Seongsu café for butter caramel-dipped bite-size desserts: Bocado Butter

Every time I go to Seongsu-dong, I end up looking for a new café or dessert spot! There are so many pretty little alleys, pop-ups, and select shops, so it is such fun to grab a dessert break while wandering around on a Seongsu date. This time, I wanted something a bit different from the usual cake or bakery treats, so I visited Bocado Butter Seongsu Main Store.

This place sells a dessert with the unusual name “Bocado.” Bocado means “a bite” in Spanish, apparently. True to its name, it is a crisp dessert in an easy one-bite size, so it was great for a quick snack while exploring Seongsu-dong or for taking home.

What I tried that day was the 8-piece Bocado and coffee set for ₩10,000, plus an iced tea for ₩5,000! Let’s get into my Bocado Butter review!!

Bocado Butter Seongsu Main Store: the basics

Bocado Butter Seongsu Main Store is about a three-minute walk from exits 3 and 4 of Seongsu Station, so it is really easy to reach. There are so many cafés, restaurants, and pop-up shops around Seongsu Station that it is well placed for dessert after looking around a Seongsu pop-up or having a coffee. There is no dedicated parking, so if you drive, a nearby public parking lot would be best. I came by public transport, and it felt like no time at all while I wandered through the Seongsu alleys.

A cute exterior with sunny yellow details

The yellow accents caught my eye as soon as I arrived. The exterior had such a charming, tiny feel that suited Seongsu-dong’s atmospheric cafés perfectly. There were chairs outside for a quick seat, too. Best of all, I could watch the Bocados being made out front; the nutty aroma was drifting over and making me hungry before I even went in.

Small, but comfortable seating inside

The shop itself is on the small side, but there is seating further inside, so you can enjoy dessert and coffee in the café. Each table has an outlet as well, which looked handy for taking a little break.

When you are café-hopping and looking at desserts in Seongsu-dong, it can sometimes be hard to find somewhere to sit. This one had a nice atmosphere for dropping in, having dessert and coffee, and resting for a moment.

One thing I found interesting was the separate washbasin inside the shop! Since Bocados are the kind of dessert you pick up with your hands, it was thoughtfully set up so you could wash them before eating. The tiled area was pretty too, and everything was kept very clean.

We ordered the 8-piece Bocado and coffee set for ₩10,000 that day. I also added an iced tea for ₩5,000. It was a nice, simple set when you want dessert and a cup of coffee together in Seongsu.

Crisp Bocados with rich butter cream

The Bocados were an easy one-bite size, so they looked cute on the plate and were easy to pick up one by one. The outside was crisp first, followed by the nutty, rich flavor of soft butter cream inside. They were tiny, but the butter flavor was quite full with one bite, so I thought they paired really well with coffee.

That contrast between the crisp exterior and soft cream made them more fun than simply eating soft bread. I meant to stop after one or two, but I kept picking them up one after another, haha.

What about with butter caramel dipping sauce?

This time, I also tried the Bocados with butter caramel dipping sauce, and dipping them was seriously delicious. On their own, the crisp, nutty flavor is the focus; with a little butter caramel, a sweeter note comes through and makes them feel even more like dessert. Dipping a crisp Bocado lightly in the sauce and eating it in one bite brought out both nutty and sweet flavors, and I personally loved that combination.

Bocado Butter also has different dipping creams, including coconut, butter caramel, coffee, and cacao, so it would be nice to choose according to your taste. If you love coconut especially, trying them with a coconut item such as coconut ice cream or a coconut latte sounds good too!!

I also had the Americano that came with the 8-piece Bocado set. Since the dessert has butter cream in it, it was a really good match with coffee.

After the nutty sweetness of a Bocado, a sip of Americano felt like it cleared the palate nicely. When you have been shopping or visiting several pop-ups in Seongsu-dong, you know how a sweet dessert and coffee can suddenly sound so tempting. I thought this was an easy, not-too-heavy Seongsu dessert for exactly then. I also liked that they sell coffee, so there is no need to move on and look for another café.

My husband has a childlike palate, haha, so we ordered an iced tea for ₩5,000 as well as coffee that day. The iced tea was nice and cold, making it good to alternate with sweet dessert. A butter-forward dessert like Bocado makes a nutty pairing with coffee, while iced tea makes it feel a little fresher!

So if two people visit, I think it would be nice for one person to get coffee and the other iced tea, then share the Bocados.

Between Seongsu’s alleys and Seoul Forest: a great takeout bite

There are so many cafés in Seongsu-dong, but Bocado Butter is worth a visit because its menu is not something you see everywhere. If you are walking through the alleys on a Seongsu date and want a quick dessert, Bocados seem especially fitting: they are not an overwhelming size and are easy to eat one bite at a time.

There is also something fun about tasting freshly made Bocados while taking in that nutty aroma out front.

They looked good to take home, or to bring over to Seoul Forest as a picnic snack. The packaging is small and cute, so anyone looking for a dessert gift in Seongsu should have a look too.
