Namhansanseong bakery café open late with mont blanc and matcha: Sum

In short

Sum is a large bakery café in Namhansanseong-myeon, Gwangju, Gyeonggi, spread across a main building and an annex. On a weekend evening Sum served a mont blanc for 7,000 won, chocolate chip bread for 3,800 won, a Jeju matcha latte for 7,500 won and a café latte for 7,000 won, with seating on the main building's second floor, the annex's birch-lined second floor and the rooftops. Bread is nearly sold out that late, but cookies are still plentiful and you can pick the mood you want.

Where is Sum near Namhansanseong, and how late is it open?

Sum is located at 108-11 Ojeon-gil, Namhansanseong-myeon, Gwangju-si, Gyeonggi-do (217 Ojeon-ri). It's open Monday to Friday from 10 a.m. to 8:30 p.m., and Saturday to Sunday from 10 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.

Today I want to introduce a big, gorgeous café hidden deep inside Namhansanseong called Sum. There's a sign out front, but it's easy to miss unless you're actually looking for it — so let me introduce this very pretty, hard-to-find café haha.

Main building or annex: choosing your seat at Sum

Sum is split into a main building and an annex. The main building has high ceilings across its two floors, and the floor-to-ceiling windows let you take in a whole view of green nature — it felt spacious and wide open. The annex is also two floors: the first floor has a big screen where you can enjoy music, and the second floor has a birch-tree landscaping interior that feels heavily autumn-themed haha.

Inside the main building's first floor

The space is huge and comfortable, and with all that green visible through the windows I considered sitting outside — but it was too hot, so I settled for just admiring the view lol.

Why the bread is almost gone on a weekend evening

I visited around weekend evening, and since it was a bit late, unfortunately not much bread was left ㅠㅠ If you're coming on weekends for bread, come early lol.

But there were plenty of cookies, so if you love cookies, you can come late without worry and still eat well haha.

Since it's such a big café, there's even a directory sign lol.

First-floor terrace and the main building's floor-to-ceiling windows

Sum's main building first floor connects to an outdoor terrace seating area.

If the weather had just been nicer, sitting outside with the smell of grass and birdsong while sipping tea would've been pure healing! So I decided to come back again in autumn lol.

Mountains and trees as seen from Sum's main building second floor
Wide view of Sum's spacious main building second floor hall

This is the main building's second floor. The ceilings are so high that even from far seats you don't see the ceiling — just an unobstructed outdoor view — so it was perfect for zoning out while staring at the green mountains and trees.

The birch-lined second floor of the annex

The annex's second floor has a birch-tree interior, so even in summer it feels like autumn. With the quiet music drifting up from the first floor, there was a calm, relaxed drowsiness to the place. (It seemed perfect for sipping tea while reading a book.)

Mountain views from the main building and annex rooftops

At Sum, you can climb up to a rooftop from both the main building and the annex.

The mountain view from the café itself and the view from higher up on the rooftop feel completely different.

Mont blanc 7,000 won and chocolate chip bread 3,800 won

Mont blanc and chocolate chip bread order at Sum

I picked the mont blanc for ₩7,000 and the chocolate chip bread for ₩3,800.

Sum's mont blanc topped with chocolate mousse and chocolate chips

Oh my god!! Seriously!!! Get two of these, trust me!!!! I went back down to buy another one and it was gone... ugh!!!! The soft chocolate mousse has such a rich chocolate flavor, and the crunchy chocolate chips are so satisfying to bite into!!

Honestly, this bread... I wasn't drawn to it, but it got chosen by majority vote anyway (I thought the inside would be pretty hollow, but it was half to the full).

The inside was fuller than I expected, and so soft and moist — I ended up eating more of it than anyone else lol.

Fittingly for the name Sum (숨, "breath"), the bread itself has life breathed into it ♡

Sum's Jeju matcha latte and café latte

Jeju matcha latte 7,500 won and café latte 7,000 won

Our beloved café latte.

Jeju matcha latte, ₩7,500 — clean with no chalky aftertaste, and the milk-to-matcha ratio was just right.

Café latte, ₩7,000 — the nutty milk and rich coffee balanced so well that it was tasty even without an extra shot, no wateriness at all!

Parking at Sum and the final verdict

Additional parking area and the approach to Sum below

There's parking space right in front of the café plus more parking below, so I could park with plenty of room ^^

Today I introduced Sum, a hidden gem tucked deep inside Namhansanseong — a serene, large café where sipping coffee and eating bread while gazing at the outdoor mountain view was such a treat for both mouth and eyes. Sum, near Namhansanseong, fed me well through both taste and sight — I'd recommend coming to quietly gaze at the mountains over tea and bread.
