Fatty tuna belly sushi platter after a Goyang concert: Hwangje Sushi
In short
Hwangje Sushi Ilsan Main Branch is a sushi restaurant near Ilsan Lake Park and the SK M-City mall in Goyang, Gyeonggi. After a concert at Goyang Stadium, the writer ordered a fatty belly sushi platter of 10 pieces and a special sushi set of 12 pieces, served with abalone innard porridge, sweet potato croquette, and mini udon on the side, with the flounder fin the standout texture. A great stop for a sushi feast after a concert or a walk around the lake park.

From solo dining to groups: seating and ordering

Tables ranging from bar seats to 4-person tables — good for solo diners up to groups!
+ Oh, and private bookings are possible if you contact the restaurant directly, just so you know haha
Order tablets at every table. We ordered the special sushi 12p (₩23,000) and the fatty belly assorted sushi 10p (₩29,000)

What's at the self-serve bar
While waiting for our order, we checked out the self-serve bar to the left of the bar table. Scissors, small plates, baby utensils, even soup broth. Skipped the broth since it was hot out, but having it self-serve seemed like it'd make eating more comfortable

Included sides: abalone innard porridge, sweet potato croquette, mini udon
The standard included sides are supposed to be three kinds of pickled vegetables, grilled fish, seasonal porridge, and tempura — we got abalone innard porridge for the seasonal porridge and sweet potato croquette for the tempura. Also, ordering sushi comes with mini udon included by default! Even the mini udon was solid quality, so I enjoyed it
✨Saw this while eating — some soldiers came into the restaurant and the owner swapped their udon for a bigger bowl, and the soldiers were so happy saying the world is a warm place ㅜㅜ so touching✨

Fatty belly sushi 10p and special sushi 12p breakdown
Fatty belly assorted sushi on the left, special sushi 12p on the right.
The fatty belly assorted sushi is a new menu item made up of tuna belly, swordfish belly, salmon belly, flounder fin, and seasonal live fish belly ankimo — I ordered it right away when I heard that! The special sushi had a variety I liked, from flounder to abalone to tuna, so I ordered that too

A belly sushi lover's taste verdict
Mine was the fatty belly assorted sushi! (I'm famously a belly sushi lover haha) I'd love to name the fish one by one from top to bottom, but,,, I'm hopeless at telling fish apart, so I could only identify the salmon belly and the flounder fin lol
The one at the very top left seemed like a fish I hadn't tried even at other sushi places — totally rich and fatty, so good,,, and the others held up well too given how famous this place is for Ilsan sushi, but the flounder fin especially had incredible texture — my number one of the bunch,,,!
+ Oh, and if you can't handle wasabi, you need to tell the staff before ordering
Conclusion
🌟Conclusion🌟 The care of warming even the seasonal porridge bowl, the kindness shown to the soldiers, and most importantly, the taste of the sushi — recommended as an Ilsan sushi spot‼️
Recommended if you're heading to a concert in Goyang (about 10 minutes by taxi from the stadium!) or visiting Ilsan Lake Park and want sushi!
