but this dodari sekkoshi is a masterpiece. I'll have to come back for more soon hehe

Maeuntang, 8,000 won: a fiery finish to the meal

The maeuntang at Veteran General Fish Market Yeonsu Branch is ₩8,000, and it came out as a generously filled pot haha. My boyfriend had said the maeuntang here is outstanding.

He raved that it was especially spicy and delicious this time haha. Since the dodari sekkoshi is an à la carte item and doesn't include maeuntang, make sure to add it — you have to try it! Mix in some rice and it's the perfect hangover cure.

Is Veteran General Fish Market Yeonsu Branch worth it near Yeonsu Station?

If only there was a sashimi restaurant like this in every neighborhood,,💛

If a restaurant this good were in my neighborhood, I think I'd eat sashimi every week haha. Lunch special sashimi set for lunch, assorted sashimi and dodari sekkoshi other times, gizzard shad and grilled shrimp in fall, yellowtail in winter — phew, there's just so much good stuff, I'm happy. Next time I'm coming back for the shrimp and gizzard shad haha

For anyone looking for a good sashimi restaurant near Yeonsu Station, I recommend Veteran General Fish Market Incheon Yeonsu Branch — fresh sashimi, excellent side dishes, and a pleasant interior to match.
