Chinese restaurant near IKEA Goyang for jjamjjamyeon and tangsuyuk

In short

Jjamppong Jijeon Seooreung Branch is a Chinese restaurant on Seooreung-ro in Deogyang-gu, Goyang, Gyeonggi, about 10-12 minutes by car from IKEA Goyang. Arriving right at opening on a weekday before the IKEA run, the writer ordered mild-spice jjamppong rice (spicy seafood noodle soup served with rice), jjamjjamyeon (half jjamppong, half jjajangmyeon), a small glutinous-batter tangsuyuk (sweet and sour pork), and a taster plate of four fried mandu (dumplings). The smoky broth, the tangsuyuk that stayed crisp even with the sauce poured over, and a self-serve bar with baby spoons, forks and unlimited rice make Jjamppong Jijeon Seooreung Branch an easy family stop on an IKEA Goyang day.

Jjamppong Jijeon Seooreung Branch: a Seooreung lunch stop near IKEA Goyang

Jjamppong Jijeon Seooreung Branch is a Chinese restaurant at 424 Seooreung-ro, Deogyang-gu, Goyang-si, Gyeonggi-do, about 10-12 minutes by car from IKEA Goyang. Meal timing on IKEA days is always a bit awkward. You can eat inside the store, but once shopping starts, time just flies by, so this time we decided to eat properly on the way there instead.

So we went looking and ended up at Jjamppong Jijeon Seooreung Branch. We stopped by on our way to IKEA Goyang, and since it really is only a 10-12 minute detour, it works well as a restaurant near IKEA Goyang. We ordered jjamjjamyeon (half-jjajangmyeon, half-jjamppong), jjamppong rice, tangsuyuk, and a taster portion of fried mandu, and each dish had a pretty clear strong point.

The inside is pretty spacious too. Since it was a weekday opening run, we were the first ones in, but there were quite a few solo diners coming in and the place got busy.

Spice levels at Jjamppong Jijeon and what we ordered

Jjamppong Jijeon Seooreung Branch lets you choose your spice level. Even level 1 is already 1.5 times spicier than Shin Ramyun, haha, so since this was our first meal of the day, we went with mild jjamppong rice and jjamjjamyeon, a small glutinous tangsuyuk, and a taster portion of 4 fried mandu (which I'm reviewing for a Naver receipt review).

Baby spoons, unlimited rice and the self-serve bar

Jjamppong Jijeon Seooreung Branch has a well-put-together self-serve bar. Basic side dishes like pickled radish, onion, and kimchi are all help-yourself, plus there's cheongyang chili and sukdu (blanched bean sprouts). Rice is unlimited too.

One nice touch: baby spoons and forks are set out separately at the self-serve bar. When your kid keeps dropping their spoon, it's kind of awkward to keep asking for another one, haha. There were even hair ties for customers with long hair. It seems like such a small thing, but little touches like this make a family meal so much easier. I really appreciated the owner's thoughtfulness here.

How spicy and smoky is the jjamppong broth?

This time at Jjamppong Jijeon Seooreung Branch we had jjamjjamyeon, jjamppong rice, tangsuyuk, and a taster portion of fried mandu. The mild spice level suited me perfectly, and the broth hit with a burst of smoky wok flavor from the first spoonful, followed by a sharp heat. It wasn't just spicy — there was real savoriness backing it up, so my spoon kept going back in.

Jjamjjamyeon lets you have both jjajangmyeon and jjamppong, so it's always the easiest choice when you don't want to give up on either dish, haha. The jjamppong rice, with rice mixed into the broth, was also really filling.

Glutinous tangsuyuk with the sauce poured on, still crisp

The tangsuyuk was satisfying too. The sauce came pre-poured over it, yet the crispy texture of the batter held up surprisingly well. I'm the type who likes sauce-poured tangsuyuk as long as the crispiness survives, so this one was a hit for me.

The taster fried mandu wasn't your typical plain fried dumpling either. It was filled with spicy seasoned glass noodles, which paired really well with the jjamppong, and it was a light, easy side to add on.

Why Jjamppong Jijeon pairs well with an IKEA Goyang trip

We stopped at Jjamppong Jijeon Seooreung Branch on our way to IKEA Goyang. Once shopping starts, it often gets unclear when you'll actually eat, so eating a proper meal first and heading over afterward turned out to be much more convenient.

If you're looking for a restaurant near IKEA Goyang for a family outing in particular, the menu range here is pretty solid. Beyond jjamppong, there's jjajangmyeon, fried rice, tangsuyuk, and mandu, so there are options even if someone in the family can't handle spicy food.

Personally, the jjamppong broth with its smoky heat and kick, and the tangsuyuk that stayed crispy despite the sauce, were what stuck with me most. There's a reason it's known as a Seooreung restaurant and Goyang restaurant. The self-serve bar was impressive too, right down to the baby dishes, unlimited rice, and hair ties.

If you're near IKEA Goyang looking for a restaurant and craving Chinese food, Jjamppong Jijeon Seooreung Branch is worth pairing with your shopping trip, before or after. I'd probably go with the jjamppong plus tangsuyuk combo again next time — when you go to a Chinese restaurant, are you team jjamppong or team jjajangmyeon?
