Wangsimni family Korean BBQ on a Saturday: gabrisal add-on, Pujutgan
In short
Pujutgan Saenggogi-jeom is a cauldron-lid Korean BBQ restaurant in Haengdang-dong, Seongdong, Seoul, a five-minute walk from Exit 10 of Wangsimni Station and right by Haengdang Market. On a Saturday afternoon family outing, the writer ordered two servings each of pork belly and pork jowl at 20,000 won per serving, then added gabrisal (pork collar strip) and more jowl, with staff grilling the meat and kimchi on the cauldron lid. Kimchi stew, soybean stew, bibim naengmyeon, janchi-guksu and nurungji all come as free unlimited refills, and the writer's father took a business card home so he could bring his friends back to Pujutgan Saenggogi-jeom.

Looking for somewhere to eat dinner around Wangsimni, I ended up at Pujutgan Saenggogi-jeom again. The conclusion: I was so, so satisfied that my father took a business card home to bring his friends back!!!! A friend of mine had already been and said the pork belly and pork jowl were amazing, so I went in with high expectations — and left completely satisfied!

I visited Pujutgan Saenggogi-jeom around 2pm on a Saturday. It was already nearly full, and what stood out was how many older folks were there alongside all the family groups — and isn't a place packed with older regulars basically a guaranteed sign of a good local restaurant?

Staff grill on a cauldron lid, and the after-meal dishes refill free
The first thing that caught my eye at Pujutgan Saenggogi-jeom was the huge cauldron-lid grill! If you're after cauldron-lid pork belly near Wangsimni, this is the kind of setup you get, with plenty of table space to spread out. And the staff grill everything for you! If you're looking for a pork belly place near Wangsimni where they grill it for you, I'd recommend Pujutgan Saenggogi-jeom to every single person I know, haha.
When you order meat matching your headcount at Pujutgan Saenggogi-jeom, you get unlimited free refills of soybean stew, kimchi stew, bibim naengmyeon, mul naengmyeon, and nurungji! As you can see in the photos below, being free and unlimited doesn't mean skimpy!!!!!!!!!!!

There's beef and pork on the menu, but we came for pork belly and pork jowl! We ordered two servings each of pork belly and jowl first, then added more later. Because it was that good!!!!!!!!!!! And the pork was handon (Korean-raised pork)! It really was noticeably delicious.
How did the pork belly and pork jowl taste?
The pork belly at Pujutgan Saenggogi-jeom had just the right balance of fat and lean meat, so you could really taste the savoriness particular to handon, and the pork jowl — what else can I say, it was number one. Chewy, and the more you chewed, the more savory it got.

On the huge cauldron lid, the meat goes on alongside onion, potato, garlic, mushrooms and kimchi!!!! Search for pork belly in Haengdang-dong and there are so many restaurants,. But one that does handon pork piled onto a cauldron lid with kimchi that's this good? I don't think there's another one like Pujutgan Saenggogi-jeom.
On top of that, unlimited refills of stew, naengmyeon, and nurungji. They have fresh pork belly, pork neck, pork jowl, skirt meat, and hanger meat, all handon — we ordered pork belly and jowl first, then added skirt meat and more jowl later. The pork was thick-cut and generously portioned, and even though I felt like I was going to burst, it was so good I kept ordering more. Honestly, being able to try so many specialty cuts at a pork belly restaurant was a nice bonus!

Korean Handon pork and house-made kimchi on the cauldron lid
Ah,. Just looking at it, you know it's good. Any Korean will tell you: you can judge whether a place is legit just from the color of the kimchi. And this place is definitely legit, haha.
What stuck with me about Pujutgan Saenggogi-jeom was that it doesn't end when the meat's gone. Order meat matching your headcount, and you get unlimited naengmyeon, stew, noodle soup, and nurungji for dessert.

I think we tried pretty much everything Pujutgan Saenggogi-jeom offers that day. Pork belly, pork jowl, skirt meat, plus kimchi stew, soybean stew, bibim naengmyeon, and nurungji. We'd already eaten so much meat, but the soybean stew and kimchi stew were so good the rice bowls kept disappearing too.
Oh right! The bibim naengmyeon!!!!!!!!!! It's made with a house special sauce. Wait, unlimited free-refill naengmyeon made with a house-made special sauce?,. I'd be grateful even if they used store-bought sauce, but this bibim naengmyeon made with their own sauce was good enough to sell on its own. Especially look at the visuals below. The soybean stew and kimchi stew are provided free. Can a free stew really be this generous?

Big chunks of tofu, tons of vegetables. Beef in the soybean stew, handon pork in the kimchi stew. There was no way it could taste bad. These were genuinely the kind of delicious stews you'd make at home. This place is truly, truly good.
Adding gabrisal and a second round of pork jowl
If you're looking for a good meat restaurant near Haengdang Market, I'd recommend Pujutgan Saenggogi-jeom without hesitation, because it's genuinely delicious. I'm normally someone who can't eat much pork like pork belly, but Wangsimni's Pujutgan Saenggogi-jeom was so good, especially the pork jowl, that I added even more jowl and skirt meat. And once again, they grilled it all for us. All my hands had to do was eat, haha.

All the pork — pork belly, pork neck, and more — is priced at ₩20,000 per serving. But with naengmyeon, stew, janchi-guksu and nurungji all provided free and unlimited, it's actually much better value than other pork belly places near Wangsimni!!!!!
