Omakase restaurant in Yeongdeungpo with allergy swaps: Sushi Hibi

In short

Sushi Hibi is a counter-seat omakase restaurant three minutes from Exit 4 of Yeongdeungpo-gu Office Station in Seoul. The ₩50,000 lunch course at Sushi Hibi ran from tamagodofu (egg tofu) through flounder sashimi, greater amberjack nigiri with yuzu wasabi, tuna belly nigiri, goto udon and strawberry sorbet, and a friend with a shrimp allergy had the sweet shrimp nigiri swapped for flounder. Easygoing enough that Sushi Hibi makes a good first omakase.

A dish from the Sushi Hibi omakase course

I love sushi but had never tried omakase before. When I heard there was an omakase spot near Yeongdeungpo-gu Office Station offering a ₩50,000 lunch course, I jumped at the chance and visited Sushi Hibi 🍣 The generous portions and, above all, the great taste made this a truly happy first omakase experience. Let me introduce Sushi Hibi :)

What Sushi Hibi looks like, outside and in

Exterior entrance of Sushi Hibi near Yeongdeungpo-gu Office Station

Sushi Hibi is a 3-minute walk from Yeongdeungpo-gu Office Station. I had a reservation for the first lunch seating (12:00–13:00), and I was let in 5 minutes early 🙌

The restaurant had a clean, quietly elegant atmosphere overall, with counter seats arranged around the chef.

There was a spot to store coats and bags, and the restroom inside was really clean too. It seems the place hasn't been open long, because everything felt fresh and tidy! ✨👏

What does the ₩50,000 lunch omakase include?

Sushi Hibi omakase pricing information

Lunch omakase is ₩50,000, and dinner omakase is ₩100,000. I went for the lunch course. Omakase prices have gotten pretty steep lately, so it can feel like a splurge, but Sushi Hibi was relatively easy on the wallet.

Counter seating in front of the chef during preparation

With omakase, the food matters, but so does watching it get made, right? haha Since the space is small with limited seating, it never felt crowded and I could really focus on the meal. Let me walk through the course dish by dish :)

The Sushi Hibi lunch course, dish by dish

Tamagodofu topped with pumpkin and shrimp

Tamagodofu (egg tofu)

🥚 Apparently this is chawanmushi shaped into a square, like tofu. The soft, moist egg custard came with sweet pumpkin and shrimp — warm yet light, and a great way to ease into the meal.

Sunomono with squid and seaweed

Sunomono (vinegared salad)

🥗 A dish of assorted seaweed, scallions, and squid with a tangy mustard sauce. The tartness really woke up my appetite.

Flounder sashimi served with salt

Flounder sashimi

The flounder sashimi came as two pieces, each meant to be eaten a different way. For the first, I dipped it in salt 🧂 to taste the flounder's own clean flavor. I'd never had sashimi with just salt before, and honestly... it was delicious! 👀 The flavor of the fish itself came through more, in a light, clean way.

Flounder sashimi served with soy sauce and wasabi

The other piece I had with soy sauce and wasabi. It was interesting how the same flounder tasted different depending on what I paired it with, haha.

Spanish mackerel yuan-yaki topped with a maple leaf garnish

Spanish mackerel yuan-yaki

The golden-grilled Spanish mackerel was incredibly soft and moist. (The chef kindly let us know the maple leaf was just decoration, not to be eaten, haha.) 🍁

Squid nigiri

🦑 Squid nigiri with a nice chewy texture that really came through.

Red seabream nigiri

🍣 Clean and light red seabream nigiri. Not overpowering, so you could really enjoy the fish's natural flavor — a great choice to start off the sushi.

Horse mackerel nigiri

🐟 Oh, this one was really something. The distinctive umami of horse mackerel paired with fragrant herb notes really brought out the flavor.

Sweet shrimp nigiri, and the swap for a shrimp allergy

🍤 My friend has a shrimp allergy, so she had flounder nigiri instead — and honestly I felt worse than she did that she couldn't taste this one, haha. It was that sweet and plump. 💕 Ah, and the chef asked before the course started whether anyone had food allergies, and if so, let you choose a substitute. You can also ask for less wasabi 👍

Greater amberjack nigiri with yuzu wasabi

🐟 Less oily and cleaner-tasting than regular yellowtail. The yuzu wasabi on top added a subtle citrus aroma and a bit of a kick, which really brought out the amberjack's clean flavor even more 😊 My personal best!

Greater amberjack nigiri topped with yuzu wasabi

Tuna belly nigiri

🍣 It had that rich umami like it had been marinated in soy sauce. This one melted in my mouth too, so good 💕 Another best! haha

Shime saba (cured mackerel)

🐟 I love mackerel sashimi, and this cured mackerel nigiri had absolutely no fishy taste, which made it even more satisfying :)

Anago (conger eel)

The softly cooked eel with a sweet-savory sauce just melted in my mouth!

Futomaki (thick sushi roll)

🍙 The last of the sushi course was futomaki, a thick roll letting you enjoy several ingredients at once! The generous bite packed with a mix of well-balanced fillings made for a satisfying end to the sushi course. On the left is my friend's piece, and I lucked into getting the end piece (?) ✨ You know the end piece, packed with the most filling, is the best part, right? 🤭 Lucky me, I got to eat it, haha.

Goto udon

🍜 After finishing the sushi, warm goto udon arrived. The noodles were thin and firm, which was different from what I'm used to. Maybe because it wasn't the usual thick, soft udon noodle, it felt fresh and new — I really liked the texture 🙌

Kyoku made with egg and shrimp

Tamago and strawberry sorbet

The kyoku is made by cooking egg together with shrimp, giving it a slightly different feel from a regular rolled omelet. It had a moist, soft texture with a subtle sweetness — a great way to wrap up before moving on to dessert. So wonderfully fluffy and soft ❤️

The very last dish was a refreshing strawberry sorbet 🍓 Cool and sweet-tart, it left my mouth feeling clean and refreshed 👏

Is Sushi Hibi a good first omakase? Final verdict

Sushi Hibi 🍣 was my first-ever omakase. With every dish, I felt a little sad it was over but curious what would come next. The chef was a great talker, explaining the ingredients and the best way to enjoy each dish as it came out, which made my first omakase experience even more fun 😊

Above all, every ingredient felt fresh, and for ₩50,000 at lunch, the course was packed — sashimi, grilled dishes, a variety of sushi, udon, and dessert. ₩50,000 isn't pocket change, but the quality made it feel worth it :) A great, low-pressure place to try omakase for the first time, just like I did. Sushi Hibi gave me and my friend a happy weekday afternoon at this Yeongdeungpo omakase sushi spot ❤️🍣✨

  • ✔ High-quality course with fresh ingredients and a wide variety of sushi
  • ✔ Good value at ₩50,000 for lunch omakase
  • ✔ A full course from sashimi and grilled fish to sushi, udon, and dessert
