Late-night Byeongjeom coffee bar open till 1am: Baiden Coffee Bar

In short

Baiden Coffee Bar is a signless, black-toned coffee bar at 45 Byeongjeom3-ro in Hwaseong, Gyeonggi, open until 1am so you can have coffee or whiskey late at night. Arriving after 9pm, I ordered the Baiden Cream einspänner made with beans the owner roasts himself, a malt, and the house-made tiramisu and French toast. The smoky finish that rises behind the Baiden Cream and the crisp-outside, soft-inside French toast were good enough that I already plan to come back.

I've been wondering where to find a good-vibe, good-coffee café in Byeongjeom, and finally made it to Baiden Coffee Bar, a place I'd had bookmarked for a while.

A signless Byeongjeom coffee bar: the mood at 9pm

Exterior of the signless Baiden Coffee Bar

Baiden Coffee Bar has no sign outside, but it definitely has presence. I visited after 9pm this time, and the vibe was completely different from my earlier daytime visit.

The interior is calm and modern in all black tones. A movie was playing on a projector, and the faint sound of dialogue (in English, so it doesn't distract, haha) actually made it easier to focus on our own conversation.

Turns out there's more than just coffee — whiskey and cocktails too. They even have coffee whiskey, so there's plenty of variety to try.

Various coffee beans on display

There were all kinds of beans on display, and picking one looked like half the fun. Here's what I ordered!

These are beans the owner roasts in-house. There were so many varieties I had to take a photo. I honestly can't even imagine how good the hand-drip coffee must be... and the whiskey selection was huge too! The bar table itself had a lot of character.

How do the Baiden Cream einspänner and the malt taste?

Here it is — my life-changing coffee, and a sweet dessert on the side

Two cups of coffee on the table

One sip of the Baiden Cream and I was floored. It's an einspänner with soft cream sitting gently on a light drip coffee base. Clean and nutty, no heaviness at all. And then there's this smoky note — I don't know how else to describe it — that sneaks up at the very end like a little surprise. Wow, I've never had coffee like this in my life. Not even in Italy. Here I was thinking iced Americano was the only coffee that counted, and there's a place like this hiding in Byeongjeom. This is a spot where you can actually savor and feel coffee!!

The malt has a deeper flavor than a regular affogato, with the ice cream's mellow sweetness welcoming you in. Anyone who loves coffee is bound to love this.

Don't skip the tiramisu and French toast

Homemade tiramisu made by the owner

The tiramisu is a dessert the owner makes by hand with care! Not overly sweet, and it's the perfect size to enjoy lightly on your own. But seriously, don't skip the French toast!! Crisp on the outside, soft and moist on the inside — it melts in your mouth. So, so good, I could cry.
