I visited with my husband right before Chuseok and ordered the 2-person premium set. The price was ₩46,700. It was a well-balanced set that let us eat plenty of both seafood and meat.

Description of Karen's 2-person premium set

I was craving something delicious right before Chuseok so I overate a bit, but there are plenty of solo dining options too, making Karen Lotte Department Store Busan Main Branch perfect for eating alone as well.

What comes with the set: side dishes first

The place was absolutely packed. With the holidays approaching, everyone seemed to be out shopping at the department store. There was a mix of solo diners, families, and couples out with their babies. The set menu comes as a full table spread, and it's already delicious just looking at it!

They brought out black sesame cabbage salad and stir-fried mung bean sprouts right away. This was my second visit to Karen — last time I sat right in front of the griddle and got to watch the flashy teppan show of this 40-year Taiwanese-style teppanyaki restaurant, but this time someone else was cooking at the table next to mine, so I couldn't get the prettiest shots! Still, the crowd was proof of how popular it is.

The rice portion is generous too, so I always wonder if I'll manage to finish it. The soup was seaweed and egg soup, and I thought, huh, do seaweed and egg even go together? But it turned out salty and light and refreshing, a perfect match for the teppanyaki.

The stir-fried onions and pickled carrots felt a bit like a rapé — tangy like danmuji (pickled radish) — and paired really well with the meat.

Honestly this spread alone could disappear fast, but let's wait for the delicious scallops, cuttlefish, and meat.

Can you bring a baby? Baby chairs at Karen

Karen Lotte Department Store Busan Main Branch has tons of baby chairs, so it's perfect for families and for outings with a baby too.

I was so hungry I dove straight into the cabbage salad. Every side dish came in just the right portion, so I was satisfied being able to try a wider variety.

Scallops and cuttlefish on the teppan

The fluffy cuttlefish and scallops just melt away when you eat them fresh and hot. I'm not usually a fan of squid or cuttlefish, but Karen's teppan-fried cuttlefish is genuinely soft and not chewy at all, so I loved it.

The scallops and cuttlefish come with chili sauce and wasabi sauce, so you can dip according to your taste — the chili sauce goes especially well with the cuttlefish, highly recommend.

Premium short rib and flat iron steak

Next, the premium short rib and flat iron steak came out separately — one plate of each — so share nicely with your partner.

Once the premium short rib arrived, the whole spread looked even more lavish.

It comes with a sweetish steak sauce, wasabi, and garlic flakes.

Steak sauce, wasabi, and garlic flakes

First I just tried it plain. It's already seasoned with salt so it's tasty on its own, but dipping it in the sauce gave it a whole different vibe.

Eating it with the bean sprouts, nom nom. Crunchy texture plus meat is always a win.

I dipped it generously in the steak sauce and wasabi and mixed it with the crispy garlic flakes. The nuttiness and the burst of juices make it a flavor anyone, any age, would love.

My husband's favorite: stir-fried tomato and egg

My husband's absolute favorite, tomato and egg stir-fry. I can never get it to taste this good at home — Karen must have some secret sauce, because my husband loves it so much. Apparently heating tomatoes makes them even healthier, so it's a double win of protein and health!

It's so good you might catch me scooping it up spoonful after spoonful.

Honestly... there was so much meat that I didn't even realize the two cuts were on separate plates, haha. There was so much of it — my husband noticed halfway through, and since we were so hungry we'd just been inhaling one plate, we finally switched to share both, lol.

Why Karen works as a meal break while shopping at Lotte

Grilling meat yourself usually takes a lot of effort, but with teppanyaki the chef cooks everything right in front of you, so all you have to do is eat neatly — that's what makes Karen so easy to visit. And unlike grilling your own meat, your clothes won't end up smelling, so it's easy to finish a meal and head right back out.

If you're shopping at Lotte in Seomyeon and mealtime rolls around, Karen is a great pick — for solo dining, family meals, or date nights alike!
