Family Korean BBQ in Pungmu-dong, Gimpo: king pork ribs, Galbigumteo

In short

Galbigumteo Pungmu Station Branch is a Korean BBQ restaurant on Pungmu-ro in Gimpo, Gyeonggi, specialising in hand-cut king pork ribs made with domestic pork. Four adults and two children came with a Saturday evening reservation and ordered four servings of king pork ribs, then added pork ribs and beef short rib meat before finishing with water naengmyeon (cold noodles in broth) and bibim naengmyeon (spicy mixed cold noodles). The king pork ribs at Galbigumteo were tender enough that the 6-year-old ate more of them than the beef, which makes it an easy choice for a family meal with young children.

Main photo of Galbigumteo Pungmu Station Branch

We went to Galbigumteo with family for pork ribs on a Saturday evening. We booked a 6:30 PM reservation and visited with four adults and two kids.

We tried several kinds of meat, but the one both I and my 6-year-old ate the most of was the domestic hand-cut king pork ribs. What stuck with me was that my kid ate more king pork ribs than beef. For anyone looking for a good restaurant in Pungmu-dong, here's the location, menu, and how it actually tasted, with photos.

Inside, every table had its own ventilation system, and seating continued all the way to the back.

Long table seating for groups

There were also long tables where several people could sit together, which worked well for a family visit like ours.

We first ordered four servings of king pork ribs, then added regular pork ribs and beef short rib meat. After the meat, we finished with water naengmyeon and bibim naengmyeon.

How good are the domestic hand-cut king pork ribs?

Galbigumteo's origin label showed both the pork ribs and king pork ribs as domestically sourced. The hand-cut king pork ribs, which we were told are made in-house, were the standout item on the menu.

Since we were eating with a child, I naturally paid attention to the origin labeling. The origin label showed both the pork ribs and king pork ribs as domestically sourced.

Hand-cut king pork ribs, scored and marinated

The menu item Galbigumteo especially highlighted was the hand-cut king pork ribs, which we were told are made in-house. The large cuts had score marks and were evenly coated in marinade.

Each rib was so big you could tell its size at a glance even on the grill.

Lifting it up whole made the thickness and size of the king pork ribs even more obvious. Once cut into bite-sized pieces, the grill was completely covered in ribs.

Of everything I ate that day, the king pork ribs suited my taste the most. The meat was tender, too, so it was easy to eat.

Which dish the 6-year-old ate the most of

The menu item my 6-year-old ate the most of at Galbigumteo wasn't the beef short rib meat — it was the king pork ribs. Cut into bite-sized pieces, my kid kept happily eating them.

We ordered beef short rib meat too, but my 6-year-old ate more of the king pork ribs. Cut into bite-sized pieces, the pieces kept getting eaten up, and my kid ate far more of the king pork ribs than the beef. Going to a meat restaurant with a kid, I always worry the meat will be too tough, but this was tender enough to share comfortably.

We liked it so much we tried to order more king pork ribs, but that day's supply had already run out, so we couldn't get an extra order. Hearing that the Saturday evening supply was already gone made me think this is a place a lot of people seek out.

Unlike the king pork ribs, where the marinade takes the lead, the beef short rib meat let the natural flavor of the meat shine, with a savory richness that grew the more you chewed.

Self-serve side dish bar and finishing with water and bibim naengmyeon

Galbigumteo Pungmu Station Branch runs a self-serve side dish bar, so you can take as much as you need if the basic side dishes run low. There was also a warm stew at the self-serve bar.

If the basic side dishes run out, you can grab more from the self-serve bar as needed. It was convenient being able to pick only the side dishes you wanted.

There was also a warm stew, which we ate alongside the meat.

After the meat, we also ordered water naengmyeon. We were so busy eating that by the time we remembered to take a photo, it was already almost gone. Same with the bibim naengmyeon. The photos came a bit late, but we enjoyed both the water and bibim naengmyeon. Following the charcoal-grilled pork ribs with naengmyeon made for a great way to finish the meal.

The restaurant also had separate men's and women's restrooms.

Is Galbigumteo worth it for a family dinner with kids?

This was a Saturday evening family dinner with four adults and two kids. We tried several kinds of meat, but what stuck with me most was the domestic hand-cut king pork ribs. Unlike the king pork ribs, where the marinade takes the lead, the beef short rib meat let the natural flavor of the meat shine, with a savory richness that grew the more you chewed.

Trying the king pork ribs and beef short rib meat side by side let us enjoy two different flavors, and for our family, the domestic hand-cut king pork ribs were the most memorable dish.

The meat was tender enough that even my 6-year-old ate well, and finishing with both water and bibim naengmyeon rounded out the meal nicely. If you're looking for pork ribs to eat with kids in Gimpo, or a good restaurant in Pungmu-dong, Galbigumteo is worth considering.
