I heard there was a spot near Dongmun Market where you could get a proper American-style meal, so my husband and I went to check it out :) Parking in Jeju City is genuinely rough, right? Everything's packed and cramped with cars squeezed in everywhere, so parking in an actual lot is the least stressful option — and this place happens to have a public parking lot right across the street, so parking was really easy! Just note there's no dedicated lot for the restaurant. (I think the public lot is free after 6 or 8pm in the evening!)

It's a no-kids-zone restaurant and pets aren't allowed.

What kind of place is Dixie's?

Dixie's is a Southern American soul food brand — a casual dining concept that reinterprets the warm food culture and lifestyle of the American South through a Jeju sensibility. Signature dishes include Nashville hot chicken and fried chicken, plus Nashville chicken burgers and various bowl menus made with them, and more recently they launched a Big Tray menu that piles hot chicken, burgers, mac and cheese, and biscuits — all of Dixie's signatures — onto one tray!

Tableware is all self-serve, and drinks are also self-serve after ordering!

Weekday lunch perk

There's a limited weekday lunch perk too — order a bowl and get a free soda or mini side (mini mac and cheese or fries)!

Check the Dixie's menu for reference! I was curious about the burger, but it seemed like burgers were only served at lunch! If you want the burger, go for lunch; if you want chicken, plan for dinner.

We ordered chicken and a bowl — the Nashville hot chicken basket and the Braised Pork (BEST)!

For bowls, you can either build your own combination or order a set menu like we did — we hate overthinking things, so we just went with the best-seller.

You can also freely choose rice or salad, main protein, toppings, and sauce, so it looked like a nice option for building your own personal bowl!

Since it's a rice bowl, there's rice at the bottom, topped with the braised pork, corn, vegetables, sauce, and cheese.

There was quite a generous amount of meat piled on, and since it was my first time trying Southern American food, I was excited to find out what it would taste like.

Mixing it all together before tasting!

I liked that the spice wasn't overpowering — it tasted similar to the taco flavors I usually eat!

For the chicken, you can choose two sauces, either collard kale or coleslaw, and your spice level, and you can add a biscuit too!

My husband and I each picked one sauce — on the left is Southern Green with cilantro, which I love! On the right is remoulade, a tartar-like sauce.

At this Dongmun Market favorite, I tried the kale instead of coleslaw, and it came out looking like pickled kale.

The chicken was fried super crispy — crispy outside, juicy inside, with all the juices intact! After a saltwater brine and buttermilk aging, the inside stayed moist and tender while the outside was fried fresh to order for maximum crunch!

There were two drumsticks and two wings.

That cilantro sauce at this Dongmun Market favorite was totally my type! Personally I'd have loved even more cilantro flavor.

I expected some drier meat under the drumsticks and wings, but it all seemed to be dark meat — tender and boneless, so it was easy to eat!

The chicken at this Dongmun Market favorite was spicy and crispy — genuinely delicious at Dixie's.
