I was out running errands in Bundang one day and needed a late lunch, so I went looking for a solo-dining spot in Pangyo — and found Katsu Shokudo Pangyo Main Branch, a tonkatsu place near Pangyo Station with no weekday break time ✨

They've been Blue Ribbon-listed every single year since 2020.. so cool 💙

Since it's near Hyundai Department Store Pangyo, parking can get pricey, but if you park in Alphadom Tower and eat here, you get 🅿️ 3 hours free parking support.

2pm on a weekday, a late lunch with no break time

I visited at 2pm on a weekday, figuring the place would be quieter once the office lunch crowd had cleared out. Apparently it's such a famous lunch spot for Pangyo office workers that there's usually a wait, but since there's no break time, a late lunch is totally possible! (Note: there is a weekend break time, 15:30–17:00.)

There's a dachi bar, so solo dining even during peak hours shouldn't feel awkward — definitely recommended for solo diners in Pangyo ❗️ They also have baby chairs, so it could be a good pick for anyone looking for a kid-friendly restaurant in Pangyo too.

What I ordered

This tonkatsu spot near Pangyo Station has all kinds of menu items, from daily specials to two-person sets and kids' sets! There were so many options I had to think about what to get, and I ended up choosing the mozzarella cheese katsu set! Katsu Shokudo's set menu lets you pick either udon or cold soba, so I went with mini udon, and added a mini curry and one extra piece of tenderloin katsu as sides 🐷

Ordering via table order

They have Terra draft beer (500ml) and a one-sip beer (200ml), so I did consider having a beer with my tonkatsu, but I thought — let's drink a little less, even on days like this..^^ — and ordered a Zero Coke instead! I love a place that gives you a glass of ice with your drink~~ 🥤

With the mini curry and one extra piece of tenderloin katsu added to the mozzarella cheese katsu set (katsu + rice + salad + mini udon), my solo lunch table ended up looking pretty plentiful ☺️

What's on the table

On the table there's Himalayan pink salt, shichimi (Japanese seven-spice), and — a nice touch — a hair tie and dental floss. Wasabi and sauce come plated as standard, and you just take as much Himalayan pink salt as you want!

How does the mozzarella cheese katsu taste?

The mozzarella cheese katsu comes with a whole block of mozzarella cheese inside, and apparently Katsu Shokudo uses a patented low-temperature yuzu aging process that makes the tonkatsu soft and flavorful! For my first bite I tried the katsu plain, without sauce, and the subtle yuzu aroma along with the crispy batter and juicy meat made me feel like I'd found a real tonkatsu spot worth the trip to Pangyo 🍋

Look at all that juice and soft cheese inside the katsu.. 🧀 Mozzarella cheese is only really good when it stretches long and pulls

Mini udon included with the set
Mini udon

The mini udon isn't actually mini

It's called mini udon, but the size is not mini at all 🫪 — it was a pretty generous portion.

The noodles were chewy and the broth was really clean, spot on! I saw some reviews saying the udon was bland, but I actually liked it — the broth wasn't sweet or salty, just clean-tasting 🍜

Added just one piece of tenderloin katsu as a side

I saw a lot of reviews of the tenderloin katsu and pork loin katsu and went back and forth, but since you can order just one piece of tenderloin katsu as a side, I added it on.

One extra piece of tenderloin katsu ordered as a side

The soft hire (tenderloin) katsu is best dipped in salt — it's clean and nutty, and you can really taste the tenderloin flavor more that way 👍

White rice with added mini curry

Dipping the plain white rice thick into the added mini curry, yum. The tonkatsu was also tasty dipped into the curry like a sauce.

Summary

Katsu Shokudo Pangyo Main Branch, a Blue Ribbon tonkatsu restaurant near Pangyo Station — I'd recommend it as a great solo lunch spot in Pangyo, and also as a nice date spot in Pangyo 🙌
