Why Sushi Doku The Songdo for a mom's birthday dinner?
You know how picking a place for mom's birthday is oddly the hardest part? 🎂 Too casual feels lacking, but somewhere overly fancy can feel like a lot too. This time I went for a clean, proper sushi meal with mom. Sushi Doku The Songdo 🍣

It's a place worth knowing about if you want real sushi in Songdo, and the menu was varied enough to work for a family meal too. Since it was mom's birthday, we said let's eat a bit more properly than usual — so we both ordered the same set.
Sushi Doku The Songdo had a tidy first impression right from the exterior. On days that are a little more special than usual, like a birthday or anniversary, the restaurant's atmosphere matters more than you'd think. The interior was clean overall too, which made it comfortable to eat with mom. I liked that the vibe wasn't too loud or busy — it felt like a place to focus on the sushi and enjoy the meal.

What comes in the premium sushi set 10pc at 25,900 won?
We ordered the premium sushi set 10pc at ₩25,900 per person, one each for mom and me. Sitting there on her birthday with identical plates in front of us haha.
The set comes with 10 pieces total: flounder, red seabream, salmon, squid, sweet shrimp, akami tuna, red shrimp, snow crab, eel, and monkfish liver. It goes from white fish to tuna, shrimp, eel and monkfish liver, so the flavor doesn't stay in one lane the whole time — that was the strength of this set.

Starting with flounder, red seabream and salmon
Mild fish like flounder and red seabream are good to eat early on in a sushi meal. They have a chewy yet clean texture with that distinct fish umami, and they set up a nice contrast with the richer pieces that come later. Salmon brings its signature soft texture and fatty richness. Going from light to rich meant the flavor never felt flat even across 10 pieces.

Squid and sweet shrimp: how the textures differ
Squid is a piece where the chewy texture really comes through, adding some fun to chew on. Next up, sweet shrimp lives up to its name — the subtle sweetness and soft texture in the mouth is the highlight! Isn't it half the fun of eating sushi that the texture changes completely depending on the ingredient, even within the same meal 😎

Richer flavors from the akami tuna onward
Unlike the mild white fish, akami tuna brings that distinct tuna umami, making it a good piece to hit around the middle of the set. Then comes red shrimp, and if you like shrimp, this is your happy stretch. With both sweet shrimp and red shrimp in the set, it's fun to compare the different charms of each shrimp.
Snow crab, eel and monkfish liver (ankimo)
Toward the back, more standout ingredients show up. Snow crab brings that crab umami and a texture that melts softly apart, while eel adds a sweet, rich flavor that's different from the fish before it — perfect for the closing stretch.
And personally, the piece that made me go oh? when I saw the lineup was the monkfish liver! Monkfish liver has that rich, creamy character, and being able to experience everything from light fish to this rich a finish on one plate was the appeal of the 10pc set.
What made this set work as a birthday meal

Above all, this wasn't just any meal out — it was mom's birthday dinner. So when picking the menu, I wanted something that wasn't too ordinary, and being able to enjoy 10 kinds of sushi at once suited a birthday meal well. At ₩25,900 per person, that's ₩51,800 for the two of us.

For the cost of a clean sushi meal for two on a special day, the composition made it worth it. The range from basics like flounder and red seabream to akami, snow crab, eel, and monkfish liver was also a plus!
It especially suited a day like mom's birthday, where you want to keep some atmosphere but focus on delicious food rather than an overly elaborate meal. 💕 If you're ever weighing options for a family meal or anniversary in Songdo, Sushi Doku The Songdo is worth checking

out. They happened to have leftover tuna that day, so they gave us free sushi on top — so good.
