Paju bakery café with milk pandoro and egg sandwich: Barirus

I stopped by Barirus with my mom during a day trip to Paju. There are lots of large cafés in Paju, but I wanted somewhere spacious where we could eat bread, drink coffee, and just take our time — and Barirus turned out to be so big and full of things to see that it was perfect for chatting with my mom for hours ~!

It's a bakery café that's been featured on various shows, and I'd also recommend it to anyone looking for a late-night spot in Paju since it's open until the early morning.

The giant sunset media photo zone at the entrance

The first thing that caught my eye walking into Barirus was the massive sunset media photo zone. A sunset scene fills the whole screen, and the scale of it right at the entrance made for really pretty photos.

Roomy seating and green views at Barirus

The seats at Barirus are spaced pretty generously, which made it comfortable to sit with my mom and talk for a long time. Maybe because it's summer, but the green scenery outside the window was really lovely too 🌿 I imagine the view would have a totally different feel once the weather cools down in autumn.

The 400-pyeong lawn terrace

Outside, Barirus has a lawn terrace that spans a whopping 400 pyeong. It gives off a glamping kind of vibe, and since it's an eco-friendly grass area, it's great for kids to run around in too. On a nice day, using both the indoor and outdoor spaces together makes for an even more relaxed visit.

Brunch, bakery and coffee on one menu

Barirus has a pretty wide menu too. With brunch, bakery items, and coffee all available, it works whether you just want a light dessert or a full meal with coffee. Since it's a late-night café open into the early hours, it's also convenient to visit whenever you like, without worrying about time.

Inside the bakery zone: what breads are on the shelves

When I went over to the bakery zone at Barirus, all kinds of bread were lined up on display. Looking through them one by one, there were so many types I couldn't decide what to pick. If you're a bread lover, just browsing the selection would already be fun.

A bakery café that bakes everything in house

Barirus is a handmade bakery café, and they say they prepare a wide range of items — from croissants made with AOP butter, to breads made with handmade cream, to bakery menu items made with health in mind.

Milk pandoro, 6,500 won

The milk pandoro at Barirus costs ₩6,500, and even the cream inside is handmade, apparently. The soft bread and sweet cream went really well together, and it was great paired with coffee.

Olive ciabatta at Barirus

I like plain, simple bread, so I also picked the olive ciabatta at Barirus. The chewy ciabatta with olives added made a nice combination when eaten alongside the sweeter breads.

The egg sandwich

I also picked an egg sandwich, good for a light meal. It had soft egg inside, so it felt like a proper brunch item, and paired with bread and coffee it made for a decent meal too.

Leftover bread? Wrap it at the self-service packing station

If you have bread left over while eating at Barirus, you can use the self-service packing station to wrap it up. We also packed up our leftovers to eat again at home.

And Barirus is open from 10am to 2am on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays and holidays! Since it's a late-night café that stays open into the early hours, it's a great spot whenever you feel like coffee or bakery items in Paju at a late hour.

Visiting with my mom, the spacious layout and variety of seating made it easy to spend a relaxed afternoon together, and being able to enjoy both bread and brunch in one visit made it a satisfying trip.
