Pyeongtaek Chinese dining, soft noodles: Jangsu Jjambbong Jeonmunjeom
In short
Jangsu Jjambbong Jeonmunjeom is a Chinese restaurant in Godeok, Pyeongtaek, Gyeonggi, with a spacious parking lot. My parents and I ordered extra-large Gobul Jjambbong, meat jjambbong, and gan-jjajang for 2,000 won extra per dish. Verdict: a generous, satisfying lunch with remarkably thin, soft noodles that did not feel heavy.

A Pyeongtaek Chinese restaurant visit with my parents
How many Chinese restaurants have I visited with my parents over the years, and how many times have we eaten Chinese food together? It must be countless. Chinese restaurants have always been our number-one eating-out destination. Haha.
This time, we visited Jangsu Jjambbong Jeonmunjeom, a Chinese restaurant in Pyeongtaek's Godeok area that is known as a good local spot. What a nice name—Jangsu, meaning longevity~~ May everyone eat delicious food and live long, healthy lives..!
- Hours: Mon–Fri 11:00–19:00 (break time 15:00–17:00), Sat 11:00–15:00 (last order 14:30)
- Closed: Every Sunday
- Parking: A fully equipped parking lot in front of the restaurant

The restaurant occupies its own building in a quiet area, and the parking lot is spacious. It is slightly outside Godeok's busy district, but it seems lots of people come because it has such a good reputation.

The interior was very spacious, with plenty of room between tables, so it felt comfortable. Still, that signature “red” Chinese-restaurant décor certainly stood out, haha.

Three extra-large dishes ordered by tablet
Here is the menu. Most main dishes are around ₩10,000. Rice dishes and noodle dishes are listed separately, and there is tangsuyuk (sweet and sour pork), too; its small, medium, and large portions are reasonably priced as well. Such good value in this era of high prices.

Each table has a tablet where you can check the menu and pay. We ordered Jangsu Jjambbong Jeonmunjeom's signature Gobul Jjambbong (₩12,000), meat jjambbong (₩12,000), and gan-jjajang (₩10,000).
A quick note! We ordered all three dishes extra-large. Hahaha. The extra-large upgrade costs ₩2,000.

Our order came out quickly. Ahhh, so generous~~ Chinese food always looks delicious! Jjajang and jjambbong always get us excited.

Jjambbong piled with gochujang bulgogi and meat
First up, Jangsu Jjambbong Jeonmunjeom's signature dish: Gobul Jjambbong. It is this restaurant's distinctive and delicious signature jjambbong, topped with gochujang pork bulgogi. I did not know what “Gobul” meant, but it stands for gochujang bulgogi. Haha.
This was actually my first jjambbong topped with gochujang bulgogi, and this combination was really good. The gochujang pork bulgogi and jjambbong worked surprisingly well together.

This is the meat jjambbong. Can you see the color difference from the gochujang bulgogi? The pork on top is thinly sliced bulgogi-style meat like the Gobul, but it is plain, unseasoned pork. I already love meat jjambbong, so this bowl loaded with meat was so delicious.

Do you happen to have lettuce? Hahaha. It would be so good wrapped up in a lettuce ssam (wrap), too. The bulgogi had that smoky wok flavor~ It was delicious even eaten on its own!

Thin, wonderfully soft noodles
It was delicious with the noodles, too. But honestly, the part my parents and I were all most satisfied with was the noodles! How did they make the noodles this soft and tasty??? They did not seem hand-pulled, but the noodles were fantastic.
It may just be my family's personal preference, but the noodles were slightly thin and soft—not mushy at all—so they had a lovely texture and felt very easy to digest.

The broth was rich and thick, too! Now this is meat jjambbong~

You can get more danmuji (yellow pickled radish) and onions from the self-service corner~ You will also find any bowls, tongs, and scissors you need there. Okay then, shall we move on to the jjajang that has been feeling a little left out?~

Sweet-and-salty gan-jjajang at a jjambbong specialist
Extra-large gan-jjajang~ Dad enthusiastically mixed it all up for us! For gan-jjajang, it initially seemed to have a little moisture, but once mixed, it was just right.

Wow, what would we have done if we had not ordered the jjajang? Oh my, this is a jjambbong specialist, but the jjajang was delicious too, with that perfect sweet-and-salty balance. Dad even said the jjajang was better than the jjambbong.

Sharing it around~ Haha, Mom's serious(?) gaze!

We happily worked our way through all three dishes in rotation.

I was a little sad that we had not ordered tangsuyuk to wrap with the jjajangmyeon, haha, but the jjajangmyeon alone was plenty delicious. Especially those noodles!! We ate an enormous extra-large meal, yet it digested well and did not leave us feeling heavy at all.

And to finish, a cup of mixed coffee~

It was almost 2 o'clock by the time we finished. Since the restaurant is open only until 3 p.m. on Saturdays, it was quiet, but I heard it gets frantically busy during weekday meal times. If I lived nearby, I think I would come by for jjambbong and jjajang now and then.

The owner has cared for the plants so nicely, too~ (Restaurants with well-tended indoor garden beds are often great places to eat.)
