Oterre Namyeong is a Yongsan hair salon about 5 minutes on foot from Namyeong Station Exit 1, located on the 3rd floor of 9-8 Wonhyoro 93-gil, Yongsan-gu, Seoul. It's open every day from 10 AM to 8 PM.

Fall's here, so it was about time to get my hair sorted out. Men's hair especially falls apart the moment the length gets even a little awkward — the sides start sticking out or the whole silhouette collapses — so a good cut alone can change your whole look. This time I was looking for a good spot for men's hair around Namyeong, Yongsan, and ended up at Oterre Namyeong, a barbershop-style Yongsan hair salon near Namyeong Station. It felt more natural than a barbershop but more private and special than a regular hair salon.

I looked at what hairstyle I wanted beforehand, and it had a good vibe!

Inside Oterre Namyeong: European vintage, softer than a barbershop

Oterre Namyeong isn't a clean white-toned salon — it's a space full of wood furniture and vintage props. Spacious, cozy, and full of character, it had real atmosphere!

It has that European vintage, European home feel, and each seat carries its own stylist's personal touch, which I loved haha. Also, being more natural than a barbershop, it felt less intimidating. Good point.

But it's still a 1:1 designer appointment system, so you get a pretty private service. And the spacing between the service chairs was reeeally far apart, so I barely crossed paths with other customers — very comfortable.

The men's cut: balancing the sides and the top

This cut at Oterre Namyeong wasn't a huge style change — the direction was to keep my existing hair shape while trimming everything neatly overall. Every stylist really does cut with a different feel, you know? But here, they cut it really sharp and well. Their sense for balancing the sides and top to fit my face shape and head shape was excellent!

The conversation was also witty and easygoing, never awkward, so it was fun.

The cutting time was really short too — styling was done in just 20-30 minutes. They shampooed twice and cut carefully, yet their hands were super fast. After everything was finished, the overall head shape line felt much cleaner.

How the spray-only finish held up, with no wax or mousse

At Oterre Namyeong they didn't use mousse or wax, finishing the styling with only hair spray, and I really liked it. It tidied up the side line neatly while connecting naturally to the top, so the shape looked good not just from the front but from the side too.

With the area around the ears and sideburns cleaned up neatly, the whole impression became much more polished. It's a style that's easy to wear without much fuss, even for office workers or people who don't usually style their hair much. The basic shape stays in place day to day, so even a quick blow-dry in the morning looks fine. They also gave me styling tips, which I really appreciated.
