Yeonje fried chicken and spicy stew combo: Yetnal Tongdak & Tang

In short

Yetnal Tongdak & Tang Yeonsan Main Branch is a late-night chicken and dakdoritang restaurant in Yeonje, Busan. I had the ₩33,000 Sunsal & Tang with crisp boneless fried chicken and savory-spicy stew—an excellent pick when you refuse to choose between chicken and soup!

We were wondering what to eat in Yeonsan-dong, then headed straaaight to Yetnal Tongdak & Tang Yeonsan Main Branch, one of those places I keep going back to because they serve both dakdoritang (spicy braised chicken stew) and fried chicken~! You know those days when chicken alone feels a tiny bit lacking, and you want a hot, spicy stew too...

An old-school whole-chicken-shop atmosphere in a Yeonsan-dong alley

Walk through the Yeonsan-dong alleys and you can spot Yetnal Tongdak & Tang Yeonsan Main Branch~ The sign alone has that truly local-favorite vibe, right? Trendy chicken places are great too, but am I the only one who gets extra excited when I see somewhere with this old-school feel???

Once inside, the walls and pillars were packed with doodles and signatures, giving it that unmistakable Yeonsan-dong bar feeling of longtime regulars returning again and again. Places like this also tend to have a high chance of being a great Busan whole-fried-chicken spot, you know.

Sunsal & Tang: fried chicken and dakdoritang together

The menu had more variety than I expected, from chicken dishes to dakdoritang! There were old-style whole fried chicken, boneless fried chicken, half-and-half fried chicken, and set menus such as dakdoritang and whole chicken with stew, so it looked perfect for coming with a group and having drinks. I wanted chicken but absolutely could not give up dakdoritang, so I ordered Sunsal & Tang~ If you want Yeonsan-dong chicken with dakdoritang on the side too, this combo is a go!

I also properly grabbed a self-serve apron~

The basic sides came out nice and simple, just as a chicken place should! Crunchy pickled radish, crisp tiny shrimp crackers, and cabbage salad. The cabbage had plenty of dressing on it, so taking a bite now and then while eating the chicken was great for cutting the richness.

Chamisul for today~

Spicy dakdoritang and crisp boneless fried chicken

The dakdoritang came out first!! The red broth was loaded with chicken, rice cakes, glass noodles, and quail eggs, so my appetite properly exploded the moment it arrived~ Just looking at the broth, it seemed spicy and deeply flavorful—perfect with drinks, right~? Let it bubble away!

While it was simmering, the boneless fried chicken appeared!! Its craggy coating looked crisp just from looking at it—it looked soooo good,,, I actually came back because I fell for this chicken, you know.

The two together were a whole feast~ The chicken also came with salt and seasoned sauce, so you could dip it however you liked haha.

Chicken served with salt and seasoned sauce

While the dakdoritang simmered, my friend had a bite dipped in salt and I had mine in the seasoned sauce—seriously, ridiculously delicious. The sauce was not too heavy either, so even a generous dip did not feel overwhelming haha. No secret that we got a sauce refill lol.

Next, I tried a spoonful of dakdoritang broth~ Its deep color had me excited right away, and it really was savory-spicy with a burst of umami—so good. It was not just aggressively hot; the flavor of the chicken and vegetables had soaked into the broth so well that I kept scooping it up. I even neatly cut up the rice cakes.

I gave each ingredient a proper try too lol. The glass noodles had soaked up all that seasoned broth and were deliciously moist, while the chicken was more deeply flavored than expected because the seasoning had penetrated all the way through. There were quail eggs too, which made it fun to pick one up here and there!! Especially the glass noodles + chicken + broth combination was the real deal!!

Final thoughts on the chicken-and-stew pairing

My final take: if you want to try the chicken-and-dakdoritang combo, I definitely recommend a visit!! The Sunsal & Tang I had paired crisp boneless fried chicken with hot, rich dakdoritang, and the combination was amazing from the start. Dipping the chicken in seasoned sauce kept it from getting boring, while the stew was generously filled with glass noodles, chicken, and quail eggs—truly great with drinks! Above all, the old local-favorite atmosphere made the meal even more fun. If you are looking for Yeonsan-dong chicken, a Busan whole-fried-chicken spot, or dakdoritang at a Yeonsan-dong bar, Yetnal Tongdak & Tang Yeonsan Main Branch is well worth trying!!
