I went to Sanseong Sikyukjeom Jeonpo Direct Store, a well-known restaurant near Jeonpo Station. Fun fact: my husband and I had actually been here before, and it's a true, TRUE favorite!

What's on the menu and how the sets are composed

Sanseong Sikyukjeom carries on the name of a butcher shop that the owner's parents ran in the Buk-gu area of Busan, but it's been reborn with a more detailed, differentiated way of cutting and serving pork.

They're currently running a Suntory Premium Malt 3+1 promotion!

  • a. Nuruk pork neck 200g + pork belly 200g + premium cuts 100g, ₩54,000
  • b. Nuruk pork neck 300g + pork belly 300g + premium cuts 100g, ₩74,000
  • c. Nuruk pork neck 350g + pork belly 350g + premium cuts 200g, ₩97,000

They have set menus ready so you can try a good variety of cuts all at once.

Umi-nam x Sanseong Sikyukjeom collab hanwoo (Korean beef). They also sell hanwoo, with 1++ sirloin going for ₩25,000 per 100g.

If the set isn't enough, you can order extras too — yukhoe (raw beef tartare), pork skin, gabrisal (skirt meat), and more, all available.

The food menu is really varied too — freshwater shrimp doenjang stew (soybean paste stew), doenjang hot pot rice, kimchi stew, savory cheese perilla oil makguksu (cold buckwheat noodles), milmyeon (cold wheat noodles), even instant Paldo Bibimmyeon for one and a half — all kinds of noodles and rice dishes are ready, so you can pick whatever you're in the mood for.

They also have Suntory Premium draft beer, Heineken non-alcoholic, and highballs.

So many sauces and side dishes, you never get sick of it

Fresh cut kimchi.

There are really so many sauce options that you never get tired of eating from start to finish. Nuruk pickled chili paste, wasabi, salted hairtail intestines, nuruk ssamjang (dipping sauce), herring roe jeotgal (salted seafood), and shiitake wasabi. You can just pick and choose based on your taste.

White kimchi, dried radish strips. Mayo-negi truffle? It's tossed in a thick mayo and the umami is insane. There were also lots of pickled side dishes like pickled chili paste and gungchae (Korean aster stems).

There are two kinds of salt — nuruk salt and Gijang seaweed salt. I always think the eternal classic way to eat pork belly is dipping it deep in salt, and this place really commits to the salt details too — a true pork belly favorite.

The 3-person B set — staff grill everything for you

There were three of us, so we ordered the recommended B set for three.

Plate of raw meat for the recommended B set for three

Garlic scapes and garlic come out together and get grilled as a garnish. The staff grill all the meat for you too, so guests really just have to eat.

They also bring out complimentary beef radish soup! A spicy, hot broth that really hits the spot for a hangover.

The tables inside are spacious and the place is clean and tidy. When I arrived there was only one table seated, but by the time I left the whole place was full!

They set us up with heated charcoal too. Pile the meat on! The staff grill everything so kindly, it's so easy on us!!

There's a vent right above the table that sucks up the smoke, so it was comfortable to eat — though it does cast a bit of a shadow on the meat photos, haha, sorry about that.

They slowly and evenly cook the pork neck, pork belly, and premium cuts all together. Once the pork neck is done, they move it onto the heated side burner.

Let's try it the classic way first — dipped in salt. Both the nuruk salt and the Gijang seaweed salt! You get even more umami, and classic salt really is love.

My friend said the pickled chili paste was so good, so I piled it on generously — the spiciness doubled, tripled, quadrupled.

Can you see how golden brown the pork neck and pork belly are cooked? Coating it in nuruk seems to give it that extra umami color.

They grill up the white kimchi, garlic, and garlic scapes and pile them right on top for you. Eating them together gave a real thumbs-up kind of flavor.

Forget the idea that pork neck is dry!

After seeing this visual... I don't think anyone could just walk past it. How about a piece of pork belly with a cold beer-and-soju mix?

Piled high with wasabi, yum yum. With so many different sauces, eating here is just plain fun.

They were grilling rolled egg omelet and asked, "Want me to add spicy pepper?" I said "Yes please!" and they rolled it in — the visual was insane. A cute little egg roll next to a mountain of pork neck and pork belly!

The premium cuts were so chewy and springy, and the pork neck, pork belly, and premium cuts all burst with juice.

Finishing with the food menu — doenjang stew, hot pot rice, cold noodles

Freshwater shrimp doenjang stew topped with bang-a leaves (Korean aromatic herb). It came loaded with zucchini and tofu, so we got a good protein-packed meal too.

We also ordered the hot pot rice, and the smell of the rice was amazing! Savory and clean-tasting hot pot rice. Piling the grilled meat on top, yum yum.

We ordered milmyeon (cold wheat noodles) too, and with the cold broth plus some kelp vinegar and mustard mixed in, the meat just seemed to slide right down. With so many stews and noodle options, Sanseong Sikyukjeom keeps the meal fun right to the very last bite.
