While looking for a good meat restaurant near Dongdaegu Station, I ended up visiting Modak Texas Barbecue Dongdaegu Branch.

I usually enjoy regular Korean barbecue places too, but sometimes I crave something a bit different — and this place lets you enjoy a variety of Texas-style barbecue, so I was curious.
What Modak Texas Barbecue Dongdaegu Branch is like inside
Modak Texas Barbecue Dongdaegu Branch is easy to get to from Dongdaegu Station, and the atmosphere is a bit different from a typical Korean meat restaurant, which had me excited even before walking in.

This time I visited during lunch and ordered mostly from the lunch special menu.

Walking inside, it felt like an American-style barbecue restaurant with a warm wood-toned atmosphere.
The tables weren't cramped, and there were larger tables for groups too, so it seemed comfortable whether you're coming solo or with a group.
Even though we arrived during early lunch hours, there was a couple who looked to be in their 60s, as well as someone dining alone.

While we ate, more customers came in — a couple where the guy was on military leave, coworkers grabbing lunch together...
Which lunch specials we ordered at Modak Texas Barbecue
At Modak Texas Barbecue Dongdaegu Branch, we wanted to try a variety of barbecue, so we ordered quite a lot.

- Lunch special spare rib set
- Lunch special whole pork belly bacon set
- Lunch special pulled pork set
- Shrimp squid ink pasta
- And later we added some beer and drinks too..

As the dishes started arriving one by one, it was way more filling than I expected. Instead of ordering just one thing, ordering several menu items to share meant we could taste multiple kinds of meat at once, which was great.

Oh, and once you sit down and order, they bring you nachos and sauce, and it's genuinely delicious!!
Spare rib set: tender and juicy
You can't talk Texas barbecue without ribs. We started with the lunch special spare rib set.
The thick cut of meat looked delicious, and it turned out to be more tender and juicy than expected. There was a subtle smoky barbecue aroma, and eating it with the sauce added a sweet-savory kick that made it even better. Personally, I prefer this kind of subtle smokiness over an overpowering one, so it was easy to eat without feeling overwhelmed.
Tasting the meat on its own first, then adding sauce, gave a completely different flavor each time.

It was so tender that the meat cleanly separated from the bone..
Whole pork belly bacon set, the other standout
Next up: the whole pork belly bacon set.

At barbecue places you usually think of ribs or beef first, so it was nice to also get to enjoy whole pork belly.
The savory flavor unique to thick pork belly combined with the barbecue's signature smoky character gave a totally different feel from the pork belly we usually grill at home.

The outside was cooked to a delicious finish while the inside stayed tender, and it worked well whether eaten plain or with the side dishes.
If you love meat, this is a dish you can't skip. So for anyone looking for a Dongdaegu Station meat restaurant that's a bit different from the usual pork belly joints, this would be a good pick.
Pulled pork that shreds apart along the grain
And then the one I was most curious about — pulled pork. Pulled pork is known for its texture that pulls apart tender along the grain, and eating it for real, it had a distinct charm compared to the spare ribs or whole pork belly.

Adding sauce to the softly pulled meat brought out even more flavor, and it paired well with the other side dishes too.
If you're visiting with a group, I'd recommend ordering different meats like this to share.

The spare ribs, the whole pork belly, and the pulled pork each had their own distinct texture and flavor, which made trying them one by one really fun.
How was the shrimp squid ink pasta?
It felt a bit lacking to order only meat dishes, so we also got the shrimp squid ink pasta.

Thanks to the squid ink pasta's deep color, it photographed beautifully, and the shrimp scattered throughout made it a nice pairing between bites of meat. I assumed squid ink pasta would just be regular cream pasta with black coloring, but the cream had a savory, deep flavor I'd never tasted before — a creaminess all its own. It was such a standout dish that I kept eating even when I was already full..

Also, when you're eating barbecue non-stop, the flavors tend to stay meat-focused, but ordering a pasta alongside it made the whole meal feel much more varied. If you're visiting with a group, I'd especially recommend ordering pasta together with the meat dishes to share. Anyone looking for pasta near Dongdaegu Station might want to keep this in mind as something to enjoy alongside barbecue.
Is Modak Texas Barbecue worth it for lunch near Dongdaegu Station?
This time I visited during lunch and used the lunch special menu, and it was satisfying to be able to try so many different meats. If you're looking for somewhere to eat near Dongdaegu Station during lunch, this kind of menu lineup is a good option. The side sauces and accompaniments are also delicious wrapped in tortillas or dinner rolls, so I really hope you get to try it for yourself.

Regular meals are great, but sometimes it's nice to slow down and enjoy a proper barbecue meal like this. You don't even have to order meat — spaghetti or rice options are available too, so it's worth a visit for lunch.
Good for group meals and work dinners near Dongdaegu Station
We also ordered beer to go with the meat, which added a nice atmosphere to the meal.

Trying out several menu items directly made me think this would work well as a gathering spot too. You can order and share different types of meat like spare ribs, whole pork belly, and pulled pork, plus pasta, so there's a wide range of choices.

Most of all, since nothing is grilled at the table, it's easy to keep chatting while you eat. So I'm confident this would be great for friend get-togethers, work dinners, or family meals near Dongdaegu Station.
