In short

Jeju Samchun Hamdeok is a black pork barbecue restaurant in Jocheon-eup, Jeju, near Hamdeok Beach. Staff grill the 300-hour aged black pork smoked with grapevine chips right at the table, and the wraps with fresh kimchi salad and grilled kimchi, plus a kimchi jjigae loaded with meat, were standouts. It made for a hearty family meal after a day at Hamdeok Beach.

After sightseeing at Hamdeok Beach, we started getting hungry for meat. It's right near the beach so it was easy to get to, and you can't skip black pork when you're in Jeju, haha. We'd had our fill of the ocean, so now it was time to fill our stomachs properly! Today we visited Jeju Samchun's Hamdeok location.

Hours, parking, and how to find it

⏰ Open daily 12:00–23:00, last order 22:00

🚗 There's no dedicated parking lot, so we used a nearby parking area. It's much easier if you check parking ahead of time! The sign is visible right from the street, so it wasn't hard to find, and there were even chairs to wait on near the entrance.

Wide interior, easy to sit with kids

Walking in, the inside was bigger than I expected. The tables were spaced out generously so it didn't feel cramped, and everything was neatly arranged overall. A lot of barbecue places get pretty crowded and noisy, but the space here was so wide that it was easy to sit down and eat with the kids.

The 300-hour aging chamber for black pork

An aging chamber on one side of the restaurant immediately caught my eye. Looking inside, it was packed with black pork! They said certified Jeju black pork is aged at low temperature for 300 hours, then smoked using grapevine wood chips. 300 hours of aging, seriously... I got excited even before the meat arrived, haha.

Tablet ordering, picking the menu

Once you sit down, you can browse the menu and order right away on a tablet. The basic side dishes got set out one by one, and now it's time to pick what to eat, haha. There were more options than I expected — set menus, portions sized for your group, and à la carte items like pork neck and pork belly. Since we were eating with the kids, we picked with the right amount in mind.

Thick-cut black pork grilled by staff

Finally, our black pork order arrived. Thick-cut slices came out with king oyster mushrooms and shishito peppers. The thickness of the meat alone was satisfying, and here, staff grill it for you from start to finish so it's ready to eat, which made things even easier. No scrambling to grill meat while also looking after the kids — this was so nice, haha.

Watching it turn golden brown, it already looked amazing, lol. One bite in, it was more tender and savory than I expected — really on point. The fat especially wasn't greasy at all and had a nice chewy texture. That was the moment I thought, glad we came to Jeju and had black pork, haha.

The surprise hit: fresh kimchi salad and grilled kimchi

I thought the meat alone would be the star, but the surprise hit was the fresh kimchi salad. Piled on top with some grilled kimchi too, this combo was totally my style! One bite, then wrapping another, I kept going nonstop, lol.

Kimchi jjigae loaded with meat

While eating the meat, I also had a bite of the kimchi jjigae (kimchi stew)! Well-fermented kimchi in a spicy, rich broth — taking a few spoonfuls in between really reset my appetite. It was the kind of kimchi jjigae that makes you crave rice.

And the amount of meat inside the kimchi jjigae, lol. It had bigger chunks of meat than I expected, and since it had been simmered so long, it fell apart tender and easily. Fishing out the meat while eating the stew was a treat in itself!

My kid had a bite of the meat too, munch munch! Probably because it was so tender, they happily took whatever I gave them. Seeing the kids eat well made this meal a success too. A day of ocean views at Hamdeok followed by a hearty black pork meal! Ate well on this trip and heading out happy 💗
