Unjeong bakery whole wheat loaf and 3+1 salt bread: Boulangerie Tan

In short

Boulangerie Tan Unjeong Main Branch is a takeout-only natural leaven bakery on the 1st floor of Farm Tower in Unjeong, Paju. A buy-3-get-1-free salt bread deal was running, so three gourmet butter salt breads and one whole wheat loaf were picked up by car to eat at home, and both the crisp-outside, soft-inside salt bread and the mild whole wheat loaf were satisfying. Boulangerie Tan is not a sit-down café, but it is an easy stop when you just want fresh bread to take home fast.

Boulangerie Tan Unjeong Main Branch: a takeout bakery on the 1st floor of Farm Tower

Boulangerie Tan Unjeong Main Branch is a mostly takeout bakery on the 1st floor of Farm Tower on Chorongkkot-ro in Unjeong, Paju. This time I wasn't going for anything specific — I just needed bread, so I headed straight to Boulangerie Tan Unjeong Main Branch for a pickup haha.

Since it's on the 1st floor of Farm Tower, it wasn't hard to find, and I drove there so being able to use the underground parking was convenient. But note that you need to park in the Farm Tower underground lot specifically — it's a different building from Farm Smart, which can be confusing, so keep that in mind haha. It was easy to park, grab the bread quickly, and head out.

Boulangerie Tan Unjeong Main Branch isn't really a sit-down café type of place — it's mostly for takeout, which made it perfect for someone like me who just came to buy bread.

When you search for good Paju Unjeong bakeries, there are quite a few places with a wide variety of breads, but I decided on Boulangerie Tan since I just needed something simple to eat that day. Once inside, I browsed the bread and there was more variety than I expected, so I paused for a moment haha.

There were sandwiches, plus staples like baguettes and salt bread. The salt bread section especially caught my eye. When I visited, they were running a buy-3-get-1-free salt bread promotion, and there was no way I was passing that up haha. I picked out 3 salt breads and grabbed a whole wheat loaf too. I originally only planned to buy one type of bread, but a promotion like that changes plans, doesn't it haha.

Three salt breads and a whole wheat loaf packed for pickup

In the end I walked out with a solid haul of salt bread and whole wheat bread.

What is the gourmet butter salt bread like?

Boulangerie Tan gourmet butter salt bread

What I bought was Boulangerie Tan's gourmet butter salt bread. It's crisp on the outside and soft on the inside, and honestly, salt bread is hard to resist when it's warm or fresh out of the oven haha. It had a salty note along with a noticeable buttery flavor — really tasty. If you like salt bread, it's worth picking one up.

Besides the plain version, they also sell some slightly unusual salt breads — pollock roe potato salt bread, chewy rice cake salt bread, honey garlic salt bread, and more. I went with the plain one this time, but next time I want to try the others one by one haha.

The whole wheat loaf picked up alongside it

I also needed a loaf of bread, so I grabbed Boulangerie Tan's whole wheat loaf along with everything else. I tried it at home and it was plain and not heavy at all, which I liked. I meant to save it and eat simply at home, but the salt bread disappeared fast once I started picking at it haha. Bread really is best eaten right after you buy it.

If you're looking for a good Paju Unjeong bakery for a meal replacement or a loaf to bring home, this place is worth checking out. It felt more like a spot to grab a few specific breads to go rather than to load up on a ton of bread.

Breads made with natural leaven fermentation

Boulangerie Tan reportedly uses its own cultivated natural leaven and low-temperature fermentation for over 14 hours. According to the store's description, they use organic flour and French flour, and don't use artificial additives like measuring agents, emulsifiers, preservatives, or coloring.

Even though it takes more time, they stick to this traditional natural fermentation method, which is their signature. Maybe that's why the bread had such a clean, plain taste that let the ingredients themselves shine. They have everything from basic breads to some more special items, so next time I'd like to take my time and browse more slowly.

Looking for brunch in Dongpae-dong, Paju?

Boulangerie Tan Unjeong Main Branch is takeout only, so it's not really a place to sit and linger over brunch. If you're looking for Dongpae-dong brunch spots, keep that in mind before visiting. That said, it's great for taking food to go and eating at home or elsewhere.

They also have a variety of sandwiches — carrot rapée chicken, jambon beurre, jambon fromage — all solid brunch options. This time my goal was just the bread pickup, so I saved the sandwiches for next time haha. Next time I plan to go for the Dongpae-dong brunch vibe and pack up some sandwiches too. Bread and sandwiches together would make a solid quick meal.

Worth noting for a Paju Unjeong café date course

Picking up the bread by car at Farm Tower

Boulangerie Tan isn't the type of café where you sit and linger over coffee, but if you're into bread and in the Unjeong area of Paju, it could work well paired with a nearby café visit. If you and a friend both love bread, it'd be nice to plan a Paju Unjeong café date course around nearby cafés and swing by Boulangerie Tan in between to pick up bread. Or just do what I did — buy bread and take it straight home haha.

If you're planning a Paju Unjeong café date and want to grab some good bread along the way, this place is worth a stop. Next time I'd like to visit with a bit more time to spare and try the sandwiches and other breads too.

Overall verdict on Boulangerie Tan Unjeong Main Branch

This time my goal was really just a quick pickup, so I only bought 3 salt breads and one whole wheat loaf, but eating them at home, everything was tasty overall and I was satisfied. The buy-3-get-1-free salt bread deal made the purchase feel even better haha. Parking was available and it was easy to grab and go, which worked well for someone like me just buying bread to eat at home.

Next time, I'm curious about the pollock roe potato salt bread and the chewy rice cake salt bread instead of the plain one, so I plan to try them one at a time. If you're looking for a good Paju Unjeong bakery, want Dongpae-dong brunch food to take out, or want to grab bread while on a Paju Unjeong café date, this place is worth checking out :) I'll probably be back for another bread pickup haha.
