Seomyeon 200-hour aged tonkatsu set before a movie: Katsu Gimseondo
In short
Katsu Gimseondo is a tonkatsu restaurant serving 200-hour aged pork near Jeonpo Café Street in Busanjin, Busan, right beside a fire station. On a weeknight before a movie screening, the loin tonkatsu set at 13,000 won and the tenderloin tonkatsu set at 14,000 won came with salt, wasabi and mustard — the loin crisp and chewy, the tenderloin full of juice. With bar seats and coat hangers, Katsu Gimseondo works just as well for solo dining as for a date.

I was in Seomyeon on a weeknight for a movie screening, and before the screening I wanted to fill up on something clean but filling!

That place was Katsu Gimseondo, known as a tonkatsu spot in Seomyeon! It's located near Jeonpo Café Street so it's easy to get to, and I was super curious after hearing it's made with pork aged for 200 hours haha.
What we ordered at Katsu Gimseondo
Let's start with the visuals first

Let me show you the food first! The loin tonkatsu set and the tenderloin tonkatsu set

I ordered these two, and just the way each tray was neatly set up already looked promising, right?

A café-like exterior next to the Jeonpo fire station
It's near Jeonpo Café Street, right next to a fire station, so it wasn't hard to find. The exterior has a simple, café-like feel but still full of atmosphere,
and the lit-up sign was pretty stylish — my first thought was, wow, that's pretty haha.
Inside Katsu Gimseondo: calm enough for a first date

The inside looks clean right away, doesn't it? The spacing between seats is wide and the vibe is tidy yet cozy — cozy enough that I thought you could even have a blind date here.

There are even coat hangers, so hanging up a coat for your date is instant gentleman points haha. There's also bar seating, great for solo dining,
and when I visited, solo diners kept coming in one after another.
The paper menu at Katsu Gimseondo

There's a menu at every table, and while a lot of places use tablet menus these days, I much prefer the charm of a paper menu haha. By the way, when I went, the gabri loin set was sold out, so I ordered something else instead (I'll be back for it next time lol).
Small details, down to the chopsticks
Even the basic table setting felt thoughtful. The chopsticks were hygienically wrapped, and the tissue and chopstick sleeves had the restaurant's name printed on them — you could tell they cared about the details.

The water was good too — not just plain water but something with a barley-tea feel, and I personally really love that kind of detail haha.
The two tonkatsu sets we ordered that evening
- ✔️ Loin tonkatsu set ₩13,000
- ✔️ Tenderloin tonkatsu set ₩14,000
- ✔️ Zero cola ₩2,000

I ordered just one cola, but they gave us two cups of ice 💛 — small, but I felt it was really thoughtful.

Cabbage shredded as fine as snow
The sets come out neatly plated one tray at a time, and the cabbage is shredded so finely it looks like snow-flake shaved ice. Drizzling on the dressing doubles the freshness.

For the tonkatsu sauce, besides the basic sauce, salt, wasabi and mustard were all set up so you could enjoy it however you liked. Mixing wasabi into the sauce and dipping in was good, and salt or mustard on the side was also delicious, but personally dipping in salt felt cleanest and best haha.
Loin tonkatsu: crisp outside, chewy inside
The loin tonkatsu set had an impressively crispy yet chewy texture.
For someone like me who loves a meaty bite, this was exactly my type! To each their own haha.

The best part was eating it with the fatty end piece,

and it was clean and had zero greasiness, just wonderfully light 💛
Tenderloin tonkatsu that bursts with juice

The tenderloin tonkatsu set was really tender. Not a single tough spot — it melted in your mouth!

Sometimes they cut it in half for you and sometimes it comes whole,

and the whole tenderloin tonkatsu I got had juice pouring out the moment I bit into it — I was amazed at how moist and soft it was 😍
Is Katsu Gimseondo worth it for taste, quality and cleanliness?

The place is run by an owner who looks much younger than me, and the restaurant is clean and hygienic while the food's taste and quality are top-notch — I found myself grateful and impressed.
Who should visit Katsu Gimseondo?
- Anyone in Seomyeon looking for a place to eat before a movie
- Anyone who wants to fill up before heading to Jeonpo Café Street
- Anyone in Busan craving clean, high-quality tonkatsu
I definitely recommend Katsu Gimseondo!
