Dongtan Korean BBQ for family dinner with kids: Grill the Terrace
In short
Grill the Terrace Dongtan Main Branch is a charcoal-grilled garlic-marinated Korean BBQ restaurant near Dongtan's north plaza in Hwaseong, Gyeonggi. On a weekend evening with a niece set on ribs, the order was the Uiseong Garlic Assorted Platter, 600g split half beef ribs and half pork belly, plus a complimentary seaweed soup for the child, doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew) and mul naengmyeon (cold noodle soup). With a café-like dining room and rooms seating up to 20, Grill the Terrace handled a family outing with a child and would suit group gatherings too.

A Dongtan north plaza favorite: Grill the Terrace

My niece has been completely obsessed with beef ribs lately — every time we meet up, she starts chanting for ribs. This time again, after some back and forth on what to eat, we settled on ribs and headed to Grill the Terrace Dongtan Main Branch, a well-known spot near Dongtan's north plaza. It's famous even on the Dongtan mom cafés online, with lots of people recommending it as clean and comfortable to visit with kids ✨ So — was the rib feast my niece had been singing about actually worth it? Here's my honest review!!

Is it comfortable with kids? Dining room and seating
I visited on a weekend evening and the place was already packed with customers. It's fairly close to Dongtan Central Park and Time Terrace, so a lot of families seemed to be dropping by. Honestly, when I think 'Korean BBQ restaurant,' I picture somewhere a bit loud with your clothes soaking up meat smell.

But Grill the Terrace felt clean and comfortable, more like a café, so eating there with a kid wasn't stressful at all! There were about 19 tables in total, split into seating from 4-person tables up to spaces for 8, 12, and even up to 20 people — great not just for a Dongtan family meal but also as a spot for a work dinner or group gathering in Dongtan.
Uiseong Garlic Assorted Platter, 600g: half pork belly, half beef ribs

We ordered the Uiseong Garlic Assorted Platter (600g) so we could try both pork belly and beef ribs. At 600g it comes half pork belly, half beef ribs ⭐️pork belly + beef rib combo⭐️ — perfect if two people want to sample a bit of everything.
The marinade on the Uiseong garlic platter apparently uses Uiseong six-clove garlic, said to be in the top 1% of domestically grown garlic. I was so curious what meat infused with that distinctive Uiseong garlic flavor would taste like 😋
Banchan and the free seaweed soup for kids

The banchan (side dishes) came out neat and tidy — corn salad, myeongi namul (wild garlic chive), seasoned bean sprouts, pickled radish, wasabi, wholegrain mustard sauce, onion sauce — all pairing well with the meat. Especially nice: a complimentary seaweed soup for young children, and even though it's a freebie, it had such deep savory flavor that my niece finished a whole bowl of rice with it.

Grilled over coffee-wood charcoal: how smoky was the flavor?
Grill the Terrace apparently uses coffee-wood charcoal, grilling the meat quickly to lock in the juices. Sure enough, once the meat hit the grill, the outside cooked fast while the inside stayed juicy and moist. Being charcoal-grilled, there was also a fairly strong, subtly smoky flavor on the surface of the meat 👍
Uiseong garlic beef ribs
First, the beef ribs — the salty marinade blended well with the savory beef flavor, and the more you chewed, the more the meat's own umami came through from the tender texture.

Rather than the marinade masking the meat's flavor, the deep rib character came through more the longer you chewed, and it paired really well eaten with rice.

Uiseong garlic pork belly
The pork belly felt much lighter than the beef ribs. The Uiseong six-clove garlic marinade was subtly worked into the meat, which made the pork belly's characteristic savoriness and juiciness come through even more.

You could taste both a subtle garlic aroma and a charcoal smokiness, along with the savory, clean flavor typical of pork. Despite being a garlic-marinated meat, it wasn't overly sweet or intense, so it never got tiring even after eating a lot of it 👍

Sides: doenjang jjigae and mul naengmyeon
For sides, we ordered doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew) and mul naengmyeon (cold noodle soup)! Both went well alongside the meat and gave the meal a clean finish — Grill the Terrace nailed the sides too.
Would I go back to Grill the Terrace near Dongtan north plaza?
Meat + garlic — a combo every Korean truly loves, and it's basically impossible to get wrong ❤️ The Uiseong garlic marinade especially stood out as different from the usual marinade flavors I've had before, and that's what stuck with me most.

With its subtle sweetness and deep savory appeal, it clicked instantly why this place keeps coming up as a Dongtan north plaza go-to. Next time I'm craving ribs, Grill the Terrace near Dongtan's north plaza is a definite repeat visit for me 🤤
