Busan Korean restaurant for family galbitang: Gang Galbitang Seomyeon

In short

Gang Galbitang Seomyeon is a Korean restaurant in Busanjin, Busan, serving galbitang and galbi-gukbap. We tried full-topping galbitang with Jeju-style noodles and brisket, plus spicy galbi-gukbap, then bought royal galbitang to take home ourselves. Verdict: a deeply comforting family meal with exceptionally tender ribs.

Our family's all-time favorite galbitang in Seomyeon

This is our family's all-time favorite galbitang (beef short-rib soup) spot. It's so good that we buy 10 meal kits at a time with our own money—so yes, it really is a great restaurant, haha. Just try one spoonful of the broth; seriously, you'll be surprised. Every side dish is prepared with such care that I could see why people call it a Seomyeon favorite. If you're looking for galbitang in Busan, keep this place in mind, haha.

We used the nearby Blue Parking lot. They gave us a 30-minute discount voucher, so even though this is Seomyeon, parking was easy and the fee became super affordable. There were dozens of boxes stacked outside the restaurant, probably because there were so many meal-kit takeaway orders. They kept sending them out by courier—I could really feel how popular they are, haha.

Today's picks: full-topping galbitang and spicy galbi-gukbap

Full-topping galbitang and spicy galbi-gukbap

Today's choices were full-topping galbitang and spicy galbi-gukbap (beef rib soup with rice). Full toppings means classic galbitang with Jeju-style medium-thick noodles and brisket added. I seriously love this combination!!! The bowl looks incredibly abundant, too. The clean broth soaks into the Jeju noodles, and the savory flavor is no joke~!!

The ribs practically melt in your mouth to begin with, but having them with the light, clean flavor of the brisket makes the texture even more wonderful~~!! The meat comes away from the ribs so softly, with absolutely no toughness, haha. The broth is clear but deeply flavored. It is centered on gentle, savory flavor with none of that overly salty punch.

Chinese artichokes and kkakdugi (cubed radish kimchi)... seriously so delicious. We ate lots of the Chinese artichokes too, since people say they're good for dementia.

Huge ribs, brisket, medium-thick noodles, and even a mini ginseng root.... This is truly the ultimate restorative meal. If you're craving something nourishing, head to Gang Galbitang Seomyeon~~!

Galbitang with ribs, brisket, and medium-thick noodles

The noodles have such a great texture once they soak up the broth. Adding brisket seems to bring out the meat aroma even more. I really think you have to order the full toppings, haha. The classic galbitang is already delicious, but going full-topping definitely maximizes the flavor! The owner must have done a lot of research, seriously.

Meaty galbitang ribs

Can you see all that rib meat?? This is honestly the first galbitang place I've found that gives you this much. The bones are this thick, too. Maybe that is where the flavor comes from, because the broth is so deep. It is practically medicinal-herbal-soup level. Yet the flavor is clean, refined, and deeply savory, haha.

A meal that feels easy to share with a baby

If you come with a baby, cut up the medium-thick noodles and brisket and they eat it so well, haha. We went with a baby, mixed rice into the broth, and they ate happily. It is an easy choice for dining out with children. It is not too strongly seasoned, so it is perfect for a family meal.

It was my first time trying galbi-gukbap, and it turns out it contains brisket rather than ribs? Trying it this way is such amazing value, too. I recommend it, haha.

So in the end, we even bought royal galbitang to take home with our own money. It was a flavor I genuinely remembered enough to want again at home. It was the best galbitang I have had in Busan, seriously! A place in Seomyeon with easy parking, a baby chair, food that is good for babies, and great flavor and prices... isn't that perfect? I think of it especially in cold winter. Of course it is delicious in summer too, but it feels even more fitting in winter, haha. It is our family's favorite food.

Final thoughts

Gang Galbitang Seomyeon is a memorable Seomyeon restaurant for its thoughtfully prepared bowl. The broth, meat, and side dishes are all well balanced.

  • Ribs with a melt-in-your-mouth texture
  • Jeju-style medium-thick noodles are an essential add-on
  • A popular spot for meal-kit takeaway
  • A great Seomyeon restaurant to visit with babies and children

I am absolutely sure I will return!!
