Peach cream cake at a Gangnam café: Something About Coffee

In short

Something About Coffee is a three-floor dessert café behind CGV near Gangnam Station in Seoul. I returned after finding it full on a Saturday for hojicha milk tea, peach cream cake, lemonade, and a scone. Verdict: the nutty fresh-cream cake is my number-one pick.

Bright and charming large café atmosphere near Gangnam Station

Something About Coffee was actually somewhere I had wanted to visit not long ago. I went on a Saturday, but every floor from the first through third was completely full, so sadly I only had a quick look inside and left right away. I had heard such good things about both the desserts and coffee, and at last I got to enjoy a sweet tea time there today.

You can get there on foot from Exit 6 of Gangnam Station. It is behind Gangnam Station CGV, so it is easy to find.

A bright, charming café space across three floors

Café tables with a different atmosphere on each floor

This is the inside of Something About Coffee. With three floors in total, it is a very spacious place. There are no dark corners; it is bright throughout, with an antique yet comfortable design. Each floor and table has a slightly different mood, so you can enjoy your tea time according to your taste that day.

Personally, I liked the atmosphere on the third floor best. My dream is to make a balcony café at home, and it would be lovely if I could create exactly this kind of feeling. There are outdoor terrace seats too, but it was still a little warm, so I enjoyed tea time indoors. Once proper autumn begins with its cool breeze, I imagine the terrace will stay full.

A wide range of desserts made with care from the ingredients up

  • French gourmet butter / chocolate
  • Guérande salt
  • Finnish cream cheese
  • 100% animal-based fresh cream
  • French black tea leaves
Varied desserts in the second-floor ordering area

You can order on the second floor. This is truly the kind of place where ordering takes a long time. There are so many pretty, charming desserts that it is impossible to choose just one. The sign at the entrance said they use only 100% animal-based fresh cream, so I immediately ordered the peach cream cake too.

A lot of conditions must come together to make a delicious dessert, but personally I think ingredients matter most. Places that put so much care into the ingredients really do taste different.

Menu area with coffee and non-coffee drinks

There are plenty of drinks too: coffee, lattes, non-coffee drinks, and tea. My husband cannot drink coffee, so choosing a drink at a café can be difficult. Something About Coffee was especially nice because it has so many non-coffee options.

Various cakes topped with fruit

So many kinds of cake, too! The designs piled high with all sorts of fruit are so pretty that they almost seem too good to eat.

I had clearly just finished lunch, but it turns out there really is a separate stomach for dessert. Haha. This was today’s sweet and nutty tea-time spread.

The first thing I chose was this peach cream cake. Peaches have been especially delicious lately. It was full of crisp, sweet fresh peach! Even inside, there was plenty of nutty fresh cream and peach.

And the taste! Choosing the peach cream cake was absolutely the right decision. The nutty, moist sponge; the rich fresh cream that melted as soon as it hit my mouth; and crisp, fragrant peaches! It is a cake filled only with delicious things, so there is no way it could not be good.

This is the lemonade my husband ordered. There is a thick lemon syrup at the bottom, so be sure to stir it well. The sweet-tart flavor and fizzy sparkle were perfect for a languid afternoon.

I also had a glass of the hojicha milk tea I had been most curious about! The generous hojicha foam and soft milk were incredibly appealing. I love milk tea so much that I make it at home often, but this was the first time I had tasted milk tea this smooth, rich, and nutty.

At first I thought it would be very sweet, but once mixed, it was surprisingly less sweet than other milk teas. The deep flavor, sweetness, and nutty milk came together in a perfect sip. A sugar piece on top is its signature touch, and it had a little frozen nutty cream inside—such a special treat.

A crisp scone with a rich buttery aroma

The scone was lightly crisp outside and full of buttery aroma inside! I first fell for tea time because I loved milk tea and scones so much. I had forgotten about the wonderful nutty flavor of a scone all this time.

A sweet tea time that makes you forget the city’s bustle

  • A pastoral, cozy café atmosphere that sweeps away the city’s bustle
  • A wide range of desserts made with premium ingredients
  • The fresh cream cake is my unquestionable number-one recommendation.
  • Once autumn starts, enjoy a sweet tea time on the outdoor terrace too.
