Suwon Korean BBQ restaurant for a family dinner: Yeongpo Hwa-ro
In short
Yeongpo Hwa-ro Ingye Branch is a Korean BBQ restaurant in Ingye-dong, Suwon, Gyeonggi. We shared two servings of hanwoo assortment, yukhoe tangtang, and doenjang sulbap with my son home from abroad and my mother. Verdict: a comfortable, private-feeling choice for a family beef dinner.

My son, who had come back to Korea for the first time in years, my mother, and I went out for dinner together—the three of us, for the first time in a while. As we wondered where we should all go, Yeongpo Hwa-ro Ingye Branch (영포화로 인계점), which I had visited with my daughter before, came to mind.

It was also one of those days when I wanted beef, and parking is easy there. I remembered how delicious our last meal had been, so this time I brought my son back with me.

Charcoal-grilled hanwoo with partitioned seating
If you want charcoal-grilled hanwoo in Ingye-dong, personally, I do not think anywhere tops Yeongpo Hwa-ro. Every staff member is kind, and the atmosphere is neat and clean. With chandeliers and brass tableware, it feels polished, while the partitioned layout gives it a private feel.

We ordered two servings of hanwoo assortment, yukhoe tangtang (seasoned raw beef tartare with chopped octopus), doenjang sulbap (rice in soybean-paste broth), and two bowls of rice, and it was just right. The hanwoo assortment let us try a range of cuts; there was yukhoe my son loves and octopus my mother loves, so the whole family could not help but be pleased.

A three-person meal built around two servings of hanwoo assortment
Hanwoo assortment: ₩49,000 per serving
The hanwoo assortment at Yeongpo Hwa-ro costs ₩49,000 per serving. It is the signature menu, with cuts such as hanging tender, brisket point, flat iron, and rib meat all on one plate. Rather than choosing just one cut, it is a great choice for anyone who wants to taste a variety of beef.

There were three of us, but since we also ordered yukhoe tangtang and doenjang sulbap, we ordered only two servings of the hanwoo assortment. Beef really tastes best grilled over charcoal. Once the meat hits the brazier, a gentle charcoal aroma joins it and such a nutty fragrance rises from the beef.
It was fun to experience the slightly different textures of each cut, too. Some were tender to chew, while others had a pleasantly firmer bite, so tasting them one by one was enjoyable. When I eat beef, I prefer a light dip in salt rather than lots of seasoning so I can enjoy the meat itself, and its clean, savory beef flavor came through beautifully.

My son, back in Korea after years away, looked so happy to be grilling meat over charcoal with family again—he had filled out nicely, too. I cut the well-cooked meat into small pieces so my mother could eat it comfortably, and she slowly enjoyed every bite. We also made lovely myeong-i namul wraps, but if you add too much wasabi, it really clears your nose!
Getting together for a meal may be an ordinary thing for other families, but my son does not live in Korea, and he is a precious son I only get to see every few years. That made our family meal especially meaningful.

Playing with textures alongside yukhoe tangtang
While the meat grilled, we also tried the yukhoe tangtang we had ordered. Alternating between warm charcoal-grilled meat and the crisp, chewy yukhoe tangtang made the different textures so much fun.

At a great beef restaurant in Ingye-dong, the yukhoe should be as good as the grilled meat, right? Adding a different dish like this instead of picking at grilled beef the whole time made the meal feel much more abundant.

If three people are visiting, it is a good approach to order a moderate amount of the main meat and share side dishes as well. Hanwoo is incredibly delicious, of course, but it is on the pricier side.

Our family especially likes yukhoe, octopus, and abalone, so ordering this way seemed to make us even happier. Of course, nothing can match the crazy juices of hanwoo, though.

Finishing with doenjang sulbap
After the beef, we finished with doenjang sulbap. After eating meat, you naturally start craving something warm and brothy or some rice at the end, and ordering the doenjang sulbap let us wrap up the meal feeling full and satisfied.

Especially when three people visit together, adding yukhoe tangtang and doenjang sulbap instead of ordering beef alone according to the number of diners was nice because we could try a wider variety of dishes. In the end, two servings of hanwoo assortment gave us plenty of meat, and sharing the yukhoe tangtang and doenjang sulbap did not leave the three of us feeling shortchanged at all.

A revisit that was lovely with an older family member
Ingye-dong has so many barbecue restaurants that there are plenty of choices when you want beef. Among them, the reason I returned to Yeongpo Hwa-ro was that we could grill our own meat over a charcoal brazier and taste several cuts of hanwoo.

At a barbecue restaurant, smoke and smells are naturally a concern, but the dining room was so comfortable and fresh that it was ideal for a family meal with an older family member. The partitions made it feel private, and the golden brass bowls looked luxurious, almost as if we were being treated as honored guests.
So for anyone looking for beef in Ingye-dong and wanting a more relaxed meal for a family outing or gathering with friends, I think it would be a good fit. It is near Suwon City Hall Station in Ingye-dong, making it a great place to enjoy a second or third stop after looking around Ingye-dong's food alley or Na Hye-seok Street before or after dinner.
This time, I visited with my precious son, home after years away, and my elderly mother. It was on another level from when I had visited with my daughter before. Back then, I was the one being looked after; now I could feel the weight of being the head of the household, taking charge of feeding everyone. Still, my son grilled all the meat, so it tasted like pure honey.
When choosing a restaurant to take someone to, the food matters, but I also look at whether the atmosphere lets us sit and talk comfortably and whether the menu is easy to share according to everyone's tastes. In that sense, this meal was quite satisfying.
With two servings of hanwoo assortment plus yukhoe tangtang and doenjang sulbap, the three of us shared a generous spread and enjoyed a good range of beef dishes. Grilling it ourselves over charcoal was fun, too. If you want beef in Ingye-dong but are unsure where to go, it is worth building your meal around a hanwoo assortment that lets you taste several cuts at once.
When a place is good enough that, like me, you visit once and want to return, I think you can choose it without hesitation for a family meal, too. Sitting around the grill with my son, who had returned after so long, and my mother, sharing food and this-and-that conversation, made me so happy it brought a lump to my throat.
