Busan curry restaurant with ramune and loft floor seats: Sarugak20

In short

Sarugak20 is a Japanese-style curry restaurant on the basement level in Jeonpo, Busanjin, Busan, across from the Jeonpo Community Center. On a weekend visit at 2pm with no wait, the order was half-and-half curry with a sausage add-on, the beef special curry and a bottle of ramune: the cream curry is not heavy and the beef curry is lightly spicy, so the two work well eaten in turns. With sunlit wooden tables, a loft floor-seating nook and pets allowed, Sarugak20 is an easy pick for a light lunch in Jeonpo.

Main photo of Sarugak20, a curry restaurant in Jeonpo

Trying to figure out what to eat for weekend lunch, I suddenly craved curry after a long while and headed to Sarugak20. If you've had curry in Jeonpo before, do you remember the once-famous Moru Sikdang..? I used to love that place back in the day, and knowing Sarugak20 carries on that same spirit made me extra happy to visit. haha

Honestly, if you search for curry restaurants in Jeonpo, Busan, there are quite a few options. But this place kept a faint trace of that atmosphere I used to love, on top of good curry, so as soon as it came to mind I decided it would be my weekend lunch spot .

Where is Sarugak20, and what is the basement space like?

Sarugak20 sits in the basement across from the Jeonpo Community Center. Since you have to go down stairs, I expected a slightly dark space at first — but nope.

Natural light filling Sarugak20's interior

Natural light pours in quite deeply through the windows, so in the afternoon the whole space looks warm.

Wooden tables, mismatched chairs, an old clock, a big speaker, basket-like props . . . the space feels really cozy! Rather than looking like a bunch of things were brought in and staged, it felt naturally filled with objects collected over a long time, so it was fun taking photos too.

Window seats and the loft floor-seating nook at Sarugak20

The window seats especially get pretty sunlight, which looked great for a slow solo meal too. There's a counter, regular tables, a 6-person table, tachi seats, and even a small loft-like area where you sit on the floor.

When I walked in, even that loft spot was occupied, but it happened to be empty when I was leaving, so I got one photo in — success. haha How does everyone know to come early..? Please tell me your secrets too ~ ! Among people looking for lunch spots in Jeonpo, it seems this place is already well known.

And it was quietly a great spot for water too haha — one side has green tea, the other a lightly lemoned water, so you can pour whichever suits your taste .

Sink decorated with a wood countertop and lighting

Even the sink was too nice to skip over haha — a wood countertop, lighting, little props, all carrying the same distinct taste of the space.

What comes with a curry order at Sarugak20

  • Half-and-half curry + sausage add-on
  • Special curry
  • Ramune

For anyone who can't decide on just one curry, the half-and-half curry is quite an appealing choice from the start. I was secretly hoping it would remind me of Moru Sikdang's signature soft curry, which I used to love.

Half-and-half curry: cream curry vs beef curry

A plate of Sarugak20's half-and-half curry
Half-and-half curry with rice down the middle

The visual alone is cute — rice laid lengthwise down the middle of the plate with two different curries on either side. The cream curry, one side, wasn't the least bit greasy or heavy on my palate, contrary to what I expected, so my spoon kept going back for more. It was smooth and savory, but being 'cream' didn't mean it sat heavy in the mouth — easy to scoop up with rice.

The beef curry on the other side, with finely chopped meat you could actually bite into, tasted more distinct than the cream curry. It also had a bit of a kick, so switching over to that side felt just right. Eventually I ended up knocking down the rice in the middle and going back and forth between left and right. lol

Sausage add-on on the half-and-half curry

I also added sausage, and does curry with sausage really need explaining? Yum.

My friend's special curry came with soft egg topping over the rice plus sausage on the side, making for a quite hearty-looking plate. With cheese mixed into the curry too, scooping it up with rice and watching it stretch out was a nice touch.

Ramune, the Japanese marble soda

We also ordered a ramune to share, and sipping it between bites of curry left my mouth feeling refreshed . The bottle shape alone made it feel like I was on a trip to Japan, and pairing it with this menu matched the vibe perfectly haha

Pets, waiting times and parking at Sarugak20

And personally, the thing I was happiest about . . . Sarugak20 is pet-friendly . Being able to bring my dog Otte to such a stylish curry spot in Jeonpo-dong.. this time it was just the two of us, but next time I'd love to sit in the loft area with Otte.

Sarugak20's quiet dining hall at 2pm

Weekend lunch peak hours can get crowded, but we visited around 2pm and got seated without any wait. Parking in front of the restaurant is tough, so if you're driving, using a nearby public parking lot would probably be easier.

Sunlit wooden table seating

If you remember the Moru Sikdang you used to love, you'll probably eat at Sarugak20 with a little bit of that same warm feeling. The curry was still very much my style, but sitting at the sunlit wooden table and slowly enjoying a meal is what stuck with me more. On a day I want a not-too-heavy lunch in Jeonpo, I think I'll be thinking of this place again. Next time, I'm bringing Otte along on a trip to Sarugak20 in Jeonpo ~ .
