When you need coffee and dessert midway through shopping

When I shop at Songhyeon-a, I always need a moment in the middle to sit down with a coffee. Personally, I prefer cafés where I can enjoy dessert as well as good coffee. Especially on days when I’m out with my baby, rather than sitting somewhere for ages, it feels just right to pop in midway through shopping for a delicious coffee and dessert—and Wunder Coffee Bar seemed great for exactly that.

It had been so famous at its Bucheon flagship store that I’d been curious about it for ages, and now it has opened at Songdo Hyundai Outlet too. I was genuinely so happy!!

Wunder Coffee Bar at Songdo Hyundai Outlet is known for its affogato, ice cream, and kaymak (clotted cream). Looking at the menu, there were more things I wanted to try than I expected, from coffee to ice cream and affogato. Normally I would have made sure to try the kaymak too, but I was out with my baby that day and needed to sort out a meal as well haha. So I didn’t get too ambitious and focused on coffee and ice cream.

Wunder Coffee Bar doesn’t have dedicated tables of its own, but you can freely enjoy your coffee at the tables in Songdo Hyundai Outlet’s Food Square, so it felt easy and low-pressure. The Songdo branch also had set menus like these!

I took forever choosing because not only was the coffee supposed to be good, but the ice cream and Einspänner-style drinks were apparently excellent too. Still, I had to try Wunder Coffee Bar’s signature drinks! So I ordered an Americano, a Wunder Coffee, and one cup of soft ice cream.

My husband tried Wunder Coffee Bar’s Americano and exclaimed that it had such a deep, nutty flavor. I think that must be thanks to Noche, Wunder Coffee Bar’s signature blend. Once we finish the beans at home, I thought we should buy some. They even have decaf beans—those are for me~~ The neat packaging also made me think they would make a lovely Chuseok gift from Songhyeon-a.

You can choose the size of Wunder Coffee Bar’s ice cream. I ordered mine in a cup, but if I hadn’t had my baby with me, I would have gone for a cone. Sob sob.

The hojicha ice cream I had missed

One reason I came to love Wunder Coffee Bar is its hojicha (roasted green tea). I had tried hojicha once in Kyoto and hadn’t had it again since, so I really missed it. When I first tried Wunder Coffee Bar’s hojicha ice cream, I was honestly blown away. It is intensely toasty and nutty, with sweetness arriving at the end!

At Wunder Coffee Bar in Songdo Hyundai Outlet, a pager lets you know when your order is ready. Here are my husband’s Americano, my decaf Wunder Coffee, and the vanilla and hojicha mixed ice cream.

Because we were short on time with the baby that day, we ended up having our meal and coffee set down together. But the coffee at Wunder Coffee Bar in Songhyeon-a was so good that I remember pushing aside the food in front of me and sipping the coffee first.

My husband took one sip of the Americano and said it was nutty and deep, and he liked it quite a lot. I tried a sip too, and the nutty notes lingered subtly. It was an Americano that felt gentle even before a meal.

Signature Wunder Coffee with rich, chewy cream

Wunder Coffee Bar’s signature Einspänner, Wunder Coffee, was a sweet milk-based cream coffee made with the café’s own house-made sauce. I always enjoy a sweet latte, but even I find it hard to handle something that is sweet with no balance at all.

Wunder Coffee Bar’s Wunder Latte brought together coffee, rich chewy cream, and milk in perfect harmony, making it feel like a truly refined latte. I thought, wow, something amazing has arrived at the Songhyeon-a café scene! And then there was Wunder Coffee Bar’s soft ice cream, which I absolutely can’t leave out.

There is also Wunder Gato, which you can enjoy as an affogato. If I hadn’t ordered Wunder Coffee, I probably would have chosen Wunder Gato too. But today, it was hojicha and vanilla mixed! Even though it was soft ice cream, it had a delightfully chewy texture, so I could savor Wunder Coffee Bar’s ice cream nice and slowly.

Honestly, there hadn’t been an ice cream place at Songhyeon-a that made me think, this is it! But I think Wunder Coffee Bar may fill that spot. The hojicha is special without question, and the vanilla ice cream was so refined, with a depth that adults as well as children would enjoy.

Even the little chocolate chips scattered throughout Wunder Coffee Bar’s ice cream felt like a treat.

A short break while shopping with a baby

Shopping at Songdo Hyundai Outlet is exactly the kind of thing that can leave your energy crashing, but many of the desserts at Songhyeon-a are not easy to eat quickly, which can be a bit tricky. At times like that, a bite of this Wunder Coffee Bar ice cream would be just perfect. Personally, it was one of the most grown-up-tasting ice creams I’ve had recently.

I thought Wunder Coffee Bar at Songdo Hyundai Outlet was a great place to stop briefly when you want a break while shopping at Songhyeon-a. Rather than spending a long time in a separate café space, you can use the Food Square tables, which makes it easy to order a coffee or ice cream in the middle of shopping without any fuss. Especially if you are visiting with a child like I was, it also feels convenient to have a meal and dessert in one place. The coffee and ice cream were both so delicious, and I’m even more curious about Wunder Coffee Bar’s kaymak now, so I am definitely coming back! haha
