I went looking for a fall seasonal sashimi spot and ended up at Eochongye 1beonji near Hwagok Station!! I'd been wanting raw shrimp sashimi and it's in season right now!! I got to eat truly fresh raw shrimp sashimi and mullet sashimi, a proper fall seasonal feast haha. Here's the review of the seasonal assorted platter and the raw shrimp sashimi with grilled heads.

Eochongye 1beonji is just a short walk from Hwagok Station! There were seasonal fish of every kind in the tanks out front — so many tanks, all packed full, and you could tell right away this is the go-to sashimi spot for the Hwagok-dong and Sinwol-dong neighborhood!!

Fall shrimp is having a moment right now — fresh shrimp caught by fishermen every morning! There was a ton of shrimp and it was huge. They even sell a raw shrimp festival set menu with salt-grilled shrimp, grilled shrimp head with butter, fried shrimp, shrimp ramyeon, and gizzard shad sashimi. I'd been craving grilled prawns, raw shrimp sashimi, and gizzard shad, and with the cool fall weather setting in it hit the spot even more. Such a great place to eat seasonal sashimi really fresh.
Inside Eochongye 1beonji: seating and atmosphere

Here's the inside of Eochongye 1beonji. There's plenty of space on both sides in the back! Even though I went in the early evening, it was already busy.
What's on the menu at Eochongye 1beonji?

You can get all kinds of seasonal sashimi, assorted platters, seafood, fried dishes, grilled dishes and more — a total value-for-money sashimi restaurant that sells basically everything!!! A well-priced sashimi spot near Hwagok Station.

The seasonal menu includes live squid sashimi, mussel soup, striped beakfish, and grilled shrimp, plus seafood like sea squirt, sea cucumber, live octopus, scallop sashimi, and boiled squid. Salt-grilled raw shrimp comes in 500g or 1kg — and raw shrimp sashimi can be ordered at the exact same price, just ask when you order!! I was so happy they actually sell raw shrimp sashimi here.
The autumn order: raw shrimp sashimi, mini platter, sushi rice

Time to flex a little with some sashimi haha. First sashimi I'd had in a while!!

First, the basic banchan (side dishes) came out quickly — seaweed soup, edamame, aged kimchi, seasoned seaweed, and potato salad.

Here's everything we ordered!! Sashimi with a drink after work — feels like it melts away all the stress~!

How do you eat live raw shrimp sashimi?
For the 500g raw shrimp sashimi, they give you cotton work gloves and hygiene gloves and show you how to prep it yourself. When the raw shrimp sashimi came out I was a little scared at first... but they showed me exactly how to do it! Handed over the cotton gloves and disposable gloves haha.

I thought it would come already peeled haha, but nope — still hopping around, totally unexpected visual haha.

Raw shrimp sashimi is in season from early September through October. Truly a fall seasonal food — sweet and impressively bouncy in texture!

It had a bit of that soy-marinated shrimp flavor too, sweeter and with a chewy, bouncy texture — and the shrimp were genuinely huge!! A real fall seasonal delicacy, raw shrimp sashimi!

Felt like I got my fill of soy-marinated shrimp flavor — fall shrimp really are bigger and bouncier.

Is grilled shrimp head butter worth the 3,000 won?
The grilled shrimp heads with butter came out — I added it for ₩3,000 just because, and I would have regretted skipping it!!! Why is it this good? Genuinely delicious, must have been grilled directly over flame — a real grilled shrimp specialist!! They even asked if I wanted half the raw shrimp order grilled instead — I bet that half-grilled version would've been amazing too.

I'd wanted grilled prawns too, but I'm so glad I ordered the grilled heads instead!!! The shrimp were so fresh and in season that even grilled, they were incredible. Packed full inside with insane umami!

What comes on the mini seasonal assorted sashimi platter?
Next up, Eochongye 1beonji's signature dish, the seasonal assorted sashimi — this was the mini version. Affordable, and the portion was just right, great as a drinking snack too! Even the mini size came with a proper variety — mullet, flounder, salmon, and red seabream! Being live-fish sashimi, it was incredibly bouncy and fresh. Highly recommend this as a sashimi spot near Hwagok Station!

The bouncy, glossy look of the sashimi is just so good — a truly fresh, in-season live-fish sashimi spot!!!

Four sauces served with the sashimi platter
When you order the assorted platter, you also get several kinds of sauce — ceviche sauce, shiitake wasabi, special makjang (seasoned soybean paste), and special hairtail jeotgal (salted fermented hairtail)!!! Along with wasabi, soy sauce, and vinegar-gochujang, all these different sauces made the sashimi even better!

Wrapping the sashimi with the special makjang or hairtail jeotgal was genuinely delicious. Mullet sashimi wrapped in these sauces is the best move!

The salmon was bouncy and really good too

Finishing with self-serve sushi rice
The vinegared rice was fluffy and perfectly seasoned, so filling but I cleaned the whole plate..!! Made my own sushi this way too haha. Everything at Eochongye 1beonji was great — the raw shrimp sashimi, the assorted platter, the grilled shrimp, just all of it was good haha.

The vinegared rice grains were still nice and lively haha. Had such a great fall seasonal sashimi meal at Eochongye 1beonji. If you're looking for a good sashimi restaurant around Hwagok Station or Sinwol-dong, definitely give Eochongye 1beonji a try — the fall raw shrimp sashimi, grilled prawns, and salt-grilled shrimp were all so good!!
