Abalone seaweed soup and mul-hoe set meal on Udo, Jeju: Soseom Jeonbok

In short

Soseom Jeonbok is an abalone specialty restaurant on Udo Island, Jeju, right on Udo Coastal Road. The ₩48,000 wedding table set brought abalone rice, butter-grilled abalone, abalone seaweed soup, and abalone mul-hoe (cold raw fish soup) to one table, all enjoyed with an ocean view through floor-to-ceiling windows. The warm soup and cold mul-hoe never overlapped in flavor, making it a meal that stayed satisfying to the last bite.

If you've made it out to Udo Island while traveling Jeju, you've gotta properly demolish a real abalone meal, right? haha

This time I visited Soseom Jeonbok, a place where you can enjoy a whole range of abalone dishes while looking out at the Udo sea.

Parking and location at Soseom Jeonbok on Udo

Peanuts and seafood are famous on Udo, so I snacked my way through this and that and had a fun trip haha. If you're driving, there's a parking space right in front of the building, so you can park easily.

There's also a special museum discount — 1 free americano, 20% off...! (Cafe Queens, selling for ₩7,000). They said they'd hand you a discount voucher that could get you totally hooked on Hundertwasser haha.

Since we'd come all the way to Udo, Jeju, we had to properly demolish some abalone haha. Soseom Jeonbok, a Udo restaurant with sea views, makes it clear right from the name what dish it specializes in haha. As an abalone specialty restaurant, you can meet the charm of a Jeju trip right here.

Putting abalone innards jeotgal on the black pork skewer

After cutting the black pork skewer, one of the basic side dishes, into bite-sized pieces with the scissors provided, there's a reddish abalone innards jeotgal among the side dishes. Put it on top of the meat and eat it together for an even tastier bite haha.

Scoop up a generous spoonful of abalone rice and top it with the abalone innards jeotgal for an even better bite! A bite of tangy, refreshing mul-hoe, then a bite of savory abalone rice, then back to the butter-grilled abalone — each one heads in a different direction of flavor so it never got tiring!

The wedding table set lets you taste a variety of abalone dishes on one table, so it was great to order when visiting with several people. The moment I saw the table filled up, I naturally said, 'I'm so glad we came all the way to Udo!' haha.

The abalone was chewy yet tender, and the more I chewed, the more I could taste the savory flavor of the sea, with that springy, plump texture unique to abalone still alive in each bite — it felt like tasting the whole Jeju sea in my mouth ♡

Ocean views through the floor-to-ceiling windows

If you want to enjoy the scenery along with a great Udo meal, what stuck with me most at Soseom Jeonbok was the Udo scenery enjoyed together with the food haha. The sea spreads out so refreshingly beyond the floor-to-ceiling windows that even while eating, you never lose the mood of a Jeju trip!

On Udo you have to keep an eye on ferry times and there are so many sightseeing spots that it's easy to rush through meals, but I found it nice to sit down for once and eat slowly while looking out at the sea >3<

From abalone rice to mul-hoe, seaweed soup, and butter-grilled abalone — being able to taste so many dishes at once made choosing easy. I especially recommend the abalone seaweed soup + abalone mul-hoe combo in the wedding table set!

You get to eat warm soup and cold mul-hoe at the same time, and with butter-grilled abalone added on top, the flavors never overlapped, so I could enjoy it all the way to the last bite.

On a day when I wanted to properly eat a meal looking at the sea on Udo, this was a satisfying meal filled up with plenty of abalone 💙

The many charms of abalone, all in one meal

  • Abalone rice – plain and savory
  • Butter-grilled abalone – hot with rich flavor
  • Abalone seaweed soup – warm and comforting
  • Abalone mul-hoe – cool and refreshing

Same abalone, but the feeling was completely different depending on how you ate it. If you've made it to Udo, you've got to properly demolish abalone like this to say you've really been to Jeju haha. Delicious abalone dishes and beautiful sea views, two pleasures at once — that was Soseom Jeonbok, a great restaurant on Udo :)
