Seongsu café with two interiors and room to relax: Biat Seongsu

In short

Biat Seongsu is a two-floor café in Seongdong, Seoul, a 5–7 minute walk from Seongsu Station. I had a fig Greek croffle, watermelon juice, and an Americano while choosing between its moody and bright casual seating areas. Verdict: a lovely choice for an unhurried break in Seongsu.

Today, I’d like to introduce Biat Seongsu (비아트 성수), a café I visited while looking for a spot in Seongsu. There are so many cafés in Seongsu, but personally, I prefer places with plenty of room to spend time comfortably over tiny cafés packed wall-to-wall with people. In that sense, I really liked Biat Seongsu! If atmosphere matters just as much as dessert when you are looking for a Seongsu café, this is a place worth visiting.

A spacious Seongsu café tucked away on the second floor

Biat Seongsu is located on the second floor of the building. Once I went up and entered, I liked that the space was much larger than I had expected. So many Seongsu cafés are pretty these days, but some are small or have very little space between seats, you know? Since I tend to prefer cafés with a bit of breathing room like this rather than tiny ones, I had a good first impression right away. I think it would also suit anyone looking for a comfortable place to talk with a friend for a long time or take a quick break after wandering around Seongsu.

One space, two completely different moods!

What I found most fun about Biat Seongsu was the interior. The atmosphere is clearly divided around the counter: one side uses lighting and decorative objects for a more atmospheric, calm mood, while the other side is much brighter and more casual. It was distinctive how different the café could feel depending on which side you sat on, even though it is all one café. If you want to take photos or prefer a quieter mood, choose the atmospheric area; if you want to chat in a bright, relaxed setting, the other side would be great. Personally, I found this kind of variation in the interior really fun.

Seongsu café dessert: figs were today’s pick

That day, I ordered a fig Greek croffle, watermelon juice, and an Americano—just like that. When I go looking for Seongsu café desserts, there are plenty of items focused on presentation, but I tend to order seasonal-fruit desserts whenever I see them. And during fig season, it is especially hard to pass one by, haha.

The sweet fig Greek croffle and clean-tasting Americano were, as expected, a great pairing, and the cold watermelon juice made it feel even lighter. It felt like a café where you could take your time with dessert rather than just drink coffee and leave.

If you are looking for a spacious café in Seongsu

There are so many pretty cafés in Seongsu, but on busy weekends, even finding a seat can be difficult. That is why, when choosing a café, I look at not only the interior but also the size of the space and how comfortable it is. What stayed with me most about Biat Seongsu was its spacious use of the entire second floor and the chance to enjoy two different interior moods in one place.

For anyone looking for Seongsu café desserts who would rather relax over coffee and dessert in a spacious place than visit somewhere that is simply famous and crowded, this is somewhere I would recommend. If you are looking for a café to take a little break while exploring Seongsu, give Biat Seongsu a visit too :)
