Gamjatang with house special sauce in Gimhae Yulha: Ppyeodae Itneun

In short

Ppyeodae Itneun Haejangguk Gamjatang Yulha Branch is a gamjatang (pork bone stew) and haejangguk (hangover soup) restaurant on Yulha 7-ro in Gimhae, Gyeongnam, where dumpling dough, glass noodles, ramyeon, potato and jorangi rice cake add-ins come with unlimited refills. After first falling for the gosari (bracken fern) gamjatang here while pregnant, the writer returned with her husband and dipped the pork in the restaurant's own special sauce instead of the usual wasabi sauce, plus a complimentary cold jokbal (pig's trotters) side and a slushie after the meal. The broth was rich and the meat slipped straight off the bone, making Ppyeodae Itneun a place she would happily bring her hard-to-please parents.

I posted a review of Ppyeodae Itneun gamjatang on my blog quite a while ago after eating there and loving it, and this time I got the chance to go again!

Why this couple went back to Ppyeodae Itneun Haejangguk Gamjatang in Gimhae Yulha

The Yulha branch of Ppyeodae Itneun Haejangguk Gamjatang is huge!! Last time I went, I remember seeing a menu item called gosari (bracken fern) gamjatang and thinking, oh? How unusual, there's a gamjatang like this too! Back then I was pregnant and hunting for a good gamjatang place hahaha.

Unlimited add-in refills and a slushie after the meal

Here the add-ins are unlimited refills, and honestly there's not a single one I don't like — dumpling add-in, glass noodle add-in, ramyeon add-in, potato, jorangi rice cake, and more, just full of things I love. And on top of that, after you finish eating, they even give you a slushie... what a nice touch ❤️ You know how having a slushie after gamjatang just makes everything settle down perfectly? It's genuinely so refreshing and delicious hahaha. If you come here, definitely finish your meal and have one on the way out!

The owner really seems to have a talent for cooking — the side dishes and the broth were just exactly my style! Haha. The owner was there that day too, and was working really hard.

What are the side dishes and cleanliness like at Ppyeodae Itneun?

The side dishes and kimchi suited my taste perfectly! And the restaurant itself clearly pays a lot of attention to hygiene and feels clean, unchanged from back then to now, which made me like it even more. Personally, the clean hygiene was what I liked most, and I fell in love with the taste all over again.

I love dumpling and glass noodle add-ins so much that I always used to order extras elsewhere, so it was so nice that here you can just help yourself as much as you want. Honestly, at other places if you order or add one serving of add-ins, they give you a palm-sized portion for ₩3,000, but here you can take as much as you want to eat, and that's the part I loved! Hahaha. I always add extra add-ins when I go to a gamjatang place anyway, so being able to pick and choose whatever I want made me so happy ❤️

The broth, the pork and the house special sauce

Still clean-tasting, delicious, and great. The broth itself is rich and the meat is so tender it falls off the bone. The seasoning was deep and matched the dried radish greens and the meat perfectly, and instead of the usual wasabi sauce most gamjatang places have, this place seems to make its own special sauce — and dipping the meat in it is so delicious and pairs so well?!

It was delicious enough that I thought I should bring my mom and dad next time — honestly, my parents are picky eaters and rarely eat out; whenever they want something, since my mom is a great cook, they always just make it at home. But this is a taste they'd like even if I brought them here. My mom actually ran a big haejangguk restaurant in Jeju when I was a baby. She said customers never stopped coming. She always says that's when she was raking in money, so I was raised during her rich era, haha haha. Even now, my mom's haejangguk beats any gamjatang or haejangguk restaurant out there?!.. But Ppyeodae Itneun gamjatang was as delicious as my mom's gamjatang ❤️ haha.

This is a place I've revisited many times, and it's a place I'll keep revisiting again and again and again. It suited my taste exactly! My husband scraped his rice bowl clean and ate all the meat too hahaha. We both felt like we'd burst but couldn't stop — we basically finished even the broth before leaving haha;

The complimentary cold jokbal (pig's trotters)

And the owner's thoughtfulness, honestly, so touching ❤️ I was grateful to get to taste something this delicious as a free extra. It's truly chewy through and through, and it freshens up your mouth and brings your appetite right back. So I ate this, then ate the gamjatang, and basically filmed a full mukbang. By the end I ate so much my ribs hurt hahaha ❤️

And since the owner looked so young, I asked their secret, and they said they eat a lot of collagen hahaha! I should try that too. Setting everything else aside, it was as delicious as the cold jokbal itself. Nothing on the menu was bad, and it's the kind of taste that makes you want to come back once you visit! If you live in Yulha or Gimhae, I really think you should visit at least once!
