Gasan Digital Complex Japanese restaurant: unagidong for two, Gapposo

In short

Gapposo is a Japanese restaurant on the first floor of Hyundai Terra Tower Gasan DK, by Gasan Digital Complex Station in Geumcheon, Seoul, run by a chef who trained at five-star hotels. On a weekday evening with a friend who was close to giving birth, the writer ordered the sharing set for two (59,000 won), added a single unagidong (eel rice bowl, 20,000 won), and split one sawa highball and one non-alcoholic highball. Because the set brings kaisendon (seafood rice bowl), unagidong, karaage and mini udon out together, the sharing menu is the one to order when there are two of you.

Searching hard for good restaurants near Gasan Digital Complex to have a nice dinner with a friend who's about to give birth soon, I found Gapposo, a Japanese restaurant in Gasan!

I heard it's run by a chef who used to work at a five-star hotel, so I was even more excited. And it lived up to my expectations — it was so delicious! 🤍

What the exterior and interior of Gapposo are like

Gapposo looks great from the outside!

Gapposo's arched, wood-toned entrance exterior

True to a good Japanese restaurant, the entrance has that Japanese feel from the moment you walk up, right? The arched wood-toned entrance was really pretty. Inside had a warm atmosphere too. The place has a great vibe, and on a weekday evening the whole hall was fully booked!

Since it was full, I couldn't get many interior shots, so I just snapped one of the table we used haha. The inside of Gapposo was clean overall, and besides the hall tables there are private rooms too, making it great for dates or gatherings.

Given the chef's five-star hotel background, I had high expectations for the food quality too! They said they use seasonal seafood sourced directly from the origin, which is nothing but good news for a seafood lover like me. 🤍

What is on the menu at Gapposo

Gapposo has

a wide range of menus, from a premium bento available by reservation only, to omakase, set menus, and à la carte dishes.

The menu was really varied and substantial. From the ₩29,000 lunch omakase, to a sharing menu where two people can try multiple dishes together, to dinner courses and sushi courses, there were plenty of options.

There are also à la carte sushi and rice bowl options, so you could enjoy a solo meal and still choose whatever suits your taste — a nice wide range.

From aged-fish sashimi and sushi to kaisendon, sakedon, tendon, and unagidong, the Japanese dishes were varied, and there were plenty of side dishes to go with them too haha. Perfect for a greedy person like me. 🤍 Order a lot, eat a lot!

Just looking at the menu, I could tell why it's so popular in Gasan. From omakase to the sharing set for two to dinner courses, the prices were all pretty reasonable! This quality at this price doesn't quite make sense... what a steal. ✨

There was even a waiting notice at the entrance, and it wasn't there for nothing. Great taste, great price, and a great atmosphere too!

On the table, napkins and a set of utensils were neatly laid out.

The water was some kind of cool, nutty barley tea, and it was delicious! A glass of water that whets your appetite haha.

Sharing set for two at 59,000 won, plus a single unagidong

⭐️ What we ordered ⭐️

  • Sharing set for two (₩59,000)
  • Unagidong (single, added, ₩20,000)
  • 2 highballs (sawa / non-alcoholic)

The sharing set for two (₩59,000) is

The sharing set for two at Gapposo

made up of kaisendon, unagidong, karaage, and mini udon. I debated adding extra sushi or fried food, but figured it would be nice for each of us to have our own unagidong, so I added one more. Conclusion: adding it was such a good call!

First, a warm porridge came out as an appetizer. Warmth is everything with porridge, and this one was truly warm!

Warm porridge served as an appetizer

Perfect for gently warming up your stomach (a little warm-up) while waiting for the main dishes.

And the highball, need I even say! Refreshing, sweet, cool. My friend went non-alcoholic just for the vibe, but said even that was delicious and made her happy. 🤭✨

Then the main dishes came out pretty quickly too!

A table fully spread with Gapposo's sharing set for two

There wasn't even enough table space. 🤍 I get so happy when the table is completely full. I can never finish it all, but having a table spread completely full just makes me so happy lol. I was surprised by how much more generous the portions were than I expected, haha. But the menu composition was really great.

Individually served mini udon and rice bowl dishes

Being able to eat unagidong and kaisendon at the same time made me really glad we ordered the sharing set for two! And since the mini udon that flour-and-carb lovers enjoy comes out individually too, it's perfect for cleansing the palate!

Sashimi, six pieces

The sashimi comes in 6 pieces, and the selection seems to vary a bit each time. Not too thick, not too thin — the thickness alone passed the test!

A plate of Gapposo's 6-piece sashimi

Overall it had a clean taste with no fishy notes, and the texture was wonderfully tender to chew.

Unagidong, the top pick for both of us

And then the unagidong, glistening with a delicious smell and glossy sheen. This was our top pick, the two of us agreed!

It's piled high with freshwater eel, nicely coated in sauce that was neither too salty nor too sweet — just right. The eel had almost no small bones, and it was grilled to a perfect middle point — not too crisp, not undercooked. The ginger and wasabi that came with it, we each added according to our own taste!

And the egg underneath the eel! That egg is the kicker!! When I took a big bite of the soft egg, eel, and rice all together, that one mouthful today was just so good. The eel sauce and egg went together so well. If you like unagidong (single, ₩20,000), I think you'd really enjoy this one!

Kaisendon (seafood rice bowl)

And the visually striking kaisendon! Egg, raw fish, ginger, and various other ingredients piled generously on top, looking great and tasting great too! It gave off a really fresh feeling.

You can lay a piece of fish over the rice and eat it like a rice bowl, or, once full, eat it separately like sashimi. I ate it mixed with rice at first, then once I got full I picked out just the fish on its own.

Overall it was clean with no fishy taste, and the fish was well-aged. It was chewy yet tender, and each ingredient had a slightly different texture, which made it fun to eat in different ways. And there's eel on top of this one too!

Chili pepper karaage and shrimp chips

But eating only seafood can get a bit much sometimes. That's when you need some fried food to come in. And here's the thing — the sharing set for two already includes spicy chicken karaage!

No need for a separate à la carte order! Crispy spicy karaage! Underneath there are also shrimp chips, and my friend said those were super delicious too.

Shrimp chips laid beneath the karaage

I tried it too, and the two go together surprisingly well — I kept reaching for more. The karaage meat was juicy and tender, and I liked that there wasn't much tough meat. The seasoning on the spicy karaage was a little kick of heat, so even being fried, it wasn't greasy!

Eating sashimi, then picking up some karaage on the side, then slurping some mini udon to cleanse the palate—

Mini udon eaten as a palate cleanser

a proper systematic eating course lol.

Who Gapposo suits best

It was my first visit, and the place was already fully booked on a weekday evening, which made it clear how popular it is in Gasan. Great to come with a friend like me, but it would also be perfect for a date or a blind date! With such a varied menu, it's great for a group too, where everyone can order according to their own taste.

Especially for seafood lovers, I think you'll be satisfied with how fresh the raw fish is here! The food overall was clean and the ingredients fresh, so I was really happy. A chef with a five-star hotel background really does make a difference! 👏🏻

I found this place while searching for restaurants near Gasan Digital Complex, and even searching just for Japanese restaurants, I think I'll be back at Gapposo again. My friend told me she had such a great meal today and was so happy I found this place, which made me feel proud too! 🤍

The table at Gapposo after finishing the meal

With sushi, rice bowls, omakase, sets for two, and courses all on offer, and hours running from lunch to late evening, this place seems great for many purposes — office workers' lunch, dates, gatherings, even celebrations.

But above all, if two of you are visiting, I really want to recommend the sharing set for two, which comes fully loaded with kaisendon, unagidong, sashimi, karaage, and udon. Such a satisfying, delicious combination 👍🏻
